Returned last weekend after our second visit to Cocobay. We requested the same room and we were overjoyed when our request had been honoured. I cannot understand why anyone would complain about this place, if you do your research you will find that it is not for people who want to boogy the night away and have raves every night. This is for people who want to chill, read books, relax and do nothing but appreciate the island for what it is - beautiful. Hire a jeep and get out for 3 days or so - but please be careful of the antiguan roads they are dire!

We thought we were unique going back but we are known as "repeaters"!! Met several couples who were such, and a couple who had been 7 times since it was opened in 2000 who were horrified to discover that a couple there were on their 8th visit! You even get a very nice bottle of rum when you leave as a thankyou!!!

We only came away with a couple of gripes - it was all very peaceful until the Italians moved in in a great number and unfortunately they occupied all the cottages around where we were and every time they walked passed they made a racket to wake the dead and this was sometimes at 1.30 in the morning. Should have complained but didn't. Even in the day time they were fairly appauling around the pool and in the restaurant with a ring leader! All very annoying but it did not ruin our holiday. The bugs are a nuisance but some people suffer more than others it seems.

The birds in the restaurant seem to have flown the nest apart from one or two of the Grackles. We asked where they had gone to and they said we now have two cats! don't believe that one for a minute!!!!! The cats are really nice and you cannot help feed them. They are very well behaved. Apparently if someone is allergic they will remove them until the guests have gone. I expect they are far more tollerated that the birds were as they got onto the tables and were extremely annoying to many.

Still no chairs in the rooms! Despite our gripe on the suggestions sheet! We ended up sitting on the floor as its too risky to sit on the balcony of an evening as the bugs come out very early!!! Chairs would be brilliant cocobay are you listening - the more people that suggest this the better as we intend to return in a couple of years or so and if there are still no chairs I shall bring my own!!! Little touches like these go a long long way!!!!!!

I am making this sound like a gripe session but it is not intended to be.

The best thing about this place is NO SCREEMING CHILDREN! You do not want them on a holiday disturbing the peace and quiet or noisy Italians for that matter.

We will return that is no doubt.......

The Coco Bay was cool, very relaxing. The swimming pool is stunning, and the little cabana-style rooms are great. Our personal plunge pool was ice cold but good fun nonetheless.
The only downside was the lack of food options for an all-inclusive resort - basically you have to chow down all you can at the set mealtimes, and then there's nothing to eat until the next one.
It's a very romantic spot so maybe you can find other things to do to take your mind off food!

Just back from our third trip to Cocobay. It is still the best place on earth - we fall back in love with the hotel, location and island every time we go. It never fails to impress. Amazing number of repeat guests even in the 12 days we were there we recognised at least 5 couples we had seen the year before!
The huts are idyllic, location can not be topped and the food and drink amazing especially for the price and rating.
The staff are superb friendly and eager to please and help. David the barman is the best on the island by a long way - don't expect a 'small' one!
All those who complain should read the details before booking - its a rustic natural and relaxed piece of heaven, its got character and style. It is not a commercial faceless resort with all the mod cons. That's not why we go - if you want that book somewhere else on the island.
If you want a peaceful, fun, relaxing and uncommercial holiday in the best location in antigua then book Cocobay NOW!
Top tips - use high deet when on the beach, take a trip on the wadadli's catamarans, go out round the island with JJ/Eddie the hotel taxi guys and have your camera ready for the sunsets....watch out for the 'green flash' (!) but otherwise chill out, read books, make the most of the bar the location and the peace.

Just got back from our second visit to Cocobay and found the Hotel to still be the same. We were not the only ones because we found friends who were there with us last year. The number of people who return is amazing.

As mentioned in another review we also found some of the other quests were rude and ill mannered to the staff. But this didn't stop us from enjoying our visit. Thank you goes a long way!

The Hotel is in a beautiful and stunning location, probably the best location in Antigua.

This Hotel is not for the burger and chips monsters, but is for people who want and appreciate high quality food not quantity.

This Hotel is for people who enjoy good food, good company and a peaceful and tranquil location. If you want daily & nightly entertainment, this is the wrong resort.

We recommend the Nature trail walks, which the hotel organise 3 times a week. Vorn, who does the walks, is an extremely knowledgeable and entertaining person.

Yes, there are some bugs, but take precautions like you would for anywhere with the same weather. We never saw any rats in the grounds or cockroachs in our cabins. You will hear the tree frogs and crickets at night, but you will get that anywhere in the Caribean.

We recommend going out and about to see the island.

Special mentions for the following members of staff at Cocobay – David, Kerry, Kenroy, Cheryl, Phyliss, Jemeria and Ethenal.

We will go back again!

Antigua is amazingly beautiful. Shockingly, really. Cocobay Resort is an attractive, rustic resort perched on a cliff above the ocean. After reading the disparaging reviews of the hotel on TripAdvistor, I admit, I was nervous about what might await us, especially since this was our first foray into all-inclusive resorts.

Upon our arrival, I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is set off the road, with a picturesque drive and entry way. If you're looking to glitz and glamor, this is not your spot; the charm is rustic and the vibe is low-key.

Cocobay was built 8 years ago, but has a picturesque feel that makes you think it could have been there for decades. This is the place to stay if you want to unwind, relax, avoid cell phones, TV and radio, but not if you want non-stop action and stimulation.

I had absolutely no problem with the quality of the cabins, and can honestly say the bugs were no worse than anywhere else I've been. Just use bug spray occasionally, and you'll be fine. The bathroom was unusual, as there was no shower curtain or bath enclosure. But, i'm on vacation, and I'm not cleaning the place us, so if water goes on the floor, I'm fine with that.

View from our porch was amazing, and the hammock was a nice touch. There are a good number of animals you'll encounter during your stay, from geckos to goats. But again, it's part of the rustic charm and was never disruptive or disturbing to us. The only slightly irritating part of the stay was the quarry down the road which was mining rocks for construction about 8 hours a day. Not horrible, but there were times where I was relaxing on the porch and and wished the dull hammering wasn't audible in the background.

The food was a mixed bag. Breakfast and lunch were passable. Buffet style, with decent selection and quality. At times, there were items I was apprehensive about eating certain items as they sat our for hours in the warm. Dinner was sit down, and quite nice, with a good number of selections, and most everything we had was certainly acceptable, if not delicious. Wine and drinks were excellent, although at times the mixed drinks were so strong we had to ask them to be watered down.

Staff was friendly, and everyone we encountered was smiling and gracious for the most part. My husband especially liked David the bartender. I agree with other reviewers that guests should not expect the staff to dote on them if they're aloof and rude in return. We were always polite to the staff, and were always treated wonderfully.

Don't miss Sheer, the restaurant attached to the restaurant (although not included in the all-inclusive plan). We ate there the last night, and it was delicious, with a number of unusual, but delicious menu items.

Cocobay is not a prime destination if you want to be out and about constantly. Taxi rides on the island are ridiculously expensive ($40 for about a 6 mile drive!), and bus access is a bit cumbersome, depending on what city you're hoping to visit, so budget some dollars to transportation, or be content with just hanging out at the hotel.

We did take the rain forest zip line tour, which was booked for us by the gracious concierge at Cocobay. It was a little pricey, but a nice experience, although slightly disappointing as they won't let you bring cameras (although some people in our group snuck them in and weren't told off.)

All and all, one of the most relaxing vacations I've had. The negative reviews of this hotel, I'm convinced, must have been made by travelers who enjoy places like Las Vegas, in which case I can see how Cocobay wouldn't be your cup of tea.
