My husband & I just returned from our vacation at the Grand Pineapple. After reading the reviews for the last 2 months I could not wait to see it for myself.
Most of the reviews were very accurate Then you have the few who complained about the birds in the restaurant or the less then friendly help or the food.
Well the birds are about as big as your thumb and pretty cute as a matter of fact. The only slight problem occured when the table was unoccupied for a time and there was food on it. The birds would not go near a table if someone was sitting there. We're not talking about an Alfred Hitchcock movie, we're talking about a few tiny birds. As for the less then friendly people, we found that they treated us as we treated them. Say a kind word and receive one in return. I found them very friendly. I injured my foot before we left N.Y. and they were most accomodating and caring. I booked an ocean view room and was a little skeptical about the steps (there are many) and they offered to give me a beach front room but the views from the ocean view room were gorgeous & the room was a bit more up to date. Some rooms are in need of a makeover but ours was very nice. The food, well if you want 5 star go to a 5 star resort ,but I would still give it an above average rating. Most meals were great some were average. The soups were incredible. I'd say out of our 21 meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner) maybe 2 or 3 were not so good. The chicken & ribs were worth the 5lbs I lost climbing up to The Outhouse (on crutches). The tropical drinks were not so good, they used a mix I think instead of the real thing. The picturesque setting screams for something in a coconut or pineapple but there were none to be found. The beach was absolutely perfect, white sand, turquiose water. Even the water and air temperature were perfect. Nice breeze all the time.
My husband and I found the whole experience very relaxing and enjoyable and would go back in a heartbeat

My girlfriend and I (both 23) booked a last minute 2 week holiday at the Pineapple Beach for the end of July and we were nothing short of amazed!
The beach is one of the best on the island and there were always plenty of loungers.
The food is excellent - such a variety of dishes every day (even a different type of pancake each morning at breakfast!). Loads of fresh fruit and fresh fish, and many different places to eat.
The bar service was also excellent - one of the only instances of all inclusive I have ever seen where champagne and premium brand alcohol is included.
We had an ocean view room which is well worth upgrading to. This had a massive bed, an excellent bathroom and was always kept spotless by housekeeping.
The staff were always friendly and always attentive and the hotel was extremely well kept.
I would recommend this hotel for young couples, as well as families with children of all ages - there are many activities every day to join in with whatever your age. There are also separate kids and adult pools if you're looking for some peace and quiet!
There were many couples and families staying at the Pineapple Beach at the same time as us and we all said the same thing - all in all, fantastic!
Please don't listen to people on this site whining about birds at breakfast (I never found any poo anywhere near food and remember it is the humans that have invaded the birds' habitat), tap water (it's perfectly safe to drink), unfriendly staff (if you're rude to them, they'll probably not enjoy serving you) and plastic cups (tourists tend to be lazy with their litter, so I'd rather tread on a plastic cup in the sand than a glass one)!

We stayed at the Grand Pineapple for 8 nights in mid May. There were positives and negatives to this hotel but we probably wouldn't go back again.

Firstly the positives...the location, as everyone says, is wonderful. Set right on the beach with plenty of sunloungers it is fantastic for sitting out and soaking up the sun. We had a beach room so we were steps from the beach. The beach was clean and the water clear and warm. The gardens were lush and green and very well kept with gardeners tending to it all the time. Lovely to walk around.

We were worried about the reviews saying the staff were grumpy and miserable but we found them ok. There were some who were a little off-ish but others that were only too pleased to help you. There were beach staff that came around twice in the 8 days to ask if you wanted a drink from the bar.

The beaches in the Antigua are apparently all public so you can't get away from the fact vendors are within their right to roam up and down. There were vendors on a daily basis but they weren't a problem and didn't harrass at all. There were usually a couple of security guards patrolling the beach day and in the evening so this put your mind at rest.

The main thing that put us off this hotel was the food and drink. It was our first experience of an all inclusive so we don't have anything to compare it too and maybe we had high expectations.

There was a booking systems for all three restaurants and this meant you couldn't turn up without pre booking. We actually found this ok and wasn't a problem to visit reception to organise this. The restaurants consisted of three restaurants, The Pineapple Grill (more relaxed feel), Chef Pietro's (a la carte italian) and the main restaurant (name escapes me). The Pineapple Grill was the best of the three and we ate there a couple of times although it really lacked atmosphere and everything seemed really basic. Some of the menu was charged as extra, for example steak and lobster. Chef Pietro was actually within the main restaurant but just up one end so it wasn't like you were in an authentic italian. The food was not very nice and definitely not the standard you would expect from an a la carte. In fact the food didn't really seem italian at all. Lasagne was the only 'italian' dish! We were very disappointed. The main restaurant again was lacking atmosphere and sometimes it was buffet style and others it was so-called a la carte. Either way the food seemed to be lacking flavour and was clearly mass produced rather than being made to order.

The cocktail bar was quite disappointing too. All the cocktails were pre made and were very sugary and gloopy and were poured into vending machine type plastic cups. I understand if they were to be taken onto the beach but sitting at the bar it just felt cheap to be drinking out of small plastic cups. The snack bar which was by one of the pools had food that was all pre cooked. The burgers were piled up and left out in the the heat and then just reheated when needed. We had two burger that obviously hadn't been cooked properly in the first place which were pink in the middle and gave my other half a bad stomach for the rest of the holiday. At breakfast time there was also a cockroach running around the plates on the self serve buffet area which really wasn't nice and also some of the sausages weren't cooked properly.

We were told that you could drink the water but I always worry about drinking the water abroad so we would always get bottled water which we had to pay a premium for. The shop on a couple of occassions ran out and this was the only place you could get it from (the bar didn't stock bottled water).

If the food had been up to standard it would have been superb but it really let the whole holiday down. I think it was in the interim period so maybe once it is re branded as Sandals the standards will increase.

What a little gem of a place. When we arrived we were greeted by a lovely cool rum punch and a welcoming smile! We were upgraded to the beach view rooms, amazing! To wake up to that view every morning. The room itself was lovely, great Air Con! 2 double beds very spacious. The staff were so friendly, the grounds were stunning and Marys Outhouse - well what can I say I can't comment on the Ribs as Im a veggie but the atmosphere was wonderful. We hired a Jeep for 2 days, we ventured out at 5am and explored the Island, we came across so many beautiful desserted beaches. The beach at Jolyy Beach its beautiful, but I'd say we had the best beach for snorkelling. We got a day pass for Sandals and to be honest we were glad we didn''t stay there, it had no character like Grand Pineapple.

I have just got back from 2 weeks at the Grand Pineapple Beach. I was a little nervous before we arrived due to reading some negative comments however both my husband and I had a lovely, enjoyable, relaxing 2 weeks.
The hotel is typical Caribbean, the beach is fantastic (we did not use either of the 2 pools during our whole stay). We upgraded and stayed in a ocean view room which I thought was worth the extra money as the view was breathtaking. The rooms were spacious and clean.
The food was nice and there was plenty of it. My only comment would be I thought there would be 3 separate restaurants in the evenings. Topaz was open all the time, Chef Pietro (Italian) was in the same restaurant as Topaz on certain nights. The Pineapple Grill was separate however they had the same menu for the 2 weeks were were there.
I was disappointed with the dress code policy in the evenings. My husband was not allowed to wear his smart leather flip flops but it seems trainers were acceptable which I think is scruffy for evening wear.
Mary's outhouse was for us the best. Mary and Gloria were friendly and very inviting. Enjoying a bottle of beer, ribs with amazing views what more could you ask for.
