We visited GPB June 3-10. I don't understand the negative reviews. Maybe it was bad luck or the wrong time of the year.

Check in: We were greeted by Reception with great warmth and rum punch.

Room: We were told the resort was only at 50% occupancy so we had a choice of a few rooms, even though we were already assigned to room 822. Chakka (?sp) took us in his golf cart to look at 2 rooms; 822 and 512. We first looked at room 822 which was an oceanview. It was great! There was a fresh fruit plate on the table, fresh flowers everywhere, 4 bottles of liquor and a fully stocked refrigerator with water, soda and beer. The bathroom was large and had a separate changing area. We are Allegro Vacation Club members which may be the reason for the special treatment. Then he took us to room 512 which is an oceanfront. It was not even close to room 822. It was musty, small and you couldn't walk onto the beach without stepping through hedges. So we went back to room 822. The A/C broke down within minutes but it was fixed by the time we returned at the end of the day. It also broke on the day we were leaving. So basically, it served our needs. We always had clean towels.

Pool: The pool was nice, always clean, always chairs available, always fresh towels. We never went into the adult pool.

Beach: The beach was gorgeous! Always clean. We only saw one beach vendor and we politely said "no thanks" and he said "thank you, have a nice day" and went on his way. Chairs were always available.

Restaurants: The Pineapple Grill was not open due to lack of guests but Chef Pietro served that menu one of the nights. The only nuisance as far as the restuarant goes were the birds at breakfast. They were everywhere! However, the food was fantastic in all restaurants. Joanne made the best omelets. Italian night was great as was Mexican night.

Outhouse: Well worth the trip up the hill. We never did meet Mary.

We rented a car for the week and drove around to the various beaches every day except for one (where we hung out at the resort all day). The first day, the resort packed us a picnic lunch to take with us. Dawnella was great! Went to Carlisle Bay, Jolly Beach, Half Moon Bay, Runaway Beach, Dickinson's Bay and Darkwood Beach. All beaches were incredible! Shirley Heights on Sunday night is a must! Great food and entertainment. It is crowded however so be prepared. Nelson's Dockyard was also nice. St. John's was a bust! We couldn't seem to navigate very well as the roads were not always clearly marked. We just got frustrated and never did get to shop. We didn't see much in town anyway so it was okay.

Excursions: Wadadli Cats was the best. We took the Circumnavigation cruise. Snorkeling was great, the food and staff were great. The best part was when we left the Caribbean and hit the Atlantic. What a rush! If you like to get wet, sit at the front of the boat and hang on! We also did Eli's Eco Tour, which was also great!

The staff at GPB were so friendly. It was tough to get a smile or chuckle out of Vera, however. I just think that's her nature.

I personally wouldn't waste time walking to Devil's Bridge. It's about 3 1/2 miles round trip and not that spectacular. If you have a car, drive there.

We would definately visit GPB again!

My wife Victoria and I spent our honeymoon here at Pineapple Beach. It is an absolutely great resort. Its quiet and relaxing, just what we wanted. The weather was lovely, it rained every day for about 10 mins then the sun would come out again. The Staff were only too happy to help and were very friendly. The food in all of the restaurants was 10 out of 10 , presentation and taste. The outhouse is a lovely place to spend the afternoon, a couple of beers, whilst taking in the views out to sea. If you want shops, and other tourist attractions then dont go to pineapple beach. It is a place to unwind and relax, although there are lots of watersports and good night time entertainment. The trip up to shirley heights on a Sunday night is well worth a visit, the views down over nelson's dockyard are fantastic. You also get to mix with the local people who all seem very warm and freindly to all the tourists. Overall 10/10 ,it was the best holiday / honeymoon that my wife and I have ever had and would recommend this place to anyone.

The resort is beautiful and well-kept. The climate is fantastic with a beautiful breeze. The place was less than half full during the middle of July, which is the off-season. The rooms are unremarkable and certainly nothing special. It was very easy to relax at this place, but only if you make your own fun and are willing to put aside any need for gracious service. The service was not good at all. Although we were frequently treated politely, the staff seems as though they are going through the motions and are very annoyed, the male bartenders particularly. They wouldn't engage at all - no eye contact, no conversation, and a very distant attitude at best. At the worst, it felt like they were saying, "I hate you, go away." Something is obviously going on at this resort that neither my wife nor I could quite figure out. We met some locals, who were lovely, warm people - so I doubt it's a cultural thing. I suspect that working conditions are bad (either wages or management relations) and that may be the cause. We are not spoiled Americans who demand to be sucked up to, but we have traveled enough to know good service. The 'politeness' the staff showed was clearly disingenuous. I would not go back, as I know there are many places that make it their business to take good care of their guests.

The hotel is definately not a 4 Star Hotel; We have an Ocean Front Honey Moon Room. The room was small, the 19 inch TV hardly worked; no refrigerator, only allowed 1 towel per person - had to argue with maid to get at least 2. Only 1 bar was open the entire time. The 3 restaurants are actually 1 big open space with different table clothes determining which hotel you're in. For breakfast and lunch, you are literally surrounded by birds because they feed the birds right where you eat!! They even allow the birds to eat on the silverwear that you are to fix your food with!!

The people there are not very friendly. They treat you like you're doing them a favor!

I'll admit that The Occidental at Pineapple Beach was not the poshest or most luxurious of resorts but it was really pretty, so serene, very clean and had such a nice energy about it. It was perfectly imperfect. The beach was so inviting, so warm, clear and clean - as was the sand - and not crowded. This is not a party resort (no shopping malls or noisy discos - if that's what you're seeking, you're looking in the wrong place, try Cancun!) but there were just enough people to bond with, play volleyball with, and dance with later at the disco. You won't find a chandeleir or mini bar in your room, but the rooms are spacious enough, clean and private. I felt very safe on the premises.

There was a nice mix of families, couples and singles. I though the workers were endearing. I'll never forget Roz at the snack bar, Mary at the outhouse and a few of the guys who served drinks. I felt the staff was really attentive at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is above mediocre, dinner is better, especially on a night when they are serving Italian food. The drinks - PHENOMENAL!!!

I met so many wonderful people from Italy, Scotland but especially from the U.K. I'm nuts about Brits!!! They're so friendly and so much fun to be around. The entire experience made this vacation so magical for me. The views were stunning, the tourists and the natives so dynamic and the whole experience just took my breath away. I came back home so completely satisfied and happy with my vacation. I wish the same for you.
