I couldn't agree more with the reviewer from Green Bay (and disagree with the one from Wichita). Pineapple Beach is the perfect island getaway. The food and the staff were great, and it is one of the best beach locations you will find. If you are looking for a super lux big box concrete resort, then you're not really looking for a true island experience. The people of Antigua are truly friendly, polite and helpful and the management was great. The food choices were extensive, bar service was quick with a complete selection, and you will be really surprised at how good Italian food can be on an island. You will love Pineapple beach!

I felt the need to write this review after reading a rather scathing one stating that Pineapple Beach was awlful. It's anything but that! We stayed there in March of 2003 and found the food, service, personnel, beach (incredible) facility and entertainment MORE than we expected. Don't let yourself believe that this is a 5 Star resort (by American standards) most resorts in the Carbibean are much more laid back, easy going and casual than resorts in the States and that's one of the appealing aspect of them! Why travel a long way, spend a lot of money, just to get the same experience as you would at home ? The resort is clean, well managed -if we wanted for something all we had to do was ask nicely and within a very short time we had it. Yes, the pace is slower than we're use to, but hey, we were on vacation and needed to slow down our hectic lifestyle a bit. (Why are we always in such a hurry ????) We found all of the staff extremely friendly and polite, we treated them with respect and got the same in return. As an example, we drink Jim Beam Bourbon and one night they ran out of it. We made a call to the front desk and within 10 minutes they produced a generous supply. They had to make a special trip to their warehouse just to get it - now that's service. We saw nothing but top shelf liquor. (we are not beer drinkers, so I can not comment on that selection). Regarding the childrens activities, be sure to check a resort before booking. Pineapple beach is not a couples only resort, however, they do not offer structured childrens program, hence, the lack families we saw there. Careful planning goes a long way so if what you want is a lot of nightlife, structured childrens activities, buffet after endless buffet, (we ate at all 3 of the restaurants, both buffet and off the menu and there wasn't one thing that wasn't delicious!) I would say the Pineapple Beach is not the right resort for you. However, if you want a pristine beach (absolutely gorgeous!), friendly and attentive staff, clean faciltites (we had no trouble with the pools, and saw the staff cleaning them daily and why would you want the pool anyway with that magnificent beach ?) very good food and nightly entertainment which provided a causal, relaxing atmosphere (usually quieted down after 11pm) a vacation at Pineapple Beach won't disappoint! Check out their website at and folow the link onto the message board, there is a wealth of information on this resort and many others on Antigua.

Our stay Oct. 28-Nov. 3 - 2003. Be sure you set your top expectations for your vacations and then check reviews to be sure your expectations can be met:If you like a nice quiet vacation and just want to sit on a beach or by a pool this is a fine resort. The food is not very good.
The breakfast buffet lacks variety and after several times is very boring. For lunch there is a restaurant the same restaurant as for diner where the selection is minimal and the service very slow. The pool snack area is okay for burgers and nachos but also very slow service. Breakfast is a buffet the rest is not except for one diner a week, the Italian restaurant which is just in a corner of the main restaurant is simply bad. The other restaurant Pinneaple Grill which claims to be caribbean is bad Mexican with very small servings. There are no buffets, I think because it lets them control their food costs better. We were there for 6 nights and never saw any of the pools being cleaned. The women don't like their jobs and don't realize that we spend hard earned money and many hours travelling to spend an nice vacation. I never saw a smile from one, the men are quite a bit better.
They don't know how to mix drinks and don't care. If you ask for something and they don't have it they do not offer anything else. They never ask if everything is okay at anytime during the stay or during meals. They allow kids but is stops there. No kid menu's, no playground, nothing. Kids can eat lunch from the snack bar but during diner they better like spaghetti with red sauce because that is all they will give you and you have to ask for it. The snack bar is closed during dinner so not a dinner option for kids. Nightly entertainment is terrible. By the way the pool bar, main bar, the Piano bar are all the same bar.
There is only one bar and one bar tender at all times. All drinks are low grade, beer only Red Stripe from Jamaica (drafts) or a local beer (drafts). For lunch at the outhouse you are lucky to get a bottle of Heineken. We never saw the (2) pools cleaned and we all came home with swimmers ear due to the dirty pools bacteria we think. If you use a taxi from the resort request Oscar he is very nice and willing to talk about the Island and all about it during the drive. Shopping in St. John you can do on your own (have your taxi wait for you while you shop, there is not extra charge) and is very, very safe. No alarm clocks in the rooms. We were in room 130 which was on the 2nd floor which had a garden/oceanview. Although this was an older room the view was nice.
There are a few beach vendors that don;t bother and once you told them "no thank you" they left you alone the rest of the time. There are local poeple that use a beach next door and they are fun and nice people to talk to. We took the walk to Devils bridge with a Pinnaeaple beach guide one morning, it is a 3 mile roundtrip walk. The guide never said a word to us or offered to take our pictures with Devils Bridge, there were only 5 of us on the 7am walk that morning. The Bird Island trip with Captain Savage (he really is from England originaly) is very relaxing. Captain Savage is fun and entertaining it is a very nice few hours away from the resort. I would go on it again if I was there on a longer stay just to get away from the staff at the resort. They just don't do anything to make the stay fun. We have been to many ohter All Inclusive resorts where the stafft takes an active interest in their guests. No one really acknowledged our 3-year old boy unlike the other places we have been on other Islands. Our son had a crush on a girl from England named Kate. If her parents read this please contact us. We were on the Bird Island trip together. We have your picture driving the boat for Captain Savage. Feel free to contact us if you have questions or concerns. By the way if you arrive at night and are not in the restaurant by 9:15 you can not eat until 11:30 and then only a hamburger, nachos or pizza at the pool snack bar that is open until 1:30am. I recommend that you arrive earlier in the day.

Have just returned having spent 14 nights at The Pineapple. Found it to be a very quiet place with virtually nothing close by. The beach compensates for the location. Found the food to be acceptable, certainly would not class it as anything special. A number of times the food was cold when served!!!! Given that the hotel was virtually empty I dread to think what it would be like when full. Got the distinct impression that the majority of the bar staff did not want to be there as sometimes it seemed to be an effort for them to serve you or even muster a smile!!!!! Would definately recommend a trip to Bird Island with Captain Savage, what a character he is. He certainly makes it a day to remember. All in all, a nice hotel in a nice location but I would not rush back.

I stayed at the hotel in October 2002 with my girlfriend for 9 nights, we basically had a great time. We had a garden view room which was ok, the decor was a little dated but the room was clean, comfortable had everything we needed, would recommend the newer oceanview rooms behind the main pool on a hill, they seemed nicer than the beachfront rooms(Older). The food generally was very good, my girlfriend is a veggie and we had no problems. Drinks were good, but they are useless at making cocktails, you would have the same one and it would taste different everytime! The bbq food and wadibe(Local beer) served at the outhouse by Mary is excellent, definately worth the walk up. The beach is first class, as good as beaches in barbados. The hotel is lacking in kids facilities but the pool and ocean is suitable for those with little ones. I would go back no problem.
