We just got back from the Pineapple and really loved it! We stayed in the 500 block ocean view, which was a very convenient location because it gave us quick access to everything. The beach was perfect and there were no problems whatsoever. I would spend up to 7-8 hours a day on the beach and it gave me enough of a private beach feeling as any other.

We ate breakfast, lunch & dinner at the Topaz everyday and there were no problems with the birds whatsoever and the food was really good!! If you go make sure you say hello to Goldine, she'll take care of you! We frequently went to the pool for a quick dip and the pool was always clean! The Outhouse for lunch was amazing and the view from there is a great experience, I loved the ice cold beers fresh for you to pick at anytime.

The water sports on the beach were great! I went sailing and snorkeling, it was a blast! If you're an active person like me then the Pineapple has plenty of activities to enjoy. I played futbol on the beach, tennis, volleyball, etc. Go see Crazy Jules he'll have something for you to do!! The nightly entertainment was very enjoyable, different bands, fire show, karaoke...etc!! The bartenders are really nice and have a pretty well stocked bar.

I could go on and on about this place...but I'll just say that I'll be back to visit there soon!! If you want to refresh your mind and body this is the place to be. I left there totally satisfied, refreshed and made some really good friends!! Do not trust or believe any of the negative feedback because those who left them are either ignorant or very close minded! I really hope that Sandals doesn't change this place other then updating the rooms!

Returned Feb. 4th from the Grand Pineapple. While I think the resort is closer to a 3 star, we still had a great vacation. We stayed in a standard room (elected to spend the extra money on day trips to see the island); the room was clean and really had everything that you need for sleeping. We did have a period of about 2 hours one day where we had no water, but the problem was fixed very quickly and did not inconvenience us at all.
The food was typical resort food (they cater to the masses after all); in fact I would say that it was equivalent to the food we received at a 4 star Couples resort in Jamaica a few years ago. Like every other resort that we’ve been to, I really wish they would have more island fare… I can eat pasta anytime at home. While the food definitely wasn’t gourmet, we certainly didn’t starve while there. I agree that there really are only 2 restaurants, and they only had a buffet dinner 2 nights of the week, but you have to keep in mind that it is a small intimate resort, if you want more choices, choose a larger resort.
As for the staff, we really found the majority of them to be very nice… ok, they may not run to serve you, but people… you are in the Caribbean, no-one moves fast. Besides you’re on vacation, what’s the hurry. And we did see management from time to time motivating staff and even pitching in to clean tables etc.
My only complaint… I really wish the staff of the tour desk were more helpful in suggesting day trips/activities. They seemed unwilling to help organize things.
My husband and I both thought that the resort did not appear as run down as some reviews indicate everything was very clean and in good repair.
All in all, I would have no problem recommending this resort.

  • Liked — Clean rooms
  • Disliked — no private balcony in standard rooms (but really not a huge issue)

We paid just over £1000 for one week per person to stay in this all-inclusive hotel in a sea-view room. Our hotel room was OK, but we believe that other guests were not so lucky!

All in all I thought it was an expensive trip. Not great value for money compared to other holidays we have had. The Grand Pineapple
Beach resort was in our opinion barely 4 star!

As other reviewers have indicated, the hotel was 'tired' and the pool and bar area have seen better days (in need of a refurb). The hotel claims to have 3 restaurants but to be totally honest I could only clearly distinguish two of them. The Topaz restaurant and the Chef's Table (?) appeared to run into one. The Pineapple Grill is clearly separate, but the food is no worse and no better. The service in the restaurants and in the hotel in general, again as others have said, is lacking (staff seemed a little indifferent), and the best nights we had were buffet nights - even so, you sometimes still had to clear your own plates between courses! The most strange thing is the bizarre dress code - ridiculously over-strict for the men and not in-keeping with the food and service which was lacking.

In our opinion the service generally in the hotel was slow, and not what you could call 'personal'. There did not visibly appear to be any senior staff managing the resort or leading the staff, and the staff seemingly didn't communicate well amongst themselves. You were lucky to see the General Manager at all, who seemed either reluctant to liaise with guests, or literally seemed scared of them!

The beach was very nice (like all other beaches in Antigua), although not well maintained/swept like other beaches I have been to; and I felt this was down to the hotel. The sun loungers were plentiful but not what you could call new - again could do with refurbishing or replacing.

Antigua itself is beautiful and we had a great holiday, but it wasn't down to the efforts of the hotel or its staff.

Would I go back...? To Antigua - definitely. Not to that hotel until the place has been updated/refurbished and not until better management
and maintenance is in place.

  • Liked — The location/beach etc
  • Disliked — The service was awful. The hotel is also in dire need of a refurbishment.

The rooms at the Pineapple were decent, housekeepers did a good job, but our AC barely worked. I heard a few other guests comment that they had AC problems as well. Our room on the hill was nice, with a spectacular view from the balcony. But the 70 steps to beach level kept us from making too many trips back, and forth.
The three restarants are really only two since the main dining room gets split in two serving Italian food on one side, and a different menu on the other side. The Pineapple Grill which is in a separate building had good Tex-Mex food, and was nice and cool after a day in the hot sun.
Breakfast was a good variety eggs, omelettes, fruit, pastry....
Getting coffee, especially decaf was always a challenge. Sometimes you'd be lucky to get it by the time you were taking your last bite of food.
The outdoor snack bar was the best option for lunch. They had great burgers, pizza, and ice cream.
Dinner was good, but very slow if you sat down any time after 7 PM. There seem to be enough servers around, but maybe the kitchen staff gets overwhelmed.
The drink servers seem to be the most personable of the wait staff. They were most likely to joke around and chat a bit.
Drinks were good, Jack Daniel's, Stoli, etc., but limited beer selection. Only Red Stripe, and Wdadli (Antiguan Beer) on tap,
and Heineken bottles if you go up to the Outhouse.
The beach was very nice. The ocean floor was like velvet. There's a reef not too far down the beach where you shouldn't have any trouble seeing a good number of fish if you'd like to do some snorkeling. There's usually a nice breeze to keep you from getting too hot on the beach. Because of where the resort is located on the island you won't see any sinrises, or sunsets.
We didn't have any problem with the staff, but there were definitely some who were friendlier than others.
