My wife and I booked a week at the resort and we were a little concerned about it after reading negative reviews here before we went.

Let me just say that for what we paid for the trip from Toronto, I would rate this hotel as being very good value for the money. OK, it's not a top notch, 5 star resort. If that's what you are looking for then this is not the place to stay.

If you are looking for a nice beach, friendly staff and acceptable food, for a fair price, then have no fear booking this place for your holiday.

We stayed in an oceanview room up the hill. If you have concerns about an extended walk up a hill to your room then these rooms are not for you. It was a total of 80 steps up from the beach to our room, which was located on the third floor up on the oceanview rooms. If you are not concerned about a good climb to your room, then the view from the oceanview rooms is worth it.

Food was good, although greater variety would have made it better. We enjoyed the Pineapple grill on those nights when it was available. Having to book your dinner every night was not much of a problem for us. We made sure that we went before 9 am every morning to book our dinner reservations and we had no problems. However, we like to dine early so that may have been why we never had any problems getting a time we wanted. You can book the Topaz restaurant up to a week in advance and we were always able to book any of the dinners at least 2 days in advance. There really are only 2 restaurants at this resort. They split the big central restaurant into 2 separate sections on most nights. The only separate restaurant is the Pineapple Grill and it is only available 3 nights a week. Mary's outhouse is worth the walk up the hill. Great ribs and chicken for lunch and the only place for bottled beer at the resort. The poolside snack bar is adequate, although they often start to run out of stuff late in the afternoon. Breakfast is standard buffett, but the fresh made omlettes were quite good.

Drinks were great. Premium liquor available at the bar, although only draught beer, unless you walked up to the outhouse.

Beach was fine, although not the best I've seen in the caribbean. I'd rate is around 7.5 out of 10. Lots of loungers, it was never a problem getting one. The beach was never really overcrowded any time during our week at the resort.

Staff were very friendly with my wife and I. All that was required was a thankyou and you always got a smile and a pleasant reply.

The resort manager was quite open about the Sandals takeover, at the weekly managers cocktail party. He indicated that no firm decisions have been taken yet as to what Sandals want to do with the property. Nothing will be changed until late this year or early next and they have not decided exactly what changes they are planning to make.

Average age of the crowd at the resort would be 45 to 50. Lots of seniors and lots of repeat visitors. There were not a lot of children or families here and that was fine for us. If you want a younger, party atmosphere then this is not the resort for you. If you are looking for a laid back quiet atmosphere, where you can rest and relax, and you are not looking for the 5 star price and services, then have no fear booking the Grand Pineapple Beach Resort. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised and we would return there for another vacation.

We got married at the pineapple last year in may. I hav no faults of the place whats so ever. Everything is abit slow but thats the caribbean for you lol.

I would recommend any couple who is wanting to get married hear 2do so. One thing though,if you are a veggi, you ant got much choice. Its all meat mostly.

The beach is fantastic and so are the people. Rooms are what you paid for. But we didnt spend all that money to sit in our room. We went with Virgin which my wife loves and trys 2fly with them if she can. Even if they are abit expensive. She will pay it lol

Another thing aswell that got 2me more was the wait at the antigua airport. Carnt remember how long we were in there but it was long. They dont seem 2have enough staff when you arrive there. But im just being niggley.

Once your out of the airport and get 2the pineapple. All that mess in the airport will be forgotten(hopefully) lol

Best bit for me was of course getting married (well i have 2say that cause if my wife reads this then i will be in trouble if i didnt say that lol) but that beach. Nothing what you would see at blackpool thats for certain lol

Loved the whole experience and would for sure go back

  • Liked — The beach
  • Disliked — Nothing really. Few things but nother to shout about

Just got back from GPB on Jan 19th.

THE GOOD:

Pools - beautiful.
Beach - breathtaking.

THE BAD:

Trip was over-priced.

Airport - expect v. long delays when arriving (3-4 hrs at Immigrations as all the flights always arrive at the same time on the same days and there are only 5 agents with 12 stamps each).

Rooms - need renovations, old bathroom, air conditionner did not work, no iron or board, no hair conditionner.

Food - Great selections if you eat meat - NO selection for vegetarians (come'on!). Men have to wear collared shirts, pants and closed shoes for all dinners (pretentious). You have to make a rezzie for every single dinner even if it's a buffet night (ridiculous). TOPAZ, CHEF’S PIETRO, etc... all just different names given to the same dinning hall depending on the night (hilarious). The service is v. v. v. slow (even by Caribbean standards).

THE UGLY:

The staff - Some of the female hotesses and waitresses were arrogant, haughty, snobbish, rude and did I mention incredibly slow. One night, it took over an hour JUST TO GET WATER.

We booked the Grand Pineapple from 31/12/07 to 7/1/08 and had a fantastic New Year at this resort. We had read the reviews on tripadbisor before going and could read between the lines.
I am quite a critical person, but could find nothing to moan about and plenty to praise at this resort.
Birds at breakfast.....wow.....they only set down on the table once you leave, Marys shack.....a long walk....yeh right......all of 2.5 minutes up a 30 degree slope for the best food in the Caribean.
The people were the friendliest in the world. Not an English hotel working student chav in sight.
I loved the expereince so much we are going back at least once this Summer and also for next Christmas and New Year,
The Antiguans are such a justly proud people and are more professional than anyone could ever be in England.
Michael and Keith on the Watersports were fantastic. Sooooo funny how they were genuinely shivering in their 'winter' at 85 degrees.
Petrula in the Topaz restaurant was one of the kindest people in the known universe. Jules on activities and entertainmaint was plain mad....in a good way.
Great food, great service, great everything.
The hotel is 4 star, but a Caribean 4 star. Don't expect a perfect room to sleep in. Tiled and basic with working Air Con and great Maid Service. The beach is the best and the restaurants superb....except the Pineapple Grill which noboby went to as prior warnings from guests all said it was inedible. The house wine is Chilean Concha y Toro...usually £8 in sainsburys. Champagne is also included, and there is NO additional charge for premium beer or anyhting else.
Marys shack on the hill is unique. I wooden structure that took 3 minutes to build. Everyone from around the worls has sat there and eaten ribs with a cold beer and watched the bat below and left a wooden plaque rtemembering their bliss.

Thats enough....bored of typing...I'm off to rebook.
Chill and enjoy the Antiguan relaxed style. The rooms are good enough and the resort second to none.

R&G

My husband and I vacationed at Grand Pinapple Resort the week of Dec 02, 2007. We were there to celebrate my birthday and we had the most wonderful time. A special THANK YOU to Amber Kirby (manager) and her staff for helping to make our vacation one to remember.

We were upgraded to a Waterfront Room and the view wasjust spectacular. Housekeeping did a great job keeping the room clean and stocked at all times. The Pineapple Grill is great for dinner and the food is delicious and served with big smiles. We never had a problem getting a reservation, but do keep in mind the 8:00 time slot goes very quickly. The other restaurants and bars were also good. There was always good food around. Mary's Outhouse is a must for good barbecue and cold beer. Always remember a smile and thank you goes a very long way in helping to make your vacation great.

The beach is great and we never had a problem finding chairs. The few vendors never hassled us we were able to just relax and enjoy ourselves. The resort tries to include everyone in their games and activities. The resort grounds were very well kept and lighted at night.

If you are looking for a very laidback and relaxing vacation without too much fuss, this resort is the ideal place for you.

Overall, great beach, spectacular views, good food ( depending on what your taste is) and above all the wonderful staff. You will definitely get your money's worth.
