Catamaran Hotel

I had a few unplesant surprises at the catamaran hotel. firstly the beach was terrible for bathing. There were a lot of that squishy stuff at the bottom of the water, i guess due to the marina. This turned us off from bathing there.
Secondly there was a great mix up as to the cost of my stay.Even though I called a number of times before i came to confirm the cost. I was told of the new cost when i arrived...it was very heart breaking for me as i budgeted based on what i was told . The free breakfast and caricom rates.....which we did not get.
I had made these reservations since April, and had called them many times after to confirm the cost and whatever questions I had....so it was strange that they had it mixed up

The refrigerator door completely fell off and was braced with a block of wood for the rest of the stay.

They overcharged us for laundry..95 EC (which was reasonable according to them)...when i took the clothes to the laundry and showed them they said it would have costed46 ECdollars....what a rip off . I informed Ron that their washer woman was ripping off
the guests..

The kayak and sailboat was ok however the padle boat had a broken seat which eventually broke off...so we could not use it. The 2 other paddle boats were non -functional.

Other than that we had a wonderful time in antigua but those unplesant surprises took some of the enjoyment and peace of mind out of our vacation.

I stayed at the Catamaran Hotel and I absolutely loved it. The staff is very friendly. The rooms are clean and comfortable. I especially loved my room due to its up to 6 persons occupancy. Even though there are kids with you, the hotel isn't too quiet for them. Its just perfect. Theres a great supermarket and a lunch/snack bar down the road. Its about a 5-10 min. walk (all depends on how fast you walk). There is only one problem : the beach doesn't feel clean. Its nice, but you don't feel clean because the marina is right there and the water isn't clear as other beaches. Other than that Catamaran is a great hotel. Loved it!

I stayed at the Catamaran for 1 night before boarding a ship but wish I had been able to stay longer. It is not a fancy property and the amenities are limited but my room was large and clean. It had a very nice balcony with comfortable chairs overlooking the sea and harbor. It is also a very short walk to a cute harbor bar and restaurant at the marina. It does have a small beach which is nice, as well as a swimming pool. The hotel and surrounding area were peaceful and relaxing. This is probably not the place to go if you are looking for lots of activities or partying but I really enjoyed the quiet and nice view. The staff was very pleasant and helpful as well as unobtrusive. It is a short taxi ride to Nelson's Dockyard and all the bars at Falmouth Harbor. If you are looking for a peaceful, comfortable location, this is a great place to stay.

We "discovered" Catamaran in February 2006 and had a great time, came back in February 07 and we had an even better time. Dynah, Ron, Robert and everyone working there is simply wonderful. The hotel deserves to be known and appreciated. There is a small beach, it is quiet, a restaurant is a few minutes walk away and they are planning to open one on site too. Our 2 little girls had a brilliant time, and we could relax. The self catering is OK, nothing fancy but functional. The rooms are spotless, everyone works really hard to keep the whole place very tidy. I could go on and on, it is very rare to go somewhere and feel you can chill out completely, Catamaran does just that. A local supermarket (Baileys) is only 5 minutes walk up the road, and if you hired a car you will be fine. Nelson's dockyard is only accross the bay, and Robert will happily give you a ride on the hotel little boat if you need.
Perfect, can't wait to be back in 2008!

I stayed here waaay back in April-May of 2004, but I'm hoping to be back again in 2007, and I hear that they now have a pool! My friend and I stayed at the Cat Club while we raced in Antigua Sailing Week and it was perfect for our needs, and not terribly expensive, considering what some others were paying that week. You can walk to the village in Falmouth Harbour (and beyond to Nelson's Dockyard) or you can take a water taxi from the dock over to the Antigua Yacht Club area. Taxis are also easy to get and not expensive.

The staff is friendly and pleasant and the rooms are spacious, airy and clean. We had a fabulous balcony overlooking the ocean which was cool and shady all day. Our room had a fan, a double bed, a single bed and a small kitchenette as well as a good-sized bathroom (always had hot water and decent pressure) - perfect for 2 single women! There are various room configurations. There is a restaurant in the marina area next door (where many of the big sailboats were docked) that serves breakfast, lunch and drinks, but the service there is SO TERRIBLE (even by Caribbean standards) - be prepared to wait forever and have a sense of humor. Not sure about the other review saying all they served was hot dogs (?) - must be a different place as the food is good, once you get it. A small detail though, in such a gorgeous location!

Almost everyone staying there was racing like we were, so we were out all day from early morning to evening - I imagine it was very quiet during the day, but it was also quiet at night. After racing it was great to have an espresso martini at Dougie's (Skulduggery) over at the AYC and then go out for great food and late-night partying. Other than perhaps lying by the pool or sitting on your balcony reading a book, I can't imagine spending much time there during the day, but there's plenty to do in Antigua without sitting at your hotel!

    • Liked — The price, the convenient location and the huge, airy, cool balcony with amazing views!
    • Disliked — The beach outside wasn't great for swimming. Probably better now with the pool.
    • Tips/Secrets: — Be sure to get a taxi to Shirley Heights on Sunday nights for rum punch and reggae!
