Just returned from a blissful two week trip at the St James' Club in Antigua.
Lots of the reviews I read before I went were pretty fair, but some are just down-right ridiculous! Some people must be soo picky!
We stayed in one of their Bay Suites, which was very spacious, but a little old fashioned. That's not to say that it wasn't comfortable. The amenties were all you need - massive bed, extremely large bathroom, and a seperate sitting room with TV and sofa. The air-conditioning was great - well needed after a hard day on the beach! It also has a very large verandah that looks over on to Marmora bay - breathtaking!
The food was lovely too. All you could need at breakfast - cereals, pastries, fruit, yoghurts, cooked food (and eggs any way you want them). Lunch was either a buffet affair at the Rainbow Garden, or you could grab something at the beach or pool grills. The best restaurant in our opinion was The Docksider. The setting is very romantic and the food and service excellent. We never had any problems with slow service once, although the staff are not massively friendly.
The beaches are lovely too. We spent most of our time on the calm beach, Marmora Bay. It is hotter on that side, but there is a breeze rather than a gale here! The sea is not the clearest at St James', but great for a quick dip and cool down. We took a day trip to Barbuda on the Excellence tour, and the beaches there just took our breath away - definitlely a must!
The main pool was always very busy, but for some starnge reason, the kids pool was deserted, so if we felt like a change, we went there instead!
All in all we had a fabulous holiday, just sad to be back! We probably wouldn't go back to Antigua, as we like to try out new places each year, but if anyone was going there, I would recommend this place. Not disappointed at all after being rediercted from the Verandah Hotel (which still hasn't opened!).
Hope you have a great time, as we did!
