My wife and I spent 2 weeks at the Beach Club on the Atlantic side early in February and thoroughly enjoyed it. We got off to a good start by being upgraded to Upper Class on the Virgin Atlantic flight to Antigua. It was a bit chaotic at the airport, but we eventually got to the resort just after dark. We were offered a fruit punch on arrival and taken to our Room on one the motorised carts that are available at the resort. I have read all the previous reviews on this resort and many of them did make me apprehensive about coming here, but I can only say that our experience was much better than we could have expected. OK, so you can spend a lot of money to come here, and I think that is where some peoples expectations fall down. If you are expecting some 7-Star paradise for your money…that is not what the St James Club is….it’s a good solid 4-Star Resort. We have travelled extensively, and been in all sorts of accomodation...there was nothing wrong with this resort unless you just like to complain. The room was clean and spacious.... it was situated in the Mango Block overlooking the beach and the air conditioning was very efficient. We used Cocos Restaurant for all of our meals. Although we had the option to eat at the other restaurants, we found the food to be so good and varied at Cocos that we just didn’t bother (no french fries..hooray!), and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. If your wine glass was nearly empty it was soon filled up. We preferred the Atlantic side beach as it was a lot cooler. The seaweed didn’t bother us, and it was removed daily from the beach by the staff. We took advantage of the Timeshare visit which lasted about 30 Minutes with no pressure. For that we received a 70 US Dollar voucher to spend in the Club shop, and a 50 US Dollar voucher to spend in the Casino (we didn’t win, but we know someone who did!) We will definitely come here again.

We have just come back from our honeymoon at the Beach Club at St James and it was wonderful, huge room right on the beach, massive bathroom, really nicely done and very clean, BOTH beaches are great, nice to have a choice of a cooler one with the winds and a very hot one without the breese, couldent fault Coco's for the food or the service, both excellent, as is the snack bar on the beach.

We found a total of FIVE pools, one of which is a tiered pool so four pools in one, every time we went to the tiered pool we were alone and there was not many people at any of the other pools too, and the beaches were never busy, always spaces to sit.

I took some insect repellent and just put it on before going to dinner and we never had any trouble with insects.

I coulde not fault this resort generally, and dod not understand the bad reviews, but be warned that there is not much evening entertainment at Coco's, only a couple of evenings a week, so if you want more than having a nice quiet drink you will have to vsit some of the other bars etc.

Having just spent a great week at the St James' Club I had to write to say what a wonderful place it is to spend a holiday. The location is beautiful, the people at the hotel are lovely and the food and drink are excellent. There's plenty to do if you want to do it and lots of beach front to laze on if you don't. The Wadadli cocktails are addictive but highly recommended. There are other beautiful spots on the island but I think the St James' resort must beat the lot of them.

We stayed at the St James Club for 10 days at the beginning of April 2005- we have just returned & would have stayed longer. We are a family of 3, one of us being only 6 years old. What a fantastic resort ! Having read some of the reviews posted it amazes me what expectations some people have !! We have travelled the Caribbean over the last 15 years and this was definitely the resort that has something to offer for everyone. The Kids club is well organised and offers plenty to do from 9.00am through to 10.00pm. The rooms are clean & comfortable- basic standard but you do not go to ther Caribbean to be in the lap of luxury in your accommodation -go to the middle east for that !!! All meals are good & the staff serving the food are very friendly & jovial if you treat them with the respect that they deserve. It is so annoying to hear the way many of the Brits & even more of the U.S guests treat the staff as if they were beneath them. We would certainly recommend this resort to any family who are looking for a well chilled out holiday- the only fault was the half stone in weight that was put on by eating all of the beautiful meals !!

We just returned from the the most wonderful stay at the St. Jame's Club! After reading the forums on this resort, we were extremely skeptical, as many, if not most, were extremely negative. We have only rave reviews on every aspect of our vacation. Our accommodations were ocean front (Atlantic side), and our room was quite nice, very large with a king bed, an over-sized bathroom with two pedestal sinks and huge tub/shower combination and a large, large balcony facing the ocean. As we were on the second level, we were most comfortable with leaving the sliding glass door open when we slept with only the wonderful, refreshing ocean breeze and the ceiling fan to cool us. It just wasn't necessary to have the A/C on when we could sleep with the door open, very comfortably, while hearing the waves roll in. The weather was hot during the day; however, the trade winds kept us cool. Yes, there is some sea weed on the shore, which is cleaned up daily, but with 4 swimming pools, who really needs the ocean? All of the water sports are located at Mamora Bay, which was also lovely. We found the food and beverages to be excellent. Our favorite restaurant was the Docksider, but we also enjoyed the Rainbow Garden and Coco's. The ala carte choices were absolutely wonderful and beautifully presented, and when they weren't offered, the dining was buffet style. We found the selections to be more than adequate and very, very tasty. I would also like to add that there were NO bugs, mosquitoes, etc. The staff at the St. Jame's is absolutely outstanding; friendly, warm, caring, helpful and, most of all, just so much fun to be with! We had an absolute blast with them and they with us! If you do visit the St. Jame's, make it a point to seek out Karl and Tracy (front desk), Sheridan and Marshane (they drive the beverage cart along the beaches), Sherry Anne, Loy, Claudia, Annie, Michael, etc. (servers). They were all just FABULOUS, and so much fun. We were 2 couples who just wanted to have a wonderful time, and making friends with the staff totally added to the whole vacation experience! I won't mention any names, but one of them took us on a tour of the island. We rented a car for the day, and guaranteed, saw places that the average vacationer does not see. We chose to see Shirley Heights with our "tour guide" when no one was there, and it is as spectacular as everyone says it is. The views are absolutely incredible (don't miss it)! I just can't say enough about the entire week of fun, sun, food and amazing staff. If the St. Jame's Club is a resort you are contemplating, please don't let the negative comments stand in your way! We found all of them to be totally untrue. If people have bad attitudes, they should stay home. After all, a vacation is what YOU make of it!
