I think if perhaps we were told by our travel agent (which we weren't) that it was a three star hotel (which it is) and not a five star hotel (which they claim, and is not) we would have been satisfied. However, after shelling out more than $6,000US for a week stay at St. James Club AI, we were very disappointed. My husband and I generally like to vacation at Ritz Carlton, Four Season properties, and our travel agent assured us that it was of that calibur, shame on them. So I don't fault St. James Club completely, I fault the travel agency who persuaded us. I could add to the endless negative comments on this site but I would just merely be repeating what many of you have already read (bad food, terrible service and average Holiday Inn type rooms).

I would like to add- If you know a little about wine (and I am in the business) the selection is terrible, so do yourself a favor and bring your own from home, it will be worth it. I was reading that the drinks were top shelf? I didn't see that. As a matter of fact, they were just well drinks at best. Book your dinner reservations before you leave home. Yes I said it, before you leave home, it will be worth it. Dining at Piccolo is the only restaurant that has ok food. We never had a problem finding beach chairs or pool side chairs. Hot tub was "out of service" for entire week and by the looks of it, was going to be out for a lot longer.
If you get a good deal and are expecting average service, food and accomodations, go for it. If you are going expecting five star resort, go to Jumby Bay.

My husband and I spent 6 days at the St. James Club for our honeymoon in August. We loved our room ~ walked out onto the beach ~ but like other reviews stated, the patio door was difficult to open. The grounds were beautiful, but we were somewhat disappointed with the beaches. We spent alot of time on the Atlantic beach because it was right outside our room. The beach was small and at times very crowded. There was also ALOT of seaweed on the sand by sunset. The other beach was okay but the water on that side was not clear at all. We found the restaurants okay as well. Meals were pretty much the same every day. We did enjoy eating at the Docksider for dinner. Service was slow at times and the staff wasn't overly friendly. If you do go to Antigua, be sure to go to Shirley Heights and take the Seafari excursion - both were awesome. I would definately recommend going into St. John's and eating at Hemmingway's. On an end note, we were not informed of the hotels dress code for dinner - no shorts aloud. Be sure to bring pants. If you are looking for a nice place to go and relax, this is the place for you. If you are looking for really good service, excellent food, and alot to do, go somewhere else. We spent the other part of our honeymoon in Purto Rico and were much happier there.

We Had prepaid a trip to the COCOBay resort on the other side of the island. what a dump!!! bad food accomodations everything!!! left after 2 nights left $5000 on the table to escape that dump. Found the St.James club.Thank goodness. what a wonderful time we had. food was excellent ,the staff was friendly. we went sailing swimming scuba diving you name it. I thought this place was the best. You could order drinks made with name alcohol versus no-name at cocobay. I would recommend ,as a matter of fact I am going back next year!!!. I cannot understand where the bad comments are coming from for it is not the same place where i stayed!! I think the competition is sabatoging this place.Book it and you will not be disappointed

Returned from St James Club yesterday having stayed from the 17th January and given that we possibly stayed there during the same period as the previous reviewer, feel that I have to stick up for the place to an extent.

Food is available from 7 in the morning until around ten pm in the form of three formal meal time slots of approximately three hours each and a couple of burger bars filling in the gaps. Afternoon tea is also served. Food quality in general was good - above average for this kind of place for sure.

The location is stunning and if you have kids (we don't), it's a fantastic place to let them off the leash.

The staff in general were friendly and keen to help and although I appreciate this is a very laid back part of the world - they could at times be a little sharper.

We were a little disappointed with the quality of the room as we had paid extra for a premium room - nothing major, just that it was a little rough round the edges (a cracked bath, a rusty mirror, louvre windows not working and stuff like that). For the money that we had paid it was a tad disappointing.

We were surprised at having to pay premiums for use of one of the resteraunts.

This is not a party resort and nor does it claim to be. We went there to re-charge the batteries and have come away satisfied that we have done so.

To summarise - great location, fantastic for families and couples alike to come and relax. However there is room for improvement if it is to fully justify the price tag attached to it.

We would go back but would like to see them up their game a little.
