We were married at St. James Club on January 9th and spent one week there with our close friends. Upon seeing the different places for dinner and other attractions, one of our guests kept repeating that "This place is awesome".

St. James is a great place for a group of friends, perhaps who have children. The property is large and diverse enough to ensure that everyone will have a great time, and yet also be able to find some privacy. The children, mostly British, are incredibly well behaved.

We had read the trip advisor reviews about poor staff attitudes, and were initially concerned when we did not recieve prompt replies to e-mail questions about our wedding plans. When we arrived, we were very pleasantly surprised. Everything was taken care of by the staff and the wedding was perfect. We realized that e-mail cannot replace personal contact.

I was at St. James two years ago. The biggest difference that I noticed was the efforts of the new manager, Jeff. It is obvious that he is working very hard to meet with guests, and listen to their concerns. Staff seem much better motivated to be hepful. Jeff even took some time to drop in for our post wedding celebrations.

By way of constructive criticism, the resort is slowly upgrading the rooms. Some of the rooms have aging equipment, such as a ceiling fan that makes some noise.

In summary, I would go back to St. James without hesitation, and we plan to do so in the future to celebrate our anniversary.

My wife and I took our honeymoon at St. James Club. We booked an all-inclusive package. After arriving late due to flight cancellations and after a bad cab experience, we were pleasantly greeted by hotel reception. Since it was late and the restaurants were closed, they gave us complimentary room service.
We stayed in a 2nd floor beachfront room in the pineapple building. The room was very clean and it was much nicer than the pictures indicated, especially with the amazing view of the ocean. The AC in the room was ice cold; plenty of channels on the TV and the bathroom was very spacious.
The resort itself was well kept. We mostly ate at the Rainbow Garden for breakfast and lunch, and the Docksider for dinner. The Food was very good at each place. I read some reviews on here about the staff being slow and rude....I felt that they were on "caribbean time" so they moved a bit slower, but it wasn't horrible. We took part in a few activities, but never left the premises. The magic/comedy show was decent and the fire dancer was pretty neat. Just so people know, the casino was closed.
I have only 2 complaints. One, we ate at Piccolo Mondo one night at we saw a few cockroaches (however the food was excellent). The other complaint is there were jelly fish on the ocean side so we couldn't swim (mamora bay was calm and jelly fish free).
I would highly recommend this place and we plan on going back in few years. I always read reviews and do lots of research before I plan a trip and I am VERY PICKY when it comes to hotels, but I'm not sure where the bad reviews about this place came from; It's AMAZING!

We stayed at the St. James club during the week of Jan 19-26. We had a party of 16 people as we got married while we were down there. The wedding itself went smoothly. A huge thanks to Tabatha and Prince, who both did a simply awesome job.

The food was 1st class for everyone who went. We ate at all 4 restaurants and were extremely impressed. We have all been on many all inclusives and this was the best food we have ever come across. Lots of selection and great taste. The majority of the wait staff were friendly and willing to help. They don't go out of their way to strike up a long conversation with you (I don't think they should), but if you say hi and start a conversation with them, they are very receptive and can be very funny.

The watersports facilities and staff are great and the beach volleyball kept us entertained for a couple of hours most days.

The rooms are nice with lots of space for luggage, etc. The bathrooms are huge and are kept very clean.

The beaches were as most have pointed out. One is windy and the other hot. We spent most of our time on the hot beach and in the pools. One of the best things about this resort is there was always lots of sunchairs and shade available. You never had to race to the beach and reserve your spot as you do at most resorts.

Management was always around collecting feedback, etc. This was great to see, and it really let us know they cared how our trip was going.

My only suggestions was to stop charging for the bottled water and the room service when you are all inclusive.

We can't wait to return to the St. James club.

To start off I would like to say that I have absolutely no idea where all the negative reviews are coming from. The property was among the best we saw on the island and everyone we met was friendly and chatty. The Ocean beach was windy but looked like a Hawaiian resort beach with swaying palms. The windiness kept kids to the bay side. Swimming on the ocean side was not great due to turtle grass but still pretty enjoyable as there were sandy spots. The bay side beach was very calm and beautiful too, the only downside was that it could get a little crowded

Buildings were uniform and understated compared to other resorts we saw which were gaudy looking. I Recommend beachfront rooms as there is a wonderful nightime breeze from the Atlantic. Rooms were clean and well kept . The only change my wife and I would make would be a larger sink and better toiletry products (her suggestion). Housekeeping service was fine. No turndown service but that's o.k.

The groundskeeping was flawless.

The staff was perfectly charming and helpful. Especially Joan at Coco's who we loved. An easy smile from all was readily available. Only saw one staff member who irked us and this was a teenager reading a fashion magazine at the beach food stand, No different from any self absorbed American teen though.

Food was just O.K. but we didn't exactly break the bank going to St. James's so we didn't expect gourmet. The $35 surcharge for Piccolo Mondo was kind of annoying but not as big of a deal as others are making it. We suspect it is done to keep the hoards away as this restaurant wants to remain special and quiet and that's hard to do at a place like this.

Being asked for room number every time we ate was not an inconvenience as other reviews indicate. Sounds like the problem is theirs.

Overall my wife and I spent the week at St James's Club complaining about nothing as there just wasn't anything to complain about.

We stayed at the Beach Club and were delighted with the facilities.
The rooms ( standard) were very spacious and the view just great.
Choice of two beaches - Mamora Bay being too hot most of the time but the Atlantic beach had a great breeze which kept us cool.
Drinks cart was marvellous- cold sodas when you really need them.
Coco'sbar area was a bit featureless but the friendly staff compensated for that.
In Coco's restaurant the staff were friendly- in particular thanks to Joan, Karen and Tryphina.
Our deal ( AI) gave access to Rainbow and Docksider resaturant once a week - but actually we preferred Coco's. Docksider needs more lighting- unless you like to not see what you're eating!
Piccolo Mondo restaurant was a pleasure- not rushed, splendid views and fine food- would recommend a meal there.
Duty Manager available 24/7 and receptive to feedback ( not that we had anything to complain about really) which is promptly addressed- thanks Jeff.

Location is great being near to the English Harbour ( breathtaking scenery) and Shirley heights.
Take an island trip by road to get a feel of the island ( and maybe spot another location to stay next time....the Verandah might be good- eco friendly hotel.?)
We would definitely return to this hotel.
