Just spent a wonderful week at this hotel. The location is idyllic and the hotel has everything that you need.
We had a superior sea view room and it was very pleasant. I would not call it luxurious but it was clean, fresh and had a comfortable bed with crisp linen. The maid even sprinkled flower petals on the bed most days. There were two double beds and a large walk-in wardrobe. The bathroom had a good shower and was always stocked with fresh towels when needed. The view from the balcony in the evening, when the sun was setting, was spectacular.
We did not have air con but frankly we did not need it. The ceiling fan and the natural breeze were more than adequate for cooling the room.
The beaches were all very nice, clean and quiet during our stay. When the sea is calm there is some excellent snorkelling to be had from Honeymoon Beach. Watch out for sea urchins though. Eden Beach is the largest beach and is a pleasant place for a stroll (for those not offended by a bit of nudity).
The food in the main restaurant was of a consistently high standard and there was plenty of variety on the buffets and on the table de hote nights. The wine available on the all-inclusive deal was drinkable and better quality wines were available by the bottle, at a reasonable price. There is also plenty of choice for breakfast with a chef on hand to prepare any kind of eggs and also fresh pancakes and french toast.
The staff are very pleasant & friendly and will go out of their way to help you. The bar staff at the Sea Grape bar were always cheerful and rarely kept you waiting for more than a minute. They will make up any cocktail that you ask for but beware, if you ask for a glass of wine to take on the beach you get a half pint plastic tumbler full! It was our 21st anniversary whilst we were there and the reception team sent us a card and gave us a bottle of bubbly.
Sylvia Henry is one of the waitresses but she also does a tour of the extensive gardens. This is a very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours and you can learn about some Caribbean plants and wildlife. Another highlight is the trip to Shirley Heights for the Sunday BBQ. We went on the hotel shuttle (using taxis) and found it good value and reliable. The only downside was that the hotel request that you are picked up at 8:00pm in order to get back for dinner and this is the time that the the reggae band at Shirley Heights are just getting warmed up - next time we will stay and get our own taxi back. The hotel also had a couple of good bands on during our stay.
Taxi's to St Johns are also arranged by the hotel but if you intend to do some serious shopping then you will need more than the three hours they allow.
The exterior of the hotel was undergoing some re-painting whilst we were there and by the end of the week was looking very fresh and bright. There is a small shop that stocks most things that you may need during your stay, including bottled water.
The only things to watch out for are expensive calls from the hotel lobby phone, mosquitos and sand flies. Get some heavy duty repellant! Also, the pool is small but with four beaches to hand, who needs it!
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and we are looking forward to returning next year.
