We have just got back from The Hawksbill and can't wait to go back. This is a place you will either love or hate. Clearly we love it.
Four fabulous beaches, two lovely restaurants, freindly and attentive staff and a very visible management team.
Entertainment is of a local nature and of a high standard.
On monday's there are four Senoir Antiguans who perform calypso music using the simplest of instruments which i'll leave you to discover when you go.
The beaches are clean and quiet and the sea safe to swim in and as clear as can be ( unless theres a storm ).
The food is of good quality with a huge buffet breakfast with everything you could possibly want, supplemented by a chef cooking eggs any way you can think of.
Lunch comprises a special plus fish always, pasta, salad or even burgers and hot dogs if you wish.
Afternoon tea consists of cakes, biscuits and sandwiches at the beach bar and very nice it is too.
The evening meal has a few different formats, BBQ, A served meal or a Buffet, all are good quality and have considerable variety so if a dish doesn't appeal to you there's alway's an alternative.
The room we had was a Superior Sea View and it was huge.
We had two king size beds, a big wardrobe, a shower room and toilet together with a superbly lit miror over a big sink.
Outside we hasd a very nice big balcony and we were only 30 yards from the sea.
The room was serviced daily by Edna who did a great job even changing the sheets, pillow cases and towels every day as well as mopping the floor daily.
The refrigerator in the room was of great use to keep a supply of cold water although it's always available from a dispenser at the beach bar.
The beach towels are lovely and big and fluffy and can be changed as often as you like.
The wildlife is fascinating - Sheep, Goats, Birds, Fish, Mongoose, Crabs to name but a few.
I have so many photographs i don't know what to do with them all.
Although the Hawksbill is 'All Inclusive' it is nice to go out to the capital St Johns or maybe to Shirley Heights or for a meal.
I would reccomend 'Le Bistro' or the 'Home Restaurant', both superb ( but not cheap ).
Local people welcome you with open arms ( after they get to know you ) as i found out by walking to the local village ( Five Islands Village ) every day.
It's about two miles and great excersize.
Talking about excersize you can keep a check on your weight at the Hawksbill because every room has bathroom scales.
Fortunately the batteries were flat in ours and i never asked reception to replace them.
Overall it's a great place to get away from it all, very quiet, laid back, restfull and stress free, just what most people want in a vacation.
I would recommend the Hawksbill by Rex Hotels most highly, i'm sure you won't be dissapointed with what i think is a great value hotel

My boyfriend and I visited this hotel after booking a last minute getaway in May, so we hadn't done much research and didn't know quite what to expect.
It was brilliant!
The location is stunning. The beaches were NEVER crowded and the staff (apart from 1 bar lady at the beach bar) were all lovely helpfull and cheery.
we had one of the basic rooms in the main block of accommodation, but they were lovely. A little basic, with slighty old decor, no air con, but we didn't need it, at night the seas breeze keeps you cool enough to sleep. they were however kept lovely and clean and the bathroom was spacious with a good shower.
i was most impressed with the standrad of the all inclusive food. no samey buffet and cheap drinks. the cocktails were all mixed freshly and they would make you anything you wanted. the food was excellent. buffet one night then served to the table the next, this kept you interested in the food and it was varied so you never felt (as I have in some all inclusive hotels) that you are eating the same food all night!
I agree with other reviewers - you MUST go on the Garden Tour it was really fun and informative. Also everyone who goes to Antigua should go on a night trip to Shirley Heights, it's the best night out EVER, with great live music, and a stunning view of Nelson's Harbour.

Stunning location, great food, excellent house wine, friendly staff, good service, great beaches and very clean. We were apprehensive due to negative reports, but everything FAR exceeded our expectations.

The lunches were especially good with excellent salads to accompany the grilled fish, chicken or burgers or other food ordered from the very varied menu including some typical Caribbean options like Chicken roti.

We had a week of total relaxation. This place is a real gem. If you dine out in Manhattan every night and expect staff to snap at the click of your fingers, stay at home. If you are into engaging with the staff, you will meet some of the friendliest people around.

We couldn't recommend the Hawksbill strongly enough.

We planned our trip with friends from West Virginia and United Kingdom
for a fall holiday at Hawksbill. Two of the three couples had been to the Caribbean before. Our experience was so wonderful! The view from our room and the beaches was unbelievable. My husband took out the sailboat and snorkeled at the reef right out in the swimming area. On one of our days, we booked a day with the Miramar large sailboat for our entire group. We highly recommend this day excursion from Jolly Harbor and another day trip to the English Harbor. We rented a car and most of the trip let our British friends do the left-hand side of the street driving.

During our stay, I felt an overwhelming desire to thank the local people for allowing us to share in their island's beauty. My husband enjoyed photographing many of the beautiful sights in St. John, English Harbor, and at Hawksbill. Our room was clean and very comfortable. The food was good in the all inclusive. The staff worked hard to change items with buffet and menu orders. The coconut ice-cream and lime crushes at lunch were a special treat for us. We all love seafood and enjoyed the "catch of the day" many days at lunch and supper as well as one morning for breakfast. The musical entertainment was good and enhanced the island flavor.

Most of the people staying at Hawksbill were in our "baby boomers" age
group and looking for quiet relaxation. This is the place!

If you like a laid back vacation, and uncrowded beaches, this is the place for you. The 37 acre hawksbill property has four beautiful beaches (about a miles worth?) and just over a hundred rooms. Even at full capacity it is easy to find peace and quiet.

The staff is very friendly and the food is excellent. The all inclusive package is a great deal. We have returned to the hawksbill with our extended family nine times, and we have never been disappointed.

if in the other hand you like the hustle and bustle of high-rise resorts and crowded beaches, the hawksbill is not for you
