Summary:
She says: A dream honeymoon. FLAWLESS!
He says: Wonderful time, but I'm nitpicky, so......
Arrival: At the airport we were warmly greeted by the CB rep. About a 30 minute cab ride ($31 US) to the resort. Interesting trip, complete with mules, horses, dogs and goats roaming the roads. I'm so glad we didn't rent a car!!
After a brief tour of the grounds, I was eager to get to the room---I e-mailed ahead to request a bottle of champagne be on ice at arrival. Unfortunately, none was to be found. Disappointing, considering Annette responded to my email with "We will take care of everything for your arrival." Forgivable, considering my new bride was absolutely enthralled by the beauty of the resort.
Room: Our junior suite was absolutely fantastic. The building was only a few years old and featured high ceilings, huge bathroom, elevated bed area and a large sitting area. Decor was elegant. A slight drawback was the bedding, which was just average (but comfortable), as we are used to the luxury bedding at the Marriott and the W.
Food: Overall food was excellent. House wine and top shelf drinks were included. Breakfast was the usual fare, with plenty of choices. We loved lunch on the beach, we tended to choose the buffet, but you could order off the menu. Highlights included: lobster salad (huge chunks of lobster), smoked fish, paella (which was only fair) and barbecue chicken/ribs. I ate grilled fish everyday (which was AMAZING).
Dinner was very good. NOT five star, but very good. Appetizers and entrees were almost all delicious (pasta tends to be over-spiced). Salads were simple and uninspired. Soups were creative (many chilled soups), but didn't live up to expectations. Desserts were hit and miss: the Chocolate lava cake was to die for, the rest were ok.
Room service was included, which we adored! Breakfast by the ocean, everyday. AMAZING!
Activities: The gym had great cardio equipment and an adequate collection of free weights. The universal had a few loose cables and could use a little TLC--- overall I was very satisfied. My wife loved the view form the gym---truly a treat---almost like working out on the beach. Snorkelling was great, we went three times, with an average of only 4 people each trip. Loved the fact fishing was included. Waterskiing did make for a noisy beach--could do without that one. Glad I didn't bring my putter, putting green was below par (haha).
Beach: Bravo! Two beaches, no crowds! plenty of hammocks and beach chairs. I especially enjoyed the ample shade provided by the plentiful palms.
Staff: Oneof the bests part of the resort! They really take pride in what they do. Particularly notable were: Lenroy (snorkelling guide), the fishing guides and the smiling maids who brought breakfast to our room every morning.
Wine tasting: This maddeningly deplorable experience deserves it's own section. For $60 US extra (per person), you get to taste two (yes, only two wines). The single red and white provided can only be described as "interesting"---a merlot blend and a little known italian white varietal. I was tempted to ask for a refund.
Guests: As mentioned by other reviewers, snobbish country club clique predominates, although we did some truly lovely folks. Howard and Chelle (owners) are ubiquitous at the resort and very down to earth--they always tried to make you feel at home. Would have liked to see fewer kids, but the resort was big enough (and the guests sparse enough) to avoid the little demons.
OVERALL: A few minor flaws (did I mention the wine tasting?), otherwise spectacular. Seems they have struck a perfect balance between big enough to provide ample activities and small enough to remain intimate. Looking forward to a return visit.
