Work had booked me into a faceless apartment hotel – where I had a room that felt (and looked) like a walk-in fridge. It gave me the creeps and I got up early to pack and move on.
The options were either the highly rated glamour pad at Cap Juluca (at a very good rate) or the family owned Ferry Boat Inn (at a very good price) – I wasn’t paying so didn’t base my decision on price alone but chose the FBI and have no regrets.
When I arrived Marjorie, the charismatic Trinidadian owner, came from the bar and showed me to my room (number 8 as referred to in the review below). It was huge – one bedroomed, two bathroomed, with large living and kitchen areas and a vast balcony. In London it would be cut up to have at least three bedrooms! There was a great view across the pretty grounds and beautiful beach to St Martin. By the beach was the small bar with a large kitchen serving delicious fresh food.
When I left (to go to St Martin as overall Anguilla is perhaps not the prettiest place to linger) Marjorie drove my luggage to the ferry (don’t let this put you off, it’s a fairly small boat that take foot passengers only – not a cross channel monster) and I was able to walk barefoot along the white sandy beach: a truly great way to end my memorable short stay there.
