This is the fifth family-run self-catering lodging I’ve stayed in in the Caribbean over the past 3 years. I’d been very pleased with the previous four, and compared with them, when I first saw my small one-bedroom at the inn, I thought I’d made a terrible mistake: laminate peeling off all cabinetry, cabinet doors that wouldn’t close, beat-up small appliances (except for a brand-new coffeemaker), walls in need of touch-up, broken window mechanism, terrace rails badly in need of refurbishing. The grounds and building exteriors could use some sprucing up and better maintenance, too.

But as the days went by, I came to appreciate the pluses: thick soft towels, spacious bathroom with large shower and excellent water pressure, good air conditioning in bedroom, very comfy mattress. Enjoyed being near the water (even though the view of St. Martin was over an ugly rooftop), and the modest beach is good for unwinding and a quick dip. The innkeeper thoughtfully provided some starter groceries that were much appreciated: bread, cheese, fruit, juice, water, and crackers. A huge perk is the inclusion of a beach umbrella, basic beach chairs, and a cooler. The location is very convenient to some of the island's most beautiful beaches, and the ferry is within walking distance.

I did get to see the large one-bedrooms, and they are something else entirely. Absolutely everything is in fine condition and quite attractive, and they offer Internet access. Even if you don’t need the extra space, spring for one of the big apartments. Unless you hear that the small ones have been renovated, I’d suggest staying away from them.

“simple and comfortable”

We spent over a week in one of the apartments and found the place to be a comfortable base from which to explore and enjoy Anguilla. There is nothing elaborate or fancy about the setup but the accommodation was spacious, clean (although a touch "weathered") and provided all the basics we needed for our stay at a reasonable price. Daily maid service (Stella is very nice and sweet) was an unexpected bonus. Touches like folding beach chairs, a beach umbrella, beach towels and a welcoming armful of fruit and snacks were very thoughtful.

The location is very convenient to the ferry - easily within walking distance. Thankfully, the sound of the ferry's engine, although audible, was barely noticeable and the beach just steps from the door made the property feel quite remote and quiet.

Marjorie, the proprietress, her family and staff are all very warm and try their utmost in a very laid back way to provide a comfortable stay. The one meal we had at the restaurant on the premises was tasty and the only reason we did not return was because there are too many food options to explore on the island and not enough time.

Marjorie can also set up a car rental from a nearby vendor: Connor's. We found the price was cheaper than the large name companies, the service was exceptional and the car was reliable.

A small warning NOT pertaining to the Ferryboat Inn: beware of questionable practices/"bait and switch" at Shoal Bay Scuba at Shoal Bay. There are a number of other dive shops around the island from which to rent equipment and set up dives and excursions. I would highly recommend using one of these other vendors.

DO check out Bananas by the Sea - Meads Bay, Gwen's - Shoal Bay, Big Jimmy's BBQ - by the ferry, and The English Rose - The Valley for yummy food.

With the one above-mentioned exception, Anguilla is a beautiful island with very friendly people, beautiful beaches, great food and the Ferryboat Inn is a nice place to call home for one's stay.

“Simple Bliss”

The Ferryboat Inn and Restaurant

Simple, blissful, relaxation, lapping blue water, cool breeze, fresh lobster, coke & rum...all served up with unhurried charm, by proprietress, Margorie , son Christian, and their small but efficient staff. Our cottage was, literally, perched just steps above the beach, where we started and ended each day, enjoying the view, and thankful that we had found this little gem. It was the most relaxed vacation we could have wished for.

We have just returned to the UK after a magical stay on Anguilla at the Ferryboat Inn. Partly, I want to keep the secret of this hotel to myself, because the joy of its simplicity lies in the lack of crowds, its unfussiness, and its small and happy team. it is family-run, and Marjorie and her son Christian do everything they can to make sure you are loving every minute of it, whilst leaving you as undisturbed as you wish. The food, in their local small restaurant is both simple and great- tasty home cooking. And the margaritas and rum punches hammer a mean blow. The beach is all your own., and steps away from each apartment. The view is divine. Value for money, -I'll say! Go,but don't tell your friends!

My husband and I have been to Anguilla 6 times. It was my 40th on Jan. 20th and there was no place I'd (we ) would rather be. We have been on both ends of the island, in villas with friends, and last yr at Rendezvous Bay . This was a one of the best times on island. Marjorie didn't think we'd make it , we called her the afternoon before we left Fargo N.D. We walked form the Ferry , down the road right to Ferryboat Inn. Marjorie greeted us , showed us the 2 bdrm villa and we loved it. Met Christain, her son, and some other relatives thru our stay, Had the best view of St. Martin, did not hear the boats , woke every morning thinking "I really hate having to go home, ....again". Had the BEST BURGER ON THE ISLAND!!! And the best steak!!! And one plus many more Grey Goose martini's. We would like to say " thank you" to the family (watch out for Captain Jack) for making my 40th the best and we will be back. Like I said we have been to island 6 times, Ferryboat Inn offers great privacy , spectacular view and great food and friends.
Thanks Marjorie and Christain!!
