One reviewer on this site claimed if "you don't lilke Cap Juluca you must be insane." Well lock me up and hand me the thorazine. I am no jet setter, but have travelled and stayed in the best and worst of Greece, the UK, Paris, Serbia, Columbia, and the list does go on. I have stayed in places big shots live large, and slept on a flat board with a stale cigarette smoke as a blanket in eastern Europe. That being said, I have learned to roll with the punches in different situations. But, when you start putting down the big bucks, you expect a little something in return.

Cap Juluca is not a good return on your investment. You are treated to lots of smiles and nonsense, but if you want "anything," forget it.

Here is a list of the good and the bad:
the good-
1) Cap Juluca does have an outstanding beach, beautiful water
2) the room was very nice
3) the staff that cleaned the rooms do a great job
4) a very nice gym to workout

The bad-
1) want a drink at the bar? you may want to learn how to distill your own hooch instead.
I believe that a good bartender is as important as a good lawyer, doctor, and priest, and if you are a big drinker (and I am), look elsewhere. I am a good tipper, but that seemed to have no effect.
2) Want good food? IT IS NOT HERE! I was completely dissappointed in the food at Georges and Pimms. I've had better food at cheesy Amercian brass and fern resturants than Cap Juluca. When you plant 300+ for a meal, it better make a good impression.
3) I could care less about celebreties. Staff members would tell me about different hollywood types who come there, and I am thinking "why are they telling me this, and what makes them think I care?"
4) want room service for you and your main squeeze, have FedEx send it. Here is an example: we decided to order some food and a bottle of wine from Georges. A year later the food arrived. The guy doesn't even open the bottle of red wine for us, but no matter, he had no wine glasses. He returns another year later with champagne glasses for red wine. Now that may be trivial to many readers, but as I said before, pay big bucks, get good service. If I wanted to drink ripple wine straight from the screwtop bottle, I'll do that for two dollars and stay at a Hotel Six in Jersey City.

Maybe I sound like the ugly American. Well, I'm not much to look at, but I am a good guy. I never send food back, I rarely treat service people like servants, and always tip, and usually more than 20 percent. I have been on the receiving end in the food service world, so it's hard for me to be gruff to staff. All I ask is for courteous service (not butt kissing), and a decent time frame for my gubb. If there is a problem, I will understand, just inform me as a courtesy.

It really does come down to investment when travelling, especially in this area of the globe. I know that the staff of most places at the islands are laid back to the point of being a little rude, but this was ridiculous. Put your money down, get a good return. I still think with some sort of decent mangement, this resort could be truly first class.

Just a side note, if you want to have a good time stay at the Ladera in St. Lucia, or go way back up north and stay at the Ariel Sands in Bermuda. Both good investments with happy returns.

Cap Jaluca was a wonderful resort!!!After reding many reviews before we left,I was skeptical that we had made the right resort choice.We stayed in a junior suite which was beautiful.Openimg the huge doors to look out to see the most beautiful water and beaches was incredible.The service was excellent.Whenever we asked for anything ,it was always taken care of in a timely fashion.I would agree with other reviews that the beach barbeque was not worth the money.There are so many other restaurants on the island to eat.We ate at Mangos which was great.We would definetely rent a car next time as the taxis are very expensive and the rates go up at night.We got room service alot since we were exhausted after being on the beach all day.It was great to eat on the terrace outside.It was expensive but all the food at the resort is.We went over to Cuisinart and ate a late lunch one afternoon to check out the resort.It was beautiful however it seemed crouded.At cap it never seemed crouded at all.I would not reccomend taking children there.It is completely a romantic ,quiet ,private place.We have five teenagers and we probably would take them to cuisinart.I agree that scicily cay is a tourist trap.The whole day was soooooooo expensive.There are other places.We went to Smokeys for lunch and heard an awesome reggae band.The service was slow however the food and band made it worth it.We will go back to Cap Jaluca!

We travelled to Anguilla and stayed at Cap Juluca for a week at the end of April. We really loved the resort and loved the island. We have stayed at other five-star category resorts and I would argue at any one of them you can find a few little things to criticize nothing's perfect. I would tend to think "my little things" are due to recent changes in mgmt at C.J.

Rooms
We stayed in a junior luxury suite which was great. We especially loved the large bathroom and outdoor solarium in back. Nothing better than taking a shower looking at the beautiful blue sky. We also loved the huge terrace. We used air conditioning at night but during day opened everything and it was great. The housekeeping was wonderful. Always done timely, plenty of towel and everything clean. NEVER saw one bug of any kind in our room

Beach
One of the most beautiful we've ever seen. We rented car one day and stopped at most beaches. While there are many beautiful ones I think Cap Juluca's is best. The chairs/umbrellas are spaced apart so you never are near anyone. The service on the beach while we were there was great. Also had plenty of blue floats available which were so great to just lie in that beautiful turqoise water.

Food
Biggest disappointment was quality of the breakfast food at George's. We had lunch 2 times and that was pretty good. Didn't think the Beach BBQ at George's was that great either. Service at breakfast first half of week was pathetic-beyond island time but I think they were way short handed. It got better by second half of week. Service at lunch was fine. We ate at Pimm's twice and that was really good and service fine. Also ate at Kemia one night which was also good and real good service. We ate at Blanchard, Mango's and Altamar and Blanchard's was the best meal of the week.

Other Services
Had a couples massage on terrace which was wonderful. The concierge was another issue. Of all positions at a resort this should be one that is given to a friendly helpful person. We primarily dealt with one that was not at all service oriented. For what you pay at resort you would think you at least deserve a message back in room confirming the things you ask the concierge for. Never received any of that. One time later in week there was a women there who was alittle bit friendlier. Spa concierge was great.
Went on snorkel trip to Prickley Pear and Little Bay which was a great trip and well organized. Lunch provided was good and plenty of beverages.

Island
We just really loved the island. Got a rental car one day which was handled fine and enjoyed going around to all the different beaches. We ate lunch at Gwens which was fun. We took the public ferry over from SXM both arriving and departing. Both times got the older ferries where you sit down low and are closed in. Both times it was very crowded. Wouldn't want to do that when water was rough. But it is all worth it in the long run. I would maybe look into the Sea Shuttle next time.

Yes, we will go back to Anguilla and most likely to Cap Juluca depending on what the future holds for the resort.

Cap Juluca is a nice place with several glaring shortcomings. While the villas are nice, clean, and very well cared for...you can get a lot more for quite a bit less at neighboring resorts. Our room averaged about $650/night and was located on one of the most gorgeous stretches of beach you've ever seen. The property had tons of palm trees and provided for a very nice setting. The issues were: exceedingly slow service (beyond being just on 'island time') and very average food quality from their main day-service restaurant (George's). We were alson surprised that Cap Juluca had no spa. You can get a massage in your room, but that's it. As a comparison, Cuisinart Resort was less than $500/night, very very floral landscaping, hydroponic vegetables grown organically for their restaurants and their infinity pool reaches out to the same beautiful beach I described above. You just never know until you go - we spent our honeymoon in Cap Juluca....it was a fantastic trip. Had we looked around and researched a little more....it would have been a Cuisinart trip for us. The island offers a ton of tremendous restaurants (Blanchards, Mangoes, Bananas...all very expensive Scilly Cay is a tourist trap...skip it. Save some money for lunch at Uncle Ernie's or Gwen's Raggae Bar)
