First of all, we are a well travelled French Canadian couple in our late 40's who was looking for a quiet getaway. Stayed 2x2 nights at Ambia prior to and after our cruise that departed from St-Maarten in Feb 2013. Initially looked at staying in st. Martin but could not find anything we liked. Once we realized that taking the ferry to Anguilla was so easy (you can take more expensive private ferries from airport or cheaper public ferry from Marigot), we decided to look for hotels in Anguilla. Anguilla is a fairly expensive place with high end resorts such Cuisinart, Viceroy and Cap Juluca charging over $1000/night. Looked at the B&B choices and saw the positive reviews on Ambia and contacted them via email. Booking was simple. They came and picked us up at the ferry and had a rental car waiting at the hotel the following morning (which we would then drop off at ferry, very convenient). Although not on the beach, location is very central with any beach no more than a 10-15 minute drive (you definitely want to rent a car $40/day plus one time $20 charge for driving permit, driving on left is not a problem as there is little traffic unlike St.Martin) The property is recent having been built 4 years ago. Rooms (only 4) are good size, contemporary in style and very comfortable with great views overlooking Sandy Ground. There is a large common living room with flat screen TV (only one room has TV) telephone with free long distance calls to North America and DVD player. There is a small infinity plunge pool and the resort has free wifi. Magda, Lorne and Sandra are always available for info on best beaches ( Shoal Bay East, Rendez Vous Bay, Cove Bay, Crocus Bay, Meads Bay are all great) restaurants and things to do. Breakfasts are excellent with essentially anything you want from fruits, yogurt, eggs, bacon, cereal and amazing french toast. There is a nice restaurant right next to the property (Tasty's) and there are several other good ones in Sandy Ground (a 5 mins drive) such as Dolce Vita and Sand Bar (great tapas selection). The island is know for its great beach shacks (Blanchards, Da Vida, Dunes Preserve). If you're looking for a nice quiet place on a great island with great beaches, great food at a decent price, then Ambia is for you. You can also rent the whole resort as a villa
