“Villa Lante”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

The most romantic Renaissance garden in Italy, of a size one can relate to and of supreme beauty, and a place to dream.

“Rainy visit at this rare garden”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

On a saturday afternoon I drove by myself for about an hour to Viterbo.
I was told that Villa Lante is/was one of the most beautiful garden of Italy.
Yes, it is...........very old and a bit neglected (that's also the beauty of it)
Hard to find though, not much signs. I found the place by accident.
It was interesting to see it with so much rain.......and: it didn't matter.
Not a place where you can sit down in a nice café, there was a small 'self service' counter,
a disappointment.

“This is a wonderful and easily doable "formal" garden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

Designed and built 500 years ago it has used many water features (copied) from Villa D'Este in Tivoli. One can do the whole place in under 2 hours which means it can be a morning or afternoon activity. As with many attractions in the small towns of Italy, parking can be a challenge.

“Magnificent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

You'd be hard pressed to find a more stunning garden than Villa Lante. Levels of themed garden creat an extraordinary experience. Knowing some background ahead of time, will help one to appreciate the context for everything. For instance, within the garden is a most amazing outdoor dining table, complete with central babbling stream. Bagnaia is a small town off the beaten path of tourism, but has it's charms. Be sure to visit the old town across the piazza at the foot of the hill leading to Villa Lante (through the gate of the walls). Inside is a charming little village of medieval homes and narrow streets.

“Floating waters and elegant fences”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Villa Lante (Villa Lante a Bagnaia in Viterbo) is a great place to see how you can use water in the garden (well, of course you have to have VERY much money to build something like this). Villa Lante is almost as grandiose as Villa d´Este in Tivoli, but here you can relax much better, because Lante isn´t so popular than d´Este.
The garden rises in steps and "the uppermost level" is the most intimate part of the garden.
You can visit the garden, but not the Villa (private).
