“Friendly atmosphere, spotlessly clean, fast service, but meagre portions”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

Visited the Oriel cafe with my husband on a Thursday lunchtime, ordered coffee and 2 cheese and tomato toasties. The service was fast, and the young girl serving very friendly and efficient, and the cafe was spotless. However the portions were disappointingly meagre, there was hardly any discernible cheese between the bread. The salad was below par also. Cannot comment on any other food, as this is our only visit, and would not choose to eat here again.

“What a joy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

A first time visitor to Cwmbran, I consulted Tripadvisor to find somewhere a little different to meet a friend for coffee. What a pleasure it was, and only minutes away from the bustle of the shopping centre A warm welcome waited as soon as we went through the door. Lovely coffee, served in pretty china. No rush or stress. So good was it, that we braved the rain for a hour's shopping then went back for lunch . The menu is light - soups, salads, paninis etc, but freshly prepared , and sandwiches served with a generous and varied side salad . The Arts centre itself is lovely. My only suggestion , which is utterly personal, is that only savoury scones were on offer- I would have quite liked a scone and jam with my morning coffee. However, the delightful waitress did offer an excellent alternative in the form of a toasted teacake with its own little pot of jam. Hats off for initiative! To be recommended.

“PLEASE GET THE BASICS RIGHT?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

My second review - still good - but no bread? Oriel serves a basic range of food to a very high standard but, on this occasion? No baguette and had run out of some fillers...and at 12.50 pm. Sorry, should have the basics in place. Anyone can do a basic sandwich at home but we wanted something a little different, hence the fact that we were at Oriel with great expectations! Sadly, on this occasion, Oriel didn't deliver the goods! Here's to next time (as it's still a great little cafe!).

“This truly is a 'Hidden Gem'”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2012

The Oriel is a fabulous little cafe, serving wonderful light lunches and home-made delights. - all in the lovely surroundings of Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre. Great food (soups, salads, paninis, savoury scones, together with scrumptious cakes and good cofee etc). Didn't really want to share this information as I don't want it to get so popular that I can't find a lunchtime seat but, hey, they deserve to be better known.
Well worth finding - maybe ask Cwmbran Shopping for a few more prominent signposts to the wonderful little place?
