“EXCELLENT Resort for relaxing and taking in the beauty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

I would HIGHLY recommend the Ocean Gate Resort to anyone! My Godmother and I went up for 3 nights 4 days. I am a professional photographer so the view was breath-taking from our balcony! Pricing for an October stay couldn't have been better. Accommodations couldn't have been better if we were in a 5 star. I wasn't sure what to expect and was blown away. The landscaping is top notch. If you are not sitting on your balcony overlooking the harbor there is plenty of seating at the top of the hill overlooking everything! There are canoes, kayaks, and so much more to enjoy at this resort. Obviously too cool to use the outdoor pool, but the full breakfast included was superb! Close to everything and just up the hill from the best restaurant in the area I thought, Robinson's Warf is a must visit! Minutes for at least two lighthouses and close to booth bay. Everyone running the resort were your new best friend! You won't be disappointed if you book a wonderful stay at the OCEAN GATE RESORT!

Room Tip: Anything at this hotel is great. The balconies are private so that is a plus! There were families...

We stayed in the the building down by the water...great view but that was about it.
Room needed updating, sheets were terrible, green indoor outdoor carpet on the small balcony, took about 15 minutes to get hot water...the brown carpet in the room looked like it had been there since the 1970's....I would say the staff was lovely and the location was great, room just needed a lot of updating....

Thank you for your comments about your recent visit with us. I'm glad that you found our staff to be friendly and accommodating and that you enjoyed our spectacular view and location. The rooms in the Waterfront building have actually been recently renovated so I'm at a loss as to your disappointments in that regard. In fact, all new premium quality sheets and bath towels were purchased just this season to complement the new top of the line Beauty Rest pillow top mattresses and 40" Flat screen televisions that were installed last fall. I do agree that we experienced a recent problem with one of our boilers (whose pilot had gone out) which allowed cold water to mix with the hot water, resulting in less than adequate temperature. We corrected that problem however, immediately upon discovery. On your next visit, you might try one of our other newly renovated rooms in the Cedar or Ocean Ridge buildings. You may find the decor more to your liking as each building has it's own distinct personality. Waterfront is always popular due to it's proximity to the waters edge but the other buildings offer similar commanding views of the ocean and islands. We hope to see you again in the future.

Best Regards,

We booked this resort as part of our honeymoon road trip around the east coast and couldn't have been happier.
The views from our room were incredible and we took so many pictures.
The staff were really friendly and courteous and the resort was immaculate. The breakfast was typical American fair with sausage, eggs and all the bread based products you'd like.
The facilities were great, we especially enjoyed our canoe trip and crazy golf.
I can't really think of any criticisms but in the spirit of a balanced review I'll say.....
The coffee at breakfast was a little weak....
A fantastic venue. Try and get room 128, the best views.

Oh it's only a short drive into boothbay harbour a real must see quaint harbour village

Room Tip: Ask for 128

This is a wonderful place to stay for a Maine experience-local lobster boats pass by in the morning-lots of birds and just the feeling of being near the sea. The bed was sooo comfortable and the morning brunch was full of anything you could want for breakfast. Definitely going to return.

Room Tip: A room with a view of the harbor is a must.

Stayed here for the first time for a week this past August and loved it. My husband and two teenage sons enjoyed the kayacking and canoeing and just hanging out. I loved the beautiful views and quiet time just to relax and read. Cabin was clean with two bathrooms, a very well equipped kitchen and a large screened-in back porch with a water view. Housekeeping came everyday and not only replenished the towels and made the beds but fully cleaned every room (vacuuming, mopping). An included breakfast was very good with a choice of eating inside or outside. Wednesday lobster bake was over the top! Grounds are very well kept. This is not a loud bustling resort but rather a quiet, "take the time to relax" place. Its a short drive to Boothbay Harbor which has an abundance of restaurants and shops and available harbor cruises you can take. The only (!) negative is that there weren't enough kayaks available; they were very popular and too few.

Ocean Gate is a wonderful resort. Location on the water is beautiful. The breakfast offers all items, both hot and cold. The breakfast room is overseen by a happy gentleman who makes himself available to guests needing sightseeing ideas. This is our fourth year to stay and hopefully can come again next year.

Who says Disneyworld has to be the "Happiest Place on Earth"? The Ocean Gate Resort is MY Happiest Place! When planning our trip to Maine, I was a little nervous to book outside of my "Marriott Hotels Comfort Zone". Driving up to the resort down the very secluded and heavily wooded road, I was pleasantly surprised to find a well maintained and beautifully landscaped resort. BIG sigh of relief!

The gal in the office was extremely friendly and pleasant, and actually walked us back outside to show us how to drive to our side of the resort. I was very impressed that she didn't just draw it on our map and point "turn over there". IMPRESSIVE!

The trail to our room was a little tricky to manuever our luggage over the steps etc, but we now know to pack lighter for our return visit. Walking into our water-front room, we were both highly impressed by the VERY spacious and EXCEPTIONALY clean room. The view was superb and we couldn't take ourselves away from the private balcony. PEACE AND QUIET!

I am not a "buffet lover", but I have to say, the breakfast provided was quite nice. Everything from fruit, yogurt, 2 types of eggs, biscuits/gravy, and cereals. Plenty of choices for brekfast lovers and non!

We didn't take advantage of the on-site activities, but I am sure if you stay here for more than 2 days, they definitely are a great idea for families and such.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with local directions and ideas of things to see/do. We had no idea some of the things we were hoping to see were so close to the resort! Once you are in the resort, you feel like you're worlds away from the hustle and bustle, but you are only a short drive away from the Boothbay shopping/dining areas and a very short distance to lighthouses and a small beach.

I can not wait to bok my return trip, and I am 100% confident that I will book this resort again!
