“Basic beach/sun and nightlife holiday..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2009

We went (4 adults) mid September. The rooms are very basic but adequate...we only showered and slept there. You have to be pro-active with the cleaning routine, don't expect towels/sheets/bins done unless you put a ticket on the door..this was NOT explained by staff. Its not the cleanest hotel (apart from the public area) and the whole place is shabby and needs updating...that said..its a 2 star hotel so we knew it wouldn't be the Ritz! The staff didn't make any fuss of us, but then we were hardly there. 'Breakfast' is to be avoided unless you are already a street dweller and survive at soup kitchens. We used it for a cup of tea 1st thing on a moning and the same crushed egg and bits of tomato were round the tables for 2 weeks. The staff could do with squirt of Lynx too. The hotel location is good..near everything and we wern't bothered by noise on the street side..maybe because it was later in the season? There are loads of great places to eat..the fillet steaks are to die for (approx 20-25 lira - £10 for a genereous portion including salad and chips/potato's)..we never had a bad meal ..I would recommend Family Door for food ,atmosphere and lovely service. The bars at the Dolphin Square end are more geared to the younger person..lots of 'street dance' groups in every bar , which is a bit much night after night. We liked the bars and resraurants at the other end better..music that we knew and not so loud! The main beach at Altinkum is the filthiest I have ever sat on...each time we hired a sunbed (12 lira for 2 with a brolly) we had to spend 10 minutes flicking a million fag ends, bottle tops and plastic bags out of the way...gruesome. Why on earth they don't clean the beach is a mystery.. surely they can see how awful it is? We had a massive storm one day and we watched the main town sewer overflow into the sea where we sat..and there were still parents letting kids play in it...eeek! Its nice to walk to the new marina..take water as its isolated. I can't praise highy enough the staff at the Big Nose Bar near the Nazar...tooooo funny, those lads made our holiday..they work goodness knows how many hours for peanuts and make sure all their customers are treated like genuine mates..well done! All in all..I would not return to Altinkum and would only recommend the Nazar if you are skint or after a very basic last minute deal! This sounds mean as we knew when we booked it was 2* but I think some of the reviews were a bit misleading . Altinkum is basically a beach holiday resort with ok nightlfe for no longer than a fortnight.

We have just returned from the Nazar Hotel and would first of all like to say how wonderful all the staff were. We travelled with my Father who is 93 yrs old and all the staff were absuloutely fantastic and couldn't have been more helpful.
I must say though that the roads in the area are really not for people with walking difficulties...cobbled streets. and the transfer coach stops at the top of the road and not outside the hotel so be aware .Also there is is quite a bit of noise from the 2 bars next door so try and book a room on the poolside and not the front of the Hotel.
But taking all this into account the service from all the staff completely made up for this and we cannot praise them highly enough.
So if you're going to the Nazar please say Hi to James, Jake, Aykut, John, Christopher, Arken and Mehmet on Reception from
Carole, Dave and most of all GG.
Have a great holiday.

Good Basic Hotel. Room clean, if you want your bin emptied every day, just put the ticket on the door or it will not be done, I am talking about the toilet one! Although there was infact, no other bin in the room, so we made a little pile of rubbish in the corner when we left, as there was no where else to put it! During out stay we just bagged it and put in in the bins outside!
Only really bad point is that the main sewer runs right by the hotel, so as soon as we walked up to the main door with our cases, the smell hit us! Sitting around the pool if the wind is in the wrong direction can also be a rather stinky experience, and not very pleasant.
Staff hard working and polite, but you do have to nag for a couple of days if you want anything done, like clean towels! (Took 3 days)
If you like tomato, cucumber, cheese, olives and cake, then you will love the breakfast, every day, no change! Cheap enough to eat out, so I would do just that!
Altinkum is quite quiet, but I would avoid July & August as that the Turkish holidays and it was FULL to bursting with Turkish families, who never made you feel particularly welcome, and also the beach, which is beautiful, was so full, you could not even see the sand!

Great little hotel and in a great location. Never had any problems with the staff and found them to be very helpfull. The room was fine, afterall, the only thing you do in there is sleep or shower, and the food was very good. Loved the breakfast!

It was a little noisy on the night as our room was right next door to a bar and the room would benifit from a fan of some sort but apart from that i thought the place was great.

A few other things: The barman/teacher across the road was a great guy and very friendly, not a creep like some mentioned.
As for taking disinfectant out with you on a night because "turks are touchy feely" is idiotic.
The turkish bath down the street is a must. We went twice.

I would stay in the hotel again but i would not stay in altinkum due to it being a bit dull. (it has no real sites, history, culture. Its just holiday homes, hotels and bars.)

Please lets get this hotel into context. If peolple book at the cheaper end of the market then dont expect a 5 star holiday. Some people really p me off , moaning all the time. Fact - Nazar is a clean , neat but basic hotel. Fact - The vast majority of the staff are excellant. James is a star.
Turks are touchy feely but friendly but i arrived home yesterday from Altinkum and i saw many more ignorant brits tha Turks. We could learn a few lessons from them.

Summary - Altinkum is a typical Turkish town but a great holiday place. Big nose bar , kiss bar , dolphin square bar all super nights. Nicholas's did the best t bone steak ever. Nicks place offered lovely 3 course set meals for 20 lira (£8-£9).Dont let the whingers put you off , hopefully they will go elsewhere from now on.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Nazar. The Nazar is ok if you are looking for a cheap holiday. We found the staff arrogant and unhelpful. We arrived in the early hours of the morning and was greeted by the helpful young man behind the counter who's first words were "you bring food or drink into the hotel and i keep it" what a way to welcome guests.
The rooms are basic and the bathroom even worse, When you use the shower it floods the whole floor making it a death trap as the floor is tiled (my daughter slipped a few times).
You are expected to put toilet paper in the bin and not down the toilet, but when they provide you with bins with no lids and empty them every 3 days as you can imagine the smell is not the best.
Their are no tea making facilities in the rooms so would recommend if you go to smuggle a travel kettle in with you.
The pool area is clean although there is a lack of umbrellas. i counted 3 so if you want one you need to get there early. The happy management at the Nazar allow the local teenagers to use the pool and basically they do what they want, they take sunbeds, take peoples inflatables which usually end up deflated and broke yet we the paying costumer were not allowed to bring a bottle if water into the hotel. Next to the pool is a sewerage works which you can reguarly smell.Nice!
We never eat at the hotel stay away from Nicks Place directly in front of the nazar there is a broken drain right outside and the smell takes your breath away also Nicholas to the left of the Nazar be careful of him as he tries charging you for drinks you never have.
I highly recommend Big Bens, pinocchio's and the Victoria all on the front we stuck mainly to these,
In general the Nazar is a great location only 2 min walk to beach and all the restaurants and clubs this probably the best thing about this hotel i would not go for longer than a week and staff there need to learn more manners and learn how to crack a smile.
Would recommend this holiday for budget holiday makers.

been going to the nazar now twice a year for 12 years now. survived the change from SC to BB no problem. We have had the pleasure of seeing many of the staff progress from being just kids to manhood through their army training and returning the fold of to the hotel. Now that the hotel has changed to B & B we know most of our friends who have stayed at the Nazar year upon year have now left and decided to stay elsewhere (MUTLU for e.g ).Well put it this way, they always come and visit us but we never go and visit them (wherever they are) i.e. next door !!!!!!!. As for the bag checking, that's a load of crap (false verifaction!!) we may have a crap mini-bar in our room and no fridge but we have a friendship and what more do you need ------------------ice for my wife's sore neck-----------fresh stuff none of that frozen rubbish !!!!! in a tall glass please - - good to go !
see u guys 12th sept - dort sufur sekiz insallah
