“Great first time visit to Palm Grove”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

We spent 26 nights at Palm Grove in Rarotonga. The property is so clean and well taken care of. Restaurant has excellent service with a friendly smiling staff always received excellent service. Food was great also. Reception was always there to help. Thanks for the great vacation loved our little cabin can't wait to go back! Was not disappointed in anything but the rain :( thanks Joanne, Betsy and the many people that make Palm Grove a great place to escape and enjoy the beach and snorkelling worry free.

My wife and I decided to visit the Cook Islands in April 2012, but had to wait eight long months to actually visit, arriving on New Year's Eve. Boy, was it worth the wait! Palm Grove is situated in a quiet, relaxing part of the island of Rarotonga, on the (mostly) sunny south side of the island. We stayed in B7, a beachfront bungalow, and were not disappointed at all. The views were just breathtaking. We enjoyed many days just hanging out on the deck, reading, and just listening to the ocean break in the background. The beach was very clean, as was the water.

Palm Grove has many positives, including a nice tropical breakfast buffet, wonderful & helpful staff, clean rooms, a full kitchen, and its location on the south side means it is relatively quiet. The staff at the desk arranged for a one-day car rental, and with a late check out on day of departure. Some things to keep in mind at Palm Grove, or anywhere on Rarotonga. are the "wild" dogs and chickens, and the Myna birds. They are for the most part friendly, but they do bark and crow. In room B7, though, we never were awakened by any of the animals in the early morning. The local wildlife did not bother us a bit, but I am mentioning it for everyone's knowledge.

Palm Grove has such a nice atmosphere that it feels much like home. We definitely have a place to return to when we can make it back to the Cook Islands. Betsy and Joanne have done an excellent job with this place--keep it up!

Room Tip: Rooms on the beach side are quieter.

The Cook Islands have a wonderful laid back attitude to life and this was evident at the Palm Grove. Rooms were good and functional with cooking facilities and a terrace where the chickens would come round.
We upgraded for a few nights to a beach bungalow and these are large with all the usual facilities much better than the other rooms on the other side of the road. Breakfasts were pretty average and you have to pay extra for a hot breakfast, I developed a taste for Veggiemite as everything else was too sweet. The grounds are kept beautiful and the groundsmen are forever sweeping up and tidying the area.
The beach is stunning and water as clean as any I have seen in the world.
There is not much around apart from a restaurant about 10 mins walk and Wigmores Supermarket where you can stock up on all sorts of goodies. The hotel restaurant is very good as well and the manager is extremely efficient and would be an asset to any establishment.
If you get the chance visit the Island Cultural show up in the hills behind it really is worth the money.

Jump on the local bus and see the island one goes clockwise and the other anticlockwise, the main town has shops and restaurants but closes fairly early as most people eat in the hotels. We saw Skyfall at the local flicks there and it was fun as the locals take their food in with them and enjoy burgers and chips !!!!

My partner and I visited Rarotonga Dec 2012 after planning this vacation for about 6 months. We originally wanted to visit late Oct early Nov but the Palm Grove beach villas were fully booked. I'm so glad we delayed our vacation as we had the best location on the island, we visited the other beaches and can without a doubt say that the Palm Grove beach was the best.

If you're looking for luxury this isn't the place for you, it was very good, nice and clean, great breakfast and food at the Yellow Hibiscus Resaurant over the road.

The continental breakfast was enough for us each morning, plenty of fruit, toast and cereal. I was tempted by the French toast and pancakes.

If you're considering Palm Grove for you holiday to Rarotonga, book it, you won't be dissapointed.

TIPS:
Don't leave any food out and clear up after you've prepared anything or the ants WILL find it.
Make sure you're up and ready by 8am as room service visits early.
Don't pet the cat, it will meow outside your door most of the night. Lesson learnt.
Book evening meals in advance, either go in there at lunchtime or get the reception to phone ahead for you.
I'm a motorcycle tour guide so I had to grab a scooter, you can get more done with your own wheels, just take it easy, ride at 40kmh, look out for loose dogs and gravel.
Don't prat around on the scooters or it WILL hurt when you come off.

Room Tip: The beach front units were excellent, we stayed on the right as you look out to sea, but if you stay...

We came here as part of our honeymoon. After a disappointing couple of nights in Muri beach we moved to Palm Grove for an unforgettable experience in absolute paradise! We stayed in a beachfront bungalow which sits on a private beach. There are so many positives here its hard to remember them all! Examples include friendly, accomodating and helpful staff, really comfortable accomodation with cooking facilities, complementary kayaks and snorkelling gear which were easily accessible for use anytime, free wine, beer and entertainment on a Friday night, local shop within easy walking distance, peaceful stunning beach, amazing snorkelling (really fantastic), fresh coconuts which the groundskeeper opened for us, stunning sunsets and so on! I also enjoyed seeing all of the local birds and animals, there are lots of pet dogs, chickens, crabs etc. I cannot emphasise enough how wonderful this place is and I really hope to return to Palm Grove one day.

We stayed in a one bedroom superior room. It seemed quite new. Nice and modern with a separate lounge. All the furniture was nice and new. It was very clean and tidy. It was fully self contained. The bathroom was large with good pressure in the shower. There is no safe but a box with a lock on it in the cupboard.

It had a nice little verandah out the back with a portable clothes line. There is a laundry which costs $3 a load including powder.

The grounds were nicely kept. The pool was nice and clean. Not large but big enough to lie next to and have a dip.

Most of the rooms are away from the road so we had no road noise. I must admit it was nice to have the air conditioner for sleeping as we didn't get much of a breeze being back from the beach.

You can snorkel straight off the beach. When it got windy we just hopped on the bus and found another spot.

The food is great and we ate there a couple of times. Quite reasonably priced. They have happy hour on a Friday night with live music. Really good.

I really liked the location. There weren't a lot of people around. It had everything you needed and was only a bus ride into town.

We came for a family trip...10 of us on December 17 for two weeks! We stayed in the 3 bedroom and two garden bungalows. They were all nice and clean. Our towels were changed daily and the rooms tidied up. The beds were soooo comfortable!!! Better than home! The staff was very helpful and kind. We loved the breakfasts with toast, muffins (sometimes), cereals and fresh fruit. Friday from 4:30-6 was free drinks happy hour for the guests. We ate at the Yellow Hibiscus three times for dinner...once was the Christmas buffet...mmmm... The beach out front is wonderful! Snorkiling and kayaking so fun! There is Wi-fi that you can pay for to use in hot spots. I found the best spot was under the cabana at the pool. You can walk to the market and a little latte place up the road. We rented a mini van and two scooters. The scooters were great! And don't leave the island without doing the cross-island hike. Favorite part of my trip! There are dogs, cats and chickens all over the island...we loved it! The roosters wake you up in the morning, but that was okay because we wanted to get in as much playtime as possible! Be sure to catch the snorkelling at Muri Beach and go to a Christian church service...the music is incredible! Thank you Palm Grove for a great, relaxing and fun stay!
