“Relaxing stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

Spent 2 nights here with my wife to spend time at Kew gardens and a visit to London.
The hotel was excellent, very friendly staff, nice rooms with good furnishings.
A great location on Kew green and a nice veranda to watch the world go by.
The food was very good.
An excellent bar and library room to relax in. Free wi fi.
10 minute walk to Kew gardens, the same to Kew underground, no need to use a car.
The hotel has good parking.
I would highly recommend this hotel.

Quiet hotel, bar was nice with sports on tv. Service was not rushed and food was good. Staff were friendly. Location was excellent for Kew gardens. Secure parking was available. On the flight line for Heathrow but didn't find that there was disturbing noise levels.
Good selection of wines available.

I stayed here (thankfully) for only one night on a recent trip to London.

The positives
Quaint little place. The rooms are above the pub, which makes it convenient if you want to literally go down stairs for a pint. (It would be nice if they were a Fuller's pub rather than Young's, but that is a different story). The location is great for the Richmond/Kew area, as it is located right on Kew Green. (Fairly convenient if you are heading to Heathrow). The food was also decent and a step above typical pub grub.

The negatives
The rooms are very small and they could spruce them up a bit. However, the main issue (and the reason why they don't get a higher rating in my book) is the mattress. It was by far the worst mattress that I've experienced in recent trips. I was not expecting luxury, but a proper mattress (rather than a springy box with a thin layer on top) is a minimum requirement.

If I was looking for a place to and absolutely needed a decent night, I probably would stay somewhere else.

A cracking location, looks like recently refurbished too. Whilst most of the areas look to be of a reasonable standard there was a lack of attention to detail to the final finish. The bar area is pleasant and the outside seating areas to the front have good views over the green.
The breakfast was generaly good however the service was a bit hit and miss. We also had dinner and bar food. The bar food was good but the evening meal was not. The price charged for evening meal suggest a higher quality of food than was served.
Dealing with most of the staff had the Fawlty Towers element, we were paying guests but were not always left feeling that way, we were not always made to feet as though we were welcome more of an inconvenience.
Very handy for visiting Kew gardens

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the front have best view

We were visiting the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew and selected the Coach & Horses from the internet as it was close and there was a reasonable deal on offer. The hotel was welcoming, with the owner, Nick, on hand to make sure all guests were being well looked after. Our room was not massive, but certainly large enough, with all the expected amenities. It was at the front of the hotel, but the double glazing meant there was no traffic noise. There was a lift, but it was a little difficult lugging our two suitcases up a small, steep staircase to the level where our room was situated.

A full cooked breakfast was included and was of good quality. We also ate a lunch and dinner during our stay, and our only criticism was that some of the food we ordered was not particularly good value for money. This was mainly about serving sizes - the quality of the food was OK.

One other thing that people might find useful to know is that the hotel is about 800 metres from the Kew railway station. We arrived in the early afternoon and as there were no taxis at the station, we had to walk to the hotel with our luggage.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 216 which was larger than some of the other rooms in the hotel.

rooms excellent, breakfast well serviced in a very nicely decorated space. Bar and outside sitting area comfortable with nice action of Kew area. Excellent location for Kew Gardens visit0- and worth a visit. Secure car parking, though plenty on street too

Room Tip: our room was fab, no lift to top floor though if you need that, stay lower

What a lovely, lovely hotel !! We stay in London regularly and on this occasion went to a concert at Kew Gardens so chose this hotel for that reason. However it is more than just a convenient hotel for Kew Gardens as the Underground is close by, so gives easy access to all of London's attractions. The Coach & Horses is an hotel/pub but the hotel is as good as any stand alone establishment. Its certainly an oasis of calm in frantic London and the local area is beautiful for a stroll around Kew Green, Kew Gardens or along the Thames.
The rooms are superb!
The food is top notch gastro pub fayre! If the barbecues on then try the ribs (best we've ever had).
The pub is a joy (not a sterile hotel bar) and seems to attract a very pleasant clientele.
There's a lovely alfresco area at the front or a 'secret', secluded garden at the rear.
There's secure underground car parking ON SITE, which is rare in London
The staff we met were well trained, intelligent and very helpful.

I can't say that my previous hotel stays in London have always been good value for money but the Coach & Horses certainly delivers on that score.
WELL DONE TO STAFF AND MANAGEMENT. AN EXCELLENT HOTEL DELIVERING THE BEST OF BRITISH !!!
