4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2014

I am glad I went during off-peak season (early Feb 2014) and my boyfriend & I had the main pool to ourselves throughout the entire stay. Bali Khama has the best service staff. All their staff greeted us whenever we passed them by, and they were very friendly and always eager to help. They were fluent in English too, which I really appreciate. As I planned to have a surprise candlelight dinner during my stay, the receptionist even exercised discretion and kept the surprise from my boyfriend. Needless to say, the dinner was fantastic, setup was excellent, service was prompt, and two of their staff even sang a birthday song :) We even had a good laugh together when they struggled to light the candle due to the strong winds. Service is truly impeccable.

There are many restaurants across the road from the hotel, so we had many choices. Food there is cheaper than the resort. ATM/money changer is approx 7 mins walk away. The traffic is not as heavy as Seminyak and Kuta. Noise pollution is lower too.

Room: Our deluxe room was clean. Maybe I am wrong and don't know any better, but personally I thought that it is a little old. Our bed creaked at every movement and parquet flooring was peeling a little (almost tripped a few times). Also want to highlight that the room does not have a vanity area for vain women (like me) who needs proper lighting & mirror to doll up. An extra mirror in the bedroom + some white light would be great. Didn't have problems with mosquitoes. Towels and bedsheets are stained but I know that they have been washed because of the strong detergent smell. The water from the tap had a pungent smell but it went away after letting the water run for a while.

Breakfast: selection was great! I really liked that they have a hot station. The cook prepared eggs and pancakes for me everyday. I didn't dare to use their table napkins though, because they have been placed overnight and it was a bit damp due to the sea breeze. There were some ants too but that's really normal with the trees and plants.

Pool: Water was clean, but the sides and bottom of the pool may need more cleaning. The algae on the concrete of the side of the pool was a bit slippery and I almost slipped. Can't imagine if it was an elderly or young kid.

Beach: The resort has a private beach, thus there weren't any touting. Many water sports going on approx 300metres down the beach as there is a water sports centre. Not much noise pollution though, or maybe because it's off-peak season. The sand isn't white and soft and the beach was nothing fantastic, but it didn't really matter since we were by the pool facing the sea everyday. I got some sandfly bites after walking on the sand, but my boyfriend didn't get any so I guess I am unlucky.

Overall, it was a great experience and the resort is definitely a place to go back to.

Room Tip: Request for a room further from the main road.

Beautiful place by a lovely beach. So peaceful but plenty of boat activitities close by.The sea was super .Because of the high and low tides iItwas possible to find starfishes and unusual crabs.
Young friendly staff .Definitly a place to come back to.There is,nt a fitness room but a good swimming pool.

Room Tip: Choose a ground level room they are the best

I really do not enjoy writing negative reviews, instead I like to compliment great service. But I have to make an exception with this one.
We stayed at this hotel beginning on October, we were looking for a calm area in Bali. What we never expected was the beach is terrible, very dirty and it had water sports everywhere, for sure was not a calm area. The pool of the hotel was regular nothing great, but it had an strange smell. About the rooms, we had to get staff to come and clean twice a day because of the construction around was creating an unpleasant odor. The staff was friendly, but they couldn't do much. They confirmed that they had a sewer problem. Another suggestion if you are planning to stay here make sure you request to have rooms not near the main entrance or facing the road. It can be very noisy.

wynlaba, Manager at The Bali Khama Beach Resort & Spa, responded to this review, January 28, 2014
Dear Ms. Carolina Ordonez,

Salam…

Warmest greeting from The Bali Khama a beach resort and spa,

Thank you for took time to write your experience during your stay with us, as experience traveler we glad to read your detail review related to our resort products, facilities and services for our improvement.

First of all we apology to found fact that your stay with us are not at your most convenience and less than perfect at The Bali Khama, however we internally trace our guest history data shown that as you mentioned above that you stayed with us October 2012 instead of 2013, please kindly revise your customer review base on your actual stay with us on 2012.

We do realize that during October 2012 we had a major upgrading project in our resort, we have sent the notification to our entire supporting partner and also mentioned on the trip advisor during that time regarding our upgrading progress, the upgrading progress took time for the whole end of year of 2012 and now we are glad to inform you that the upgraded progress brought up a very significant higher quality to our products and services.

For your information Tanjung Benoa area is the centre of the water sport activities in Bali and we do realize for some people the water activities cause disturbance and inconvenience. The Bali Khama with the concept and environment offer their guest with unique and calm atmosphere and will be a perfect place to retreat and relaxation compare to our huge neighboring property.

The water sport activities held outside the floating line about 50 meters from the shore , so there will be plenty of space to all guest who stay at the beach front property location in Tanjung Benoa to enjoy the beach, swimming and sun bathing and other activities during their holiday at tanjung Benoa area.

Once again thank you for sharing your experience and we are highly appreciate for your positive feedback and suggestion to our resort. We are looking forward to welcoming you again in near future to experience the Bali Khama again with us.

Cordially,
Management of The Bali Khama

We stayed in Bali Khama for a week in February. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Hotel staff was very helpful and went all the way to make us feel comfortable. We got good suggestions from them while planning our water sports and hiking activities.
The hotel vicinity has some restaurants and local shops selling artifacts , but if you venture to the main city, you can find far better options for both food and shopping. Bumbu Bali restaurant is nearby and definitely worth a visit if you like spicy food, ask the hotel staff to make reservations for you. I would strongly suggest River rafting and visit to the turtle island. The people of Bali are very hospitable and religious. We witnessed several religious ceremonies throughout our stay and got invited to few of them. Local Bali artists make amazing wood artifacts, but do negotiate well as they do inflate their prices initially.
The beach by the Resort is very quiet by the evening and a good place to share a quit drink ,but it needs some improvements.
Bali is worth visiting and when we do so in future, Bali Khama is where we will crash.

Room Tip: Choose the Pool room, its worth the money.but avoid the one adjacent to the bar, as depending on the...

Lets get the negative out of the way first - on my 2nd day there I slipped on the wet steps leading from the rooms into reception and had to go to hospital. The hotel car took me and I was on crutches for the rest of my stay as I had fractured my big toe. (They have now carpeted the steps and use wet floor notices now). The hotel staff were fabulous, helping me at all times and even provided me with a wheelchair). One of our suitcases did'nt arrive with us however it was delivered to reception 24 hrs later and staff told us this does happen occasionally.

We stayed 15 nights in a double studio suite which had 2 bathrooms with bath, shower, bidet and toilet. There was a microwave, tea & coffee making facilities, in-room safe, TV, sufficient storage space, toothbrush & paste, razor & cream, comb, shampoo & conditioner, body lotion, etc. There is also an international socket provided in the room.

Gardeners worked very hard to keep the grounds looking lovely, swimming pool cleaned each morning, towels provided, it was an olympic sized swimming pool, down steps at one end at 1.3m to the deep end at 1.7m. During all of our time there no more than 6 persons round pool on sunbeds, very quiet and peaceful. There are also sunbeds on the beach. There is also a small children's pool.

Breakfast was self-service with lots of choice, cereals, toast, crepes, fruit juice, jams, pastries, egg station, bacon, sausage, salad & cold meats etc. We did'nt eat at the hotel at night as there are lots of restaurants within walking distance and some even provide transport there and back for you. We did have lunch at the poolside - 20,000 Rp is £1 - prices as follows - caffe latte 35,000, french fries 40,000, pizza 80,000, minestrone soup 60,000 and nicoise and blue tuna salad 60,000 - there is 21% tax to add to these prices. Small bar at pool area serving beer & cocktails. Beer at happy hour was 30,000 + taxes for a large bottle.

Laundry service available which was good and cheap - 7 items 85,000 - less than £5, 11 items cost us 115,000 - less than £6. Delivered fresh and clean next day.

Free wi-fi around hotel, you can even pick it up at the bar across the road, although it kept dropping and you had to put your password in again. You can if you want at the airport buy a simcard with data on for about £8 which works anywhere and lasted me the 2 weeks we were there.

There is no money exchange at the hotel but plenty of outlets nearby outside, some giving better rate for bigger denomination notes ($). Just to let you know it is 25$ US for a visa to enter Bali and 19$US when you leave.

Staff were excellent, nothing too much trouble, couldn't fault them.

Despite my accident enjoyed our stay and would go back. Might have been nice if the manager had acknowledged this and paid me a visit.

We stayed in the pool villa and it was a pleasant experience overall. Having travelled from India we reached the hotel around 1pm and were told that the room was not ready however we didnt mind as we wanted to get some lunch - as much as the property looked wonderful, we were surprised that the Restaurant didnt have any food. There seemed to be only one restaurant on that strip that did, anyway the Hotel staff ordered in a taxi and when we returned we were taken to the pool villa.
The villa itself was very nicely done up and the staff was courteous.
We stayed there for almost a week and the stay was very good. The only downside was with the service in the hotel particularly at breakfast - the menu could do with some variety and the food quality was average. What was surprising was that we were offered Darjeeling tea bags on the first two days and then were told they had run out of the same and they didnt have stock for the whole week (very surprising).
The hotel was clean, the rooms were great and staff was courteous and the beach was good too - if the restaurant and breakfast menu can be worked on then I believe it would be a surefire winner.

So we chose to stay at thier beach side cottage with a private pool. Totally worth it. great staff. The best i have encountered ever. Food is average but this is one of the best properties we stayed in. A little pricey but the cottages are stunning with breathtaking views of the sea. It gets very breezy in the night and it's hell lot of fun.
