“Lovely hotel, lovely vacation we would return”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

We stayed at the Grand Mirage myself, my husband and 2children (under 4). The hotel is an older hotel but clean and well maintained. The room we had was spacious for the 4 of us - deluxe sea view room that was on the ground floor. We had two bed a king for us and a single for the kids.
Breakfast was great and although busy we always got a table and didn't have to wait for anything. Lots of choice and the staff were very attentive.
We went all inclusive and it was very good value. Had the choice of 4 restaurants and also had the option to go to the themed evenings- which we did twice- agains these were very good and food excellent.
Included in the all inclusive are beach massages, jet ski rides, speedboat rides as well as food and drink.
The swimming pool was lovely and we never had any problems finding a sun lounger. The hotel wasn't noisy and we found it relaxing!
The kids went to the kids club on two occasions and really enjoyed it.
Downsides: minibar didn't get restocked everyday and we had to ask for it to be done. Towels weren't changed every day either. There is a lull between 10-11 where it is difficult to get a drink and food - bit problematic with two kids who like snacks at that time.
We would return to the grand mirage - the hotel was everything we wanted and we had a lovely holiday!

Dear valued guests,

Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
Though Grand Mirage has stood up for more than twenty years, we are still committing to develop the service and other aspects. We provide various items of food to cater our guests’ taste.
To learn that your kids enjoying our kids club is an honor for me.
If you are planning the next visit, you can join our water aerobics which is conducted every day in our pool.
Thank you for staying with Grand Mirage, and I cannot wait to welcome you again!

Must say that the staff are very friendly always saying hello. Scored this hotel through a deal and was very happy with the value.

The service was great, and the hotel provided a plentiful amount of towels all the time- so we never had to ask for anything.

Beds were comfy and facilities were great. Overall the hotel was a little worn but still a good 'family' atmosphere- would most likely come back as a family.

Beautiful beach- and pool although the water was probably a few degrees too warm! Our flight was at midnight so we ended up paying 1/2 day more and checking out late but we could leave our bags till later so that service became quite handy for us.

There isn't much to see in this area though, just a few shops and eateries but better to travel a little outside of Tanjung area.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

We stayed here for 3 days, March, 2013. The facilities are lovely, but I would not return for the following reasons:
1) The resort is too noisy: from our beachview room, we could hear loud music and festivities outside every night which ended around 10:30. Noisy sea-doos and motorboats buzzed around the waterfront all day.
2) Too crowded: Breakfast is a loud affair. Husband and I did not want to stick around after eating, too noisy to read!
3) Not enough lounge chairs. Ridiculous policy allows people to "reserve" chairs by putting a towel on it first thing in the morning.
4) Beach nice for walking, but weather too hot for walking! 30C at 9 am: much too hot for our Canadian bodies!
5) Hotel lobby and facilities are not air-conditioned. Only relief from heat is to retreat to your room.
I think this place would be ideal for young families, but it was not suitable for us (2 adults with 2 adult children). I would rather be at a quieter place with a more Balinese flavour: this resort could have been anywhere in the world! The breakfast was outstanding and we were happy to find out that it was included in the price.

Room Tip: Ocean view room is nice but noisy at night.

Dear valued guest,

I deeply regret to have failed meeting your expectations of the holiday.

Your feedback has been shared within our team. We are engaging on improving our service

Regarding your comment on noise, we regret for it. On your next stay please do not hesitate to let our team knows about it, so that we could allocate you in another rooms

In regards to your comment for reserved long chairs, I have shared this comment to the departments concerned.

In response to your hot weather, as we know, Bali is a tropical island which is hotter than Canada. In addition, our lobby is a semi open air, so we could not install AC on the site.

I am delighted to learn that our breakfast has indulged your palate.

Your opinion is greatly appreciated. I do apologize for all the inconvenience caused. Personally, I would invite you to give us another try.

Best Regards,
Juan Antonio Sanchez, General Manager at Grand Mirage Resort and Thalasso Bali

2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

We stayed as a family of four and were given two single beds (had to request a rollaway!) after we had booked a room with king bed and rollaway. Had an ocean facing deluxe room with a beautiful view, but if you travel with family, this room is far too small. Towels were not restocked daily, and if they were, it was at strange hours (9pm one night). Had to queue for breakfast every morning, as there was never enough tables. People claimed sunbeds with towels, and we didn't see these people for hours! We stayed a week and got sunbeds on ONE occasion only, while most of the sunbeds were vacant with towels ALL DAY! Food in restaurants and room service is expensive and average. On a positive note, the location is nice and quiet, with lots of massage places and a few shops. Restaurants on the main stretch are lovely with excellent food and prices. We struggled to find enough to do every day but Grand Mirage is good if you just want to hang out by the pool. (though the swim up bar seemed to be closed a lot during the day when we stayed). After staying at the Patra in Tuban, the Grand Mirage was very disappointing and is more a 3 star resort and is tired and in need of a revamp. Stay closer to Nusa Dua, the resorts seem more modern and the beach is nicer

Room Tip: Ocean facing deluxe rooms are lovely for couples. Don't stay in these with a family, too small.

In response to your comment on towels restocking and the beds, I deeply apologize for it. I have reviewed this comment with the departments concerned to ensure this issue is not happening again.

In regards to the sun beds with towels, I would like to inform you that we have in place a policy which allows our pool attendants to remove pool towels from unoccupied sun beds for more than 30 minutes

We stayed at the Grand Mirage in October 2012. We were disappointed that it didn't live up to our expectations. The negative aspects were: beds were too hard, pool closed too early, food & drink at the resort was expensive, housekeeping came before 8am to clean the room and we had to wait sometimes up until 9pm for twels etc. On a positive note all staff were extremely friendly & helpful, the driver we used was awesome and the restuarant across the road was fantastic. Very unlikely we would return again.

Dear valued guest,

I deeply regret for not meeting your standards. I would check the bed to make sure that our guests get the most comfortable bed. Our pool is closed at 8 pm as we are thinking about our guests’ safety to swim in the evening- as the pool lights are dim. In response to your comment on housekeeping, we have noted it and reviewed it with the department concerned.

I really hope that you are coming back to Grand Mirage again to feel the warmth of our hospitality.

The grand Mirage is a nice clean hotel that caters for all ages. The pool is a good size and there is heaps of chairs around but you still have to be quick because people put there towels there first thing in the morning. The beach is nice but we never got to use it as the weather was not good when we where there in February.Breakfast had everything you could want and plenty of seats. Over all i thought the Grand Mirage was nice but Nusa Dua is a bit to quiet for me.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

My finance and i have just returned from a week long stay at the grand mirage. We stayed in a romantic ocean view on the 4th floor (4438) on the all inclusive package. The hotel itself was great - yes it is a little dated but it is well maintained and clean. I was a bit skeptical of our trip after reading some of the negative reviews on trip advisor however i have to stay we didn't experience any of those issues. Unfortunately our airport transfer wasn't waiting for us when we arrived (they had mixed up our arrival time for the AM when we were arriving in the PM) - however i called the hotel they said to just get a taxi which they paid for without issue so we werent too fussed. The check in process was easy - our room was ready - it was cool, clean and as expected (air con worked well). There are plenty of English TV channels to watch, the bathroom was clean and well equipped. The bed was Huge - and not 2 singles pushed together like some reviews state. Yes there is a bit of noise if you are in an ocean view however it all wraps up at 10:30 so unless you have kids or are early/light sleepers you wont have any issues.

All of the staff were lovely. Always saying hello, smiling and willing to help. Their levels of English varied but was always enough to be understood and get what we wanted. The grounds are well maintained and there are plenty of sunbeds (yes the best ones are taken early in the morning but that is the case all around the world). The resort has the nicest beach on the strip by far (yes it does look a little poor at low tide but i don't blame the hotel for not being able to control the moons gravitational pull).

Breakfast was great - had a nice variety and was ample to keep us going. The other meals were also nice. - room services especially had some great dishes. Yes some of the prices are a bit high (eg $12US for a scotch and coke, $8US for a large beer, $35US for the buffet dinner with show) - in short if your planning to spend most of your time in the hotel go the all inclusive package as it is worth the money. The spa is overpriced especially considering you can get an hour massage across the street for $5.50US. However the beach massage is good value @ $30US for the hour (has a nice ambiance about it).

The pool and pool bar was fantastic - we were in there everyday. Yes most of the pool is reasonably deep (1.8 or 2.2m) but at least this opens it up for adults to enjoy. There are a lot of kids around which didn't bother us but might not be the best for honeymooners. (there is a kids club that is open most of the day to occupy them if need be). The hotel was well placed for us as it was in a quite location and we werent too interested in the nightlife of Kuta and alike although a taxi there is about $10AUD each way.

The hotel provide a shower room for guests to use after they have checked out for an hour which is fantastic, we had a late flight so this was a great addition for us. (free of charge)

Some Tips for travelers and hotel management too i suppose:
- Chopsticks restaurant (in the sister hotel, included for all inclusive guests) is below average, they a limited selection for Grand mirage guests - 3-4 items we wanted to order were "unavailable on the day" - they only serve Bingtan as an alcoholic beverage - ie no wine, other beers, spirits or anything. When i asked for fried rice instead of steamed i was told i would have to pay extra!? Just not good enough.
- The exchange rate at the hotel is poor to be nice - You can easily achieve 5% better outside. (just be weary where you exchange). Note to the hotel the AUD is stronger than the USD and has been for a long time. Eg exchange yesterday (USD 9450, AUD 9200)? joke.
- The chauffeur service offered by the hotel is dear - We paid 550,000RP for 6 hours where as outside of the hotel you can have a chauffeur and a guide for a whole day for less than that.
- The bell staff need to be more proactive in the advice they are giving - Eg we booked a chauffeur for most of day last Wednesday and told them we wanted to go shopping - they didn't mention to us that due to the new year (silent day) almost all of the shops would be closed - thus essentially we wasted the entire day.
- The staff that walk around the hotel late at night need to keep their voices down - i think they don't realize 1, how loud they are speaking and 2, how clearly this can be heard in the rooms. Didn't bother me as i am not a light sleeper but my partner was woken a few times due to this.

Make sure you tip - like a lot of cultures they rely heavily on tips - even if its 5 or 10,000RP it helps. We tipped everyone - every time and were looked after accordingly.

All in all - had a fantastic time and will be back.

Cheers

Room Tip: Defiantly go an ocean view room.

Dear valued guest,

I really appreciate your feedback. Please accept my apology for the airport transfer. I have reviewed the feedback with the department concerned.

Our resort has stood up more than twenty years, but we never forget to make sure that this property still meets five- star standards

It is a great pleasure for me to hear that our staff is helpful and friendly.

Thank you for the compliment on our food. As a world class hotel, Grand Mirage always maintains the quality standard of the food and beverages. I agree with you that all inclusive package is worth the money. There are various kinds of food and beverages included in the all inclusive menu which I am sure that it would indulge your taste buds. The spa rate is higher than outside spa as there are several standards that we should meet as a five-star hotel, e.g. high quality of the tools used, and staff experience.

It is great to learn that you love our pool. We offer several activities in our pool such as volleyball water polo. You could enjoy it in your next visit.

In response to your comment on Chopstick food, I would investigate this problem. Fried rice is a bit more expensive than steamed rice since we apply special spices to it.

I have noted the details of your concern and I would investigate them all. I do apologize for the inconvenience caused during your stay. Thank you for your feedback and tips. Those are much appreciated.

Best Regards,
Juan Antonio Sanchez, General Manager at Grand Mirage Resort and Thalasso Bali
