“Greattttttt!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2009

I just got back from the best holidays I have ever had. My friend and myself decided to go to Tobago to have a little break from our wild life back in UK.As good Spanish, that we are, we never planned anything in advance so we arrived there with no accommodation at all. Don´t ask me how but we ended up in Tobago Island Suites. We have to thank every single person that works in the guest house for being so kind and helpful with the two of us. We can blame them in some way because they participated in the fact that we completely fell in love with the island and that we can´t stop thinking about going back.
Rooms were CLEAN and nice. You will never pass reception without getting a BIG SMILE or a hi. Management the most HELPFUL I have ever seen in my life (and I travel a lot, more than 15 trips per year all over the world due to my job). The garden and swimming pool are at a very GOOD CARE too and of course I am not going to forget to talk about The bar and restaurant HARLEQUIN were you can taste THE BEST CHICKEN in town!!!

I forgot to say that location is good too! by Buccoo Junction. Quiet place and close to many amenities, bars and beach.

I would like to send via this review a big thank you to all the staff for making our stay one of the most unforgetable! Thanks for making us feel we were home, we will not forget you!

Big love from Spain,

María

The most dirty place we ever stayed at! Everything was dirty; kitchensuplies, bathroom, sheets, towels, floor. The sice of the room was not for four persons at all! The night we arrived, we complained to the staff about the bad standard, sice and dirt in the rooms, they did not talk to us for the rest of the holiday (two weeks!).The last week, the hotelmanager come, and he was a very nice and likeable man. But we have resigned, only a few days left of our holiday.
In the nights there was clutter from the Casino. Heavy traffic from the road. Loooooong walks to the beaches. Bad and dirty pool. Bar and restaurant never open (only the day we left).
We made a grand mistake, we did not complaind to the travel agency in Norway or the agent in Tobago. Learn from this :o)
(Don`t travel with Apollo, Norway!)

Tobago is a beautiful island, and I love to come back, but never at this hotel. We travel to Trinidad with the ferry, a nice long day! And I recomend you to stay in the Crown Point area of the island, the lokal people told us the weather where more steady there. Pigeon Point is a very very nice beach!

We stayed at the hotel for two weeks in August 08, and had the best time! The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful; they were always there to assist us and made our stay as comfortable as possible.

The hotel is an easy walk from the beach; just about 8 minutes, which shouldn`t be a problem for everyone less than 1000 kilograms. The beach is beautiful and, like most Tobagian beaches, never crowded.

The rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean, and had all utensils needed to prepare dinner. All the rooms seemed to have chairs and tables on the balcony, even if that hasn`t been prebooked.

The cutest old chinese lady had a restaurant right next to the hotel, which was perfect for late night snacks and soft drinks. She even had a bar!

The hotel is just a few minutes from the Sunday School, an experience we strongly recommend for everyone visiting the island. You can also find a couple of stores and restaurants in the same area.

We believe that the Island Suites is the perfect location for your holiday, and we would love to come back any time!

Very disappointed with this hotel, the doors did not lock well, the place was not clean, the management was not friendly (actually they charged us an extra $100 for a towel that was dirty which they were still using), there was no one to assist you. I would never go back there. Every year I visit Tobago twice and this is by far the worse place I stayed at.

What a disappointment, the air conditioner leaked a beach towel worth of water every day on the floor, the toliet leaked, the pool had big holes in the concrete, the tiles were falling off the side of the pool, the restaurant was only open for breakfast and house keeping was only done every other day. I think shampoo and a hairdryer should be a requirement as well as washrags and handtowels for everyone in the room. But the biggest disappointment was that the beach was farther than a few minutes away. A car was a necessity if you wanted to go to the beach or even be able to eat meals while you were there. These are only a few of the complaints,,,I can say the staff was nice. The hotel did not live up to the write up on the internet.

Three of us (all women) stayed in one apartment and at 2.00 am the first night someone came and tried to breakdown our door. The hotel security could not be contacted and when the police came they said that no hotel security was present. No other patrons of the place came out to help even though the noise of someone banging down the door was too loud to ignore. Luckily the person was not succeeding at breaking down the door and eventually gave up trying to get in. We demanded a full refund and left the following morning.

Most things in the apt were either broken or incompletely built. Our issues with the place were as follows:
- broken cupboard doors,
- towel racks without the bar,
- musty smelling apartment and comfortrers that smelled like they had never been cleaned before,
- A/C that did not adjust,
- lighbulbs missing from 6 light fixtures
- Corridor lights to get to apt not working, so had to walk in the dark to get to apartment.

Out of these only the light bulb issue was addressed by the hotel.

It is unfortunate that these clients choose to discredit the hotel knowing very well that the circumstances mentioned were clearly explained.

This was not any case of any attempt of anyone attempting to break into a room. As explained to the writer, a large group of guests who were staying at the hotel and who made up the majority of guests at the time, were having fun and enjoying themselves and mistakingly ended up knocking on their door a couple of times looking for a friend of theirs.

The group were in fact a group of military personel staying with us and they apologised profusely for the mistake. Despite this the guests demanded Police speak with them and this did happen and the police were satisfied that this was a genuine case and not any attempt to enter a guests room. No mentioned of any security not being present was made by Police to us and is untrue as the hotel has a casino on compound which also has security personnel.

The lack of lights as stated was not due to any problem, but as the writer knew, was deliberate as that night was the Hindu festival of Divali a national holiday in Tobago where we light small clay pots ( like candles ) as part of the celebration , so we had to have dim lighting. The writer thenselves as participated

As stated by the writer, in good faith , the hotel refunded them with much apology. No concern was ever raised about any other issues mentioned.
