First things first. The Pinewood is a HPTDC owned property. Earlier I have reviewed their property in Dharamshala. And the story is no different. A large spacious property with big rooms. I was in one of the two bridal suites; no suites for the groom!! In the name of maintenance, there was a thick layer of dust on the edges of the bed all around, curtains desperately waiting for a wash. The TV was an antique 19" piece, where you can tune in only two channels with clear picture and sound. On rest of the channels, you have to chose sound or picture.
The good thing was the magnificent view of the valley from the balcony of every room.
Staff were extremely courteous, polite and prompt but not competent. The house keeping and the technical persons kept fiddling with the TV for some time but the end result was 'back to square one'. Spacious bathroom, but only two microscopically tiny pieces of soap and the cheapest sachet of shampoo (Re. 1/-). Towels were a shade better than a floor mop.
There was no buffet breakfast neither was there a buffet dinner. Quality of food was below average. The 'dhaba' about 3 minutes away from the hotel offered better food at one third price.
Only if the HPTDC sheds its govt. tag and competes with private business without protection from the govt., each of the HPTDC property will become a paradise on earth.
