First- I totally agree with every excellent previous review..all are accurate..so as not to repeat ALL the details, I'll try to sum up the highlights of our stay. Location: sublime quiet beauty. Do not be put off by "remoteness"- take the fun water taxi and just unwind. Ambiance: Akin to being welcome into a private home, visiting with cool international travelers or opt for a private hammock and book. Beauty surrounds you. We had booked for 2 nights and rebooked for an extra night within 3 hours of landing. Top notch impressive modern kitchen facilities , impeccably maintained, with multiple outdoor, indoor, covered dining areas.Even though we brought food,we LOVED Lynley's cooking so much we signed up for BBQ /Mussel Night, ordered pizza and took away some homemade bread! Check out the ANZAC cookie recipe on their website. Value: rowboats, fishing, kayaks, spa, bush walks from the property. Great place to kayak. But to really treat yourself, sign up for a sail with Phil's Sounds by Sail, whipping about the Sound, handling the lines and wheel, the turquoise water rushing by...was the highlight of our stay. Wished we had the time to do an overnight to really explore the Sounds. Sweet boat. Great staff, relaxed, funny, super hospitable and took the time to pour over maps and give us touring recommendations for the whole of the South Island. Highly recommend a stay at Hopewell if you are touring NZ by campervan...a wonderful chance to feel catered to, spread out and take a breather from driving. We had no trouble driving (winding and narrow, just go slowly) our 7m van to Te Mahia to meet the water taxi and the van was safe during our absence. Don't miss Hopewell, in my opinion, the best way to experience Marlborough Sounds. RM Paul, Jackson, Wyoming
