“Disgusting”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2008

This place is disgusting. We stayed in the Backpackers Croft.
The kitchen has not been cleaned for months. Spider webs, dead insects, dead mice still in mouse traps, dirty plates, holes in concrete floors. Toilets uncleaned, showers dirty. The back yard looks as if it is a dumping ground for the lodges junk.
You share accomodation with the resort staff who treat the place as if their mother will one day come and clean up behind them.
Dirty plates, leftover food that is days old left on the benches, the fridge is a laboratory experiment gone seriously wrong.
Wash up detergent (yes there was some ) in sports drink bottles which is not good for kids when they drink it !
When we complained about the mess the attitude of the staff was to give us a couple of cleaning cloths and sort it out ourselfs.
This place reeks of bad management at the top and staff who dont give a toss for the guests who come to stay.
If you stay here you are truly stupid !!!

Stayed here for one night as we walked along the Queen Charlotte Track.

That the place is up for sale pretty well says it all unfortunately. Clearly this is a place with history, in a beautiful setting with some lovely old buildings... but there's no energy in the staff, the great chef let down by unenthusiastic waiting staff and the whole place let down by the tired and frayed edges going downhill fast whilst the place is on the market. Whoever takes the place over will have their work cut out, both to fight off the competition which is stiff and to rescue the place before it dies completely.

We stayed in one of the cabins, which certainly wasn't good value. An old tired cabin, with just a new cover on the bed wasn't what we were expecting. Clearly that's why they show only the outside of the cabins on their smart website.

Would recommend people to look elswhere for now.
