This May we decided to go back again to Tadoba, a place about 30 Kilometer from Chandrapur and about 170 odd kilometer from Nagpur in Maharashtra. And obviously the purpose was to visit TATR – Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve! Last year we did some survey before making the choice about the place to stay, but this year it was quite simple – called up Mr. Bapat, made the booking and transferred the advance booking amount! Yes, this was our second visit to Royal Tiger Resort and overall we enjoyed our stay in both the occasions!
Location: This is a remote place though well connected by road from Chandrapur (nearest railway station but have limited choice of trains) or Nagpur (nearest Airport and also railway junction). The resort is well located near the Moharli Gate (I think there are 2 other gates to enter TATR) where some other resorts including MTDC are also there! You can reach the entry gate within 2 minutes by car. But this place is truly an Indian village – so please do remember to pack all your stuff before making a visit here!
Resort: The resort is very well maintained. And it always gives us the feeling of openness. Both the times we were there in the peak of Summer while daytime temperature is hovering around 50 deg C. But while within the room you will not feel the heat – the credit goes to air-conditioner which works even during power cuts (this is very common in this place and half of the time they run on DG)! Dining area is not having any air-conditioner but still very pleasant!
The best part of the resort is its well-maintained green lawn which is a nice place to sit out in the evenings after coming back from afternoon safari – watch the sunset while having your evening coffee!
There is small play area (2 see-saw, 2 swings & 1 slide) for the kids – basic yet working! Our daughter used to spend about an hour a day here!
They have newly constructed a fish tank and a water fountain at the corner of the lawn – but they can put better fish there and water should be cleaned more frequently!
They have 4 categories of rooms – Standard, Deluxe, Super Deluxe, Family Room. Rooms are good in size, beds are comfortable, have LCD TV (I know about Deluxe and Super-Deluxe rooms – not too sure about the other type of rooms!!), decent bathrooms with 24 hour hot and cold water (they have fixed solar panels for the geysers). This year they have increased the room rents – rates are little on higher side but considering the cleanliness, food, service etc. it may not pinch you!
Food: They have fixed menu buffet breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. While Breakfast and Lunch are always Vegetarian, but they serve Non-Vegetarian (Chicken only) and Dessert (both limited) on the table for Dinner. Food is local Maharashtrian style - non spicy and non-greasy but very tasty!! We thoroughly enjoyed the food here!! Their cook Shiva did a great job! They also serve morning tea @5:15 am before morning safari and evening tea & Snacks at 6:30 pm after return from afternoon safari. Here they maintain the timing very religiously: breakfast at 10 am after return from morning safari, Lunch between 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm before afternoon safari, Dinner between 8:30 pm – 10:00 pm. Cold Drinks and bottled drinking water are available on order. Food quality is good and reasonably priced (considering all the ingredients/ supplies come from Chandrapur).
Alcohol is not served and not allowed in the resort.
Service: Service is good! Both the owners are personally involved and look after day to day affair. Mr. Dina is available in the resort every day from morning through evening. Manager, Mr. Ravi is efficient and helpful! Other staff are all local and they are very courteous and helpful! A special mention about Mahadev who is available for help!
The best part is the cold towel they provide to everybody after return from every safari – that is so soothing!
Safari: This is the most important part to visit this place! Last year we did it through the resort and we had good experience! This year we did it through someone I know through other sources and it was good as well!! But please plan it well in advance as they issue very limited passes!!
And please do remember, they have closed half of the routes / trails as per Supreme Court ruling – so you will be left with very limited routes to try your luck!!
Summary: I have not stayed in any other resort in Tadoba so cannot compare it with any other place – but considering our experience in last 2 visits here, we would surely stay here if we visit this place again!!
