Thanks to the lovely Rachel for her help when we got lost on way to station and missed our train. We waited in the cosy haven of the hotel bar. We liked the look of the hotel and felt so welcomed that we're planning to return to stay.

We stayed at the Birnam hotel last weekend for a friends wedding. The hotel is a classic Scottish baronial residences do is a fantastic building for a hotel. The building is tired and in need of some investment to take it up a level. It's clean, warm and the rooms are of a good size but as you look around you see areas where a restoration would be hugely beneficial. Then there's the lift.....
However that's all it's possible to criticise, from the manager down the staff are friendly, welcoming, open and damn hardworking. They leave nothing to chance in ensuring you have the best stay you possibly can. The food in the main hotel and the small inn next door is excellent and well presented.

We were there for a the wedding if some friends and the atmosphere was superb. The hotel and its staff helped ensure It was a pleasure to stay there. I hope we get back again some day

We had our wedding and reception here on October 18th 2014. We could not ask for a better venue. Family friendly and all ages were made extremely welcome. A cosy scottish hotel with a couthie touch. Felt like home and the staff were second to none! Food brilliant! Hospitality brilliant! All our guests could not speak more highly of this hotel, especially the ones with young children. The relaxed atmosphere made the parents feel relaxed and able to let their " hair down". James is an excellent manager and will work with you as a member of the wedding party, this was a team effort, and between us , I think we created the perfect day! So my thanks goes to you james for that! Also jamie, Margaret, young waitress ( can't remember name right now, apologies) . Chefs, bar staff, room cleaners, in fact, all at the hotel, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making our wedding day so special. Highly recommend this venue for a family wedding. Pete and Wilma Linklater

Room Tip: The family suit is excellent also the four poster room.

Just spent the night in Room 202 (family room). The bathroom had no washhand basin (it was in the 2nd bedroom that was joined the the main), there was exposed plasterboard around the toilet and there was mould on the sealer in the shower. The rooms were generally very tired. The level of cleanliness was very poor. We arrived at night and the lighting in the room meant we did not notice until much of the issues until next morning. There was significant amounts of dust on top of the wardrobe and arounfpd all the skirtings and windows. Worst of all was behind the Double bed which was literally thick with dust.
Breakfast was very disappointing. The self service part was ok but the porridge was very strange. We arrived for breakfast at 09:05 and it was relatively quiet. However, after 20 minutes we had to ask for tea and then waited another 5 min before our cooked breakfast order was taken. We then left at 09:50 without any sign of our breakfast. Other tables were being served but it seemed the waitress new these people personally.
On checking out, the manager agreed to waive the bill but when I offered to take him through the issues with the room he did not seem very interested.
A very disappointing stay.

Stayed at the Birnam Hotel in Dunkeld last weekend. The hotel is a wonderful old building with some fantastic architecture. The bedrooms were very large, very clean and our very comfortable.
Some of the areas in the hotel were a little worn but it is obvious there has been a lot of refurbishment. The bar area and dinging room were very modern.
The staff were very helpfull, friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
Breakfast was excellent cooked to perfection and very hot, not left in hot plates to help yourself.

Dunkeld is a beautiful place with lovely walks along the river.

We will return to bith Dunkeld & The Birnam Hotel.

WE are continually upgrading areas within the hotel alas some of this is never seen by the hotel guests, however we are planning some more room refurbishments over the coming months.

We do hope that you will return sometime soon

We stayed here at the weekend as part of a vintage vehicle road run and from start to finish the staff could not have been more helpful. We obviously had additional parking needs and the hotel were very accommodating and sorted this all out for us. We dined in the hotel and then drank in the bar in the hotel and the bar next door and couldn't fault there service.

We struggle to find places to accommodate our needs and everyone in the group commented that we could do with more places like the Birnam Hotel.

Stayed in room 205 last weekend. The room was very out dated, lacked a good clean and the bathroom was in quite a bad state of repair- with exposed facing, mould, dust, cracked tiles and no threshold bar with exposed floorboards between room. The chap at reception lacked customer service skills and was rather rude and sarcastic when we arrived to check in early despite arranging this in advance. Having arrived for breakfast at 8.55, it was 9.25 before we even got coffee and everything just seemed like a general inconvenience to the breakfast waitress, who did not promote customer service. It certainly was not worth the £90 we paid to stay the night and I wouldn't stay here again.
