“Perfect Pennan Retreat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

I have wanted to visit pretty Pennan Village since I first watched the beautifully whimsical cult film; 'Local Hero.'
After almost 30years of antipodean anticipation I was not disappointed.
Pennan Village is picture perfect, and 'Driftwood Cottage' is the loveliest imaginable place to stay.
Driftwood Cottage comprises the bottom half of a pretty oceanfront stone cottage. There is a narrow roadway between the cottage and the sea, but there are hardly any cars, and certainly no noise.
On the sea-side of the cottage there is a lovely garden that is set-up with table and chairs for guests to enjoy the ocean views from.
Our hostess, Sue, could not have been more helpful or welcoming. Every one of Sue's dining, and local attraction, recommendations was spot on, and greatly contributed to our enjoyment of the region.
Our room was beautifully and thoughtfully decorated; the four-poster bed was luxurious and supportive, the linens were the highest quality, and the bath towels impossibly soft! Sue says it is because she line-dries them to fluff them up.
The bathroom was spotlessly clean, the bath tub generous, and the shower had good water pressure.
I loved that we had free fast WiFi; even in a stone cottage nestled into the bottom of a steep headland!
The generous breakfast was self-serve 'in -room,' which was great, as we could potter about munching on fruit and croissants and yoghurts and stay relaxed that little bit longer. The coffee was the best.
Driftwood Cottage was wonderful.

Room Tip: The Four-Poster Bed room is lovely.

We stayed at the B&B. Very scenic and romantic little village in the tiny strip of land between rocks and sea.
Bedroom and breakfast room (the owner's drawing room) with beautiful views on the sea and just the sounds of sea waves and gulls. Tastefully furnished, comfortable, with a very nice owner and two little dogs, very clean, very good breakfast and a jacuzzi bath. The only downside: curtains not enough covering and letting much light in. Very much suggested, I'd like to be back!

We stayed 2 nights at this lovely B&B and wish we could have stayed longer. Sue, the owner could not have been more welcoming; the room was immaculate, breakfast delicious and nothing was too much trouble.
The village of Pennan was so peaceful and everyone we met very friendly, it really was a get away from it all destination.
We did a lot during our short stay but intend to visit again and enjoy the peace and tranquility and definitely stay at the Driftwood. Thanks Sue.

Recently stayed at Driftwood in the B & B owned by Sue as well as the holiday cottage. Our room was perfect with four poster bed, jacuzzi bath and perfect views of the sea literally on your doorstep. Had a lovely breakfast in the upstairs lounge which also has spectacular views. Driftwood is one of those rare finds, beautifully designed in a perfect spot with a welcoming and warm owner. Pennan itself is lovely and food in the Pennan Inn was excellent. Would definately return for a longer stay.

Room Tip: The downstairs room as you go into the B & B is perfect.

Beautiful, immaculately clean cottage in a beautiful, peaceful place. Friendly welcome from Sue the owner, delicious dinner in the local Pennan Inn..what a great short break! I only wish we could have stayed longer. It's my idea of heaven to lie in bed at night and be lulled to sea by the sound of waves breaking and the shingle whooshing up and down the beach. Highly recommended!
