I have wanted to visit pretty Pennan Village since I first watched the beautifully whimsical cult film; 'Local Hero.'
After almost 30years of antipodean anticipation I was not disappointed.
Pennan Village is picture perfect, and 'Driftwood Cottage' is the loveliest imaginable place to stay.
Driftwood Cottage comprises the bottom half of a pretty oceanfront stone cottage. There is a narrow roadway between the cottage and the sea, but there are hardly any cars, and certainly no noise.
On the sea-side of the cottage there is a lovely garden that is set-up with table and chairs for guests to enjoy the ocean views from.
Our hostess, Sue, could not have been more helpful or welcoming. Every one of Sue's dining, and local attraction, recommendations was spot on, and greatly contributed to our enjoyment of the region.
Our room was beautifully and thoughtfully decorated; the four-poster bed was luxurious and supportive, the linens were the highest quality, and the bath towels impossibly soft! Sue says it is because she line-dries them to fluff them up.
The bathroom was spotlessly clean, the bath tub generous, and the shower had good water pressure.
I loved that we had free fast WiFi; even in a stone cottage nestled into the bottom of a steep headland!
The generous breakfast was self-serve 'in -room,' which was great, as we could potter about munching on fruit and croissants and yoghurts and stay relaxed that little bit longer. The coffee was the best.
Driftwood Cottage was wonderful.
