“New Year Celebrations at "The Horn"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

Have recently returned from The Horn of Plenty having spent 3 nights over the New Year period. On this occasion, my wife and I were in a Garden House room where it was both warm, comfortable and affording views over the walled garden and Tamar Valley beyond. I'm fast running out of positive superlatives about this place but suffice to say, the food gets better each time we visit. During this stay, apart from the usual greetings from the friendly and professional staff, we enjoyed a chilled bottle of champagne in our room on arrival. Creams teas were served in the Drawing Room on each of the 3 days we were there. There was an excellent 3 course dinner on Sunday, 30th Dec followed and topped by a Champagne reception and Gourmet 6 course dinner on New Year's Eve. It did not end there! New Year's Day brought a 5 course tasting menu with delightful matching wines. These meals on top of the customary excellent Horn of Plenty breakfasts. The food is always a delight and Scot's menus, artistry continue to amaze us. Such is the standard of this Hotel/Restaurant that people who stayed this year have already muted that they will be back next. Surely this is an accolade of the highest degree. Book now to avoid disappointment!!

Room Tip: All rooms, regardless of being in the Main House or Garden House are comfortble, warm and clean. The...

Arriving at the Horn of Plenty is like spending a few days in a country house
with hospitable friends who have a great chef and lovely, comfortable rooms with
views. The staff are friendly and always greet you with a smile. Nothing is too
much trouble for them and any requests are dealt with speedily and efficiently.
The dining room is elegant with beautiful views over the lovely gardens and the
Tamar Valley. The food is absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. A
wonderful place to stay at Christmas or any time of the year!

Lovely Georgian house with sympathetic modern decor. Service is always with a smile and nothing is too much trouble. Food is the highlight with imaginative flavour combinations executed just right every time. Rooms are comfortable, well-appointed and maintained to a high standard.
A blissful Christmas!

First I must say how excellent the staff were. Helpful and knowledgeable without being pretentious. We visited to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were impresssed by the setting and the lovely dining room and personalised menu. Sadly the rooms didn't really come up to scratch. They are in need of updating - even the outdoor rooms which had a few nicks and marks here and there and are beginning to show their age. There was no trouble in changing our room which obviously had a drain problem that day and room we were given was more spacious and airy in the main house. Misses a 4 score because of the decor of the bedrooms although the Xmas decorations were lovely as is decor of public rooms. Still more of a restaurant with rooms rather than an hotel I would say! Massage fabulous!

Room Tip: Garden rooms smaller and darker whilst rooms in main building appeared larger.

Exceptional service, wonderful food and a lovely warm welcome. We had a clean and well appointed room overlooking the gardens and valley.
Food was amazing, every mouthful was savoured, even when we had a minor flaw with a starter the chef gave us a free drink each and a free course too.
I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone and will go back for another celebration.

Room Tip: Look out for special deals and rates such as their Sunday night deal or the three day deal.

Just had lovely mid-week break at this small Hotel and Restaurant. This is our third stay, and despite changing hands two years ago, the place is still an absolutely treat. Warm and friendly in beautiful setting. We were very lucky to be upgraded one of the larger rooms!! Very pretty and features on the website as the lilac room.
The food and service is always impeccable.
Hoping to go back next year for another romantic night away.
Thank you to all the staff.

Me and my partner (aged 28) stayed at the horn of plenty for one evening and had the most lovely time. We took advantage of the hotels Sunday saver deal and we felt we had excellent value for money. We were offered a warm greeting and showed to our beautiful room. Everything was spotless and the room was very cosy and relaxing.

We had dinner booked for 8pm and decided on the taster menu which we would highly recommend. The food was amazing! Course after course was delicious and so beautifully presented. The service was unrushed and the staff couldn't of been more helpful. We were not able to finish all our wine at the table so the staff very kindly let up take the remainder of the bottle up to our room where we enjoyed the last couple glasses in the huge and very comfy bed!

The only thing I did mention to the staff was about bringing back the wine tasting menu alongside the taster menu. I came to the horn of plenty just for dinner about 5 years ago and as a wine lover I really enjoyed the different wines with my meal which unfortunately isn't currently offered on the menu. It wasn't a problem at all though as we enjoyed a whole bottle of our favourite wine instead.

Breakfast in the morning was served up until 10am so gave us chance to have a luxurious lie in. We ate our breakfast in the restaurant over looking the rolling hills, the views from the hotel really are breathtaking. There was a wide choice of food on the breakfast menu and once again everything we had was delicious and so beautiful presented.

We had the most amazing short stay at the hotel and will most definatly be returning in the future.
