We were on a ten day trip to Secretes St. James, Mo Bay, Jamaica. Booked a the excursion 4 days in advance from the travel agent in the vending area on the Wild Orchid side of the resort. The excursion was booked for two couples at $76 per person and it included the following.
Transfer pick-up from the resort to the loading area for your safety gear in a van. The trip is 50 minutes there up hill. And 40 minutes return down hill. The trip should take 20min, along windy roads only 1.5 lanes wide with shearing sides, cut into the mountain side with a river 250+ meters down on one side, but the roads closest to the Zipline adventures base site were riddled with countless pot holes the size of a coffee table, so this required the driver to travel at parking lot speeds weaving back and forth to avoid the craters. It calls for an great ride, if you are easily car sick..plan accordingly. It was a unique experience driving through true mountain side villages and seeing Jamaican cattle grazing in the jungle along the road side.
Once you arrive at the base site we were offered restroom use and access to the snack bar. We were eager to get started. Our tour group consisted of 6 tourist and 2 guides. We were suited up in safety gear that including seat and harness, helmet, and a built-in safety back-up trolley system that you are required to carry with you.
We all boarded an eight wheeled military style vehicle called "Buggy". Hold on tight the trip up the rest of the mountain is ripping through the jungle along 3 meter deep mud ruts. NO GUARDRAILS!!! The excursion when extreme when the Buggy was pulling itself up a 45 degree slope when it slid sideways out of control in the mud towards the cliffs edge. Insane, I definitely had a flash of panic hit me.
Once to the top of the mountain where were given and additional safety briefing. We hiked a short distance to each zip line lunching site. The zip lines are progressively longer. There is no requirement to hold on to the zip handles. The guides performed stunts as they followed along with us and encouraged us to imitate them. We were flipping up side down, backwards, and hanging by our legs. it was so much fun. The views while soaring in the air are breathtaking. While traveling on "Big Timba" the longest line you soar through the deepest ravine over a river and jungle.
The guides stopped twice while hiking and ziplining through high humidity and heat in-land. Once was to take pics standing cliff side and in the giant couples tree. The second break was at hut hill side. There was a cooler of water, paper cups. The guides cut up fresh pineapple, guava, coconut. Fresh coconut jelly was served, with coconut water. Tasted great and provided a boost of energy.
We traveled over an "Indiana Jones" bridge. and then pick-up in the middle of the jungle by the buggy. Traveled a new crazy ride back to the base camp. My wife took pics while riding the lines and I took video. They even allowed me to wear a backpack with a chest strap the whole time.
It is customary to tip the tour guides and the driver of the buggy, the adventure team will remind you at the end of the trip.
I feel the trip was worth it. We really enjoyed ourselves. It has become memorable.
