“Lovely food, friendly staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

We stopped here on our way to the jazz festival in Derry for an early bird. There was a good selection of dishes on the menu, I had a liver parfait with rhubard compote followed by fish and chips. Both were delicious. My friend had an excellent tomato soup and a fresh fish dish with roasted vegetables, also very good. The service was friendly and efficient and the price reasonable. We left the car here and took a cab into town which saved the hassle of trying to park during a busy weekend in town. Definitely worth stopping here.

Dear North West Lulu,

Many thanks for visiting us over the bank holiday weekend. The Jazz festival is one of the best times to visit Derry. handy too that its only a 10 min drive and as little as £5 in a taxi into Derry City Centre.
We are delighted you enjoyed our early bird menu and nice to see our fresh fish featuring on your choices. The early bird is a perfect value menu, only €12 main courses & €5 starters/desserts and still include all our famous fresh fish & home grown vegetables. Thanks too for the mention of our service and we hope to see you again soon. We currently run the early bird menu all night from Sunday-Thursdays and until 7pm on Fridays and until 6pm on Saturdays. Hope to see you again.

Dear clair p

There is no getting away from it. Some people prefer chain restaurants. Predictable food, branded, defrosted and reheated. Rather than trying to be as good as a chain restaurant we are trying to do something TOTALLY different. We source and cook everything from this area and are very proud to do so. We experiment with all sorts of fish and seafood and we mix classics with new dishes all the time. We traditionally dry age all our steaks. We grow more vegetable varieties ourselves than any farmer in the north west of Ireland.

In this part of the world we are balancing the tastes of locals while still allowing ourselves to be a little more adventurous than other restaurants. We support the local economy more than any other restaurant around because we don't use much imported / frozen / tinned goods common in many restaurants and faceless hotel chains.
Without knowing any specifics of what you thought was just "ok" doesn't really allow us to make any constructive changes. I am dismayed at the comment on our staff as I usually only deal with praise for their commitment, professionalism and friendliness. You would be welcome to give us any further constructive feedback to info@harrys.ie.
Thank you for visiting.

“Always special!”

Another lovely meal. Great friendly staff & superb food! Local veg & fish is the best. Also recommend the Donegal Rapeseed Oil from their stall. Looking forward to returning soon!

Dear Doherty4,

Its great to see a review from someone who is obviously a regular and appreciates our food offering and staff. Our fish and veg are amazing! we are proud to have added so much vegetables from our own gardens as the freshness and taste cannot be achieved by anything we have ever bought in through the usually imported supply chain! Similarly, all those types of fish that were previously exported or even unused have become some of the most popular dishes on our menus!
Please keep coming back and spreading the word, and make yourself known the next time you are in the restaurant. makes it all the more interesting for us!
Many, many thanks. Customers like yourself make all the effort worth it.

“Standards are slipping”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

Stopped here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch - main, two & three course carvery options were available at a reasonable price. We ordered & our starters were promptly delivered - prompt I feel because there was very little on the plate. I had ordered the seafood salad - three salad leaves accompanied by three teaspoonfuls of a medley of seafood mashed together is not what I consider to be a salad. My husbands goat's cheese & seasoned ham fared no better, though I noted that he had gotten more salad than me. We then proceeded to wait 25 minutes for our main course. When it did arrive at the table it was of a moderate portion size with a reasonable amount of accompanying vegetables & mash. Sadly, my pork was over-flavoured while my husbands beef was bland & uninteresting. Given the wait we had endured for our main we decided not to order dessert - what I seen going to other tables made me think that the attitude applied to the size of the starters was also applied to the sweet.
We left, still hungry & extremely disappointed with the standard of what was once one of Donegal's best restuarants. We won't be back.

Dear Northern Highlights,

Firstly thank you for stopping with us on Sunday for our lunch menu. It doesn't matter that we grow our own salads and vegetables and use only local fish & special meats from local farmers if you are going to be disappointed with the end product. We are always reviewing portion sizes and balancing hungrier customers versus an enormous amount of food that is unfinished & dumped. Especially when we are allowing for menus that people typically go for three courses.
We pride ourselves on a good Sunday Lunch that thankfully delights most of the time. Both the Pork (an organic tamworth pork leg) and the shoulder of beef were cooked overnight at a low temperature for around 14 hours which usually gives a great flavour. We would love if you would consider giving us another chance. As we enter summer a range of salads and vegetables from our gardens increase and we will have some of the tastiest in Ireland.

“Fantastic Friday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

Called to Harry's lastnight to sample the 'No-Menu' dining experience. The No Menu' consists of 5 courses and it is left to the diners discretion if they wish to be told in advance what tonights courses will be. We decided to go into it blind... not reading the menu... and were delighted with each course as it came out. The quality of ingredients, taste, presentation and service were fantastic. Garden salad with purple sprouting broccoli, Sourdough bread with duck pate, John Dory, beautifully aged Inishowen steak and finished with an amazing lemon tart... This is a real food experience. It is also a great way of experiencing new flavours of things you wouldn' usually order... well worth the trip!

Dear bluebus!

Thrilled to read your review and so happy you decided to go "blind" into our #NoMenu Friday night treat! As you state, it's a great way to enjoy some of the dishes from this region and some things that you might not pick from our normal menus. We are proud of our local "Made In Inishowen" produce and #NoMenu always promises to use the freshest fish that has been landed and the freshest harvest from our own walled garden and whatever else is local and seasonal that week. It's fantastic value as well. Keep spreading the word and hopefully we will see you back for this menu again soon.
