“Great stay at Avoca”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

When we arrived there it wasn't fully booked. We could choose out of different accommodations for the same rate. We got a river cabin, very beautifull. We liked it so much that we've decided to stay another night. Also Addo is a great place to stay, go to the Cheetah Breeding Camp and Addo Elephant Park.

The owners of Avoca are really friendly and helpfull, and still expanding there accommodations....

Such a lovely setting! We stayed in "Unlce Townie's" bungalow, with gorgeous views over the Sundays River and out to the Zuurberg Mountains. The food was home cooked and delicious, and served in the beautiful main house. We loved the walk each morning in the crisp SA winter's air, from the bungalow through the orange groves and past the resident dassie to a hearty breakfast. The owners and manager were superb and seemed really keen to ensure that our stay was faultless. We would return like a shot!

Good luck in finding such a beautiful setting so close to Addo Elephant Park at such great value. Booked at the last minute for the tree houses, unfortunately these were fully booked, but we were offered a great alternative - one of the river cottages. We were pleasantly surprised with the beautiful setting - large green lawn, great play area for kids and even canoes for the energetic! We took a long walk through the rows of orange and lemon trees - even picked up a few lemons for tea. Great positive is the close proximity to the Addo Elephant Park and the very affordable rates - hope they keep it like this. The only negative is that the neighbors on the other side of the river had a party from early afternoon to early morning - with loud music blaring away. We chose to ignore this and enjoy the beauty around us!

We stayed for one night in one of the 'mud huts' on the river side and the second night in the 'b&b' shared house at the top of the hill. Both nights were unique, extremely comfortable and we had all we needed for a top nights stay. Dave and Judy were very helpful and their farm is absolutely beautiful. Would recommend this to anyone....

One of the best places we found in SA. Nice rooms and cottages on the riverside on a beautiful farm area. The owners are very lovely, sharing their house (internet) and swimming-pool with their guests and they are very helpful and friendly as well. One can swim in the river or try a kanu for free and relax in the gardens, surrounded by beautiful flowers. It´s only about a 20 min. to Addo. A very recommented spot to stay in this area!!

Room Tip: The rooms are all good!

We stayed for two nights at the end of our trip to SA. Wish we had booked for longer. A variety of accommodation is on offer. We stayed in a riverside lodge with thatched roof. All equipment is available to self cater including BBQ.We had breakfast with Judy an Dave who are very friendly and helpful. Very convienient for Addo.

this is the perfect place to stay and relax. Beatifully set on the banks of the Sundays river is absolutely quite and just wonderful. We stayed at a log cabin, bathroom is in the cabin and it also has a great balcony. Two cabins share an outside kitchen area, a huge braai area and a wonderul sitting area overlooking the river. The Kitschen area is fully equipped with all you need, just add the wood, the steak, the beer and/or wine and you are set for a perfect evening. Breakfast is server at the main house, also beatifully set overlooking the river. I've seldom stayed in such a nice and quite place. It was supposed to be just for a night and ended up adding a day just to relax and enjoy. And it's only ten minutes away from Addo National Park and far better vaule for your money. If you are visiting the park, don't stay inside, drive the ten minutes to Avoca and you'll have a wonderful evening/night there!
Enjoy. I will certainly stay there again should I be in the area.

Room Tip: take a log cabin - they are great !
