We had the most amazing time at Addo Dung Beetle and will definitely be going back on our next trip to South Africa. We stayed in one of the bush cabins and it was a fantastic experience! Rod and Magna were great hosts and couldn't have looked after us better... You would be crazy not to stay with these guys...

If you want to go on a Safari do it with Rod, his vast amount of knowledge and experience makes him a superb tour guide.

I dont usually write a letter unless I am very happy or very dissatisfied.
In this case we where very happy!
Rod and Magda made us feel very welcome even though we accidentally showed up a day early.
The rooms are absoloutely beautiful, and the attention to details was second to none.
Make sure to go with Rod on some of his tours that he operates with Geared to go, as he is very knowledgeable and well connected to the local area.
Thanks for reading!
Guy

We stayed for one night, in one of their bush cabins, and both my partner and I absolutely loved it. The cabins are in the middle of scrub forest, and the only thing you can hear are birds. The shower and toilet are outdoors - and having a shower in the morning with trees, sky and (very) inquisitive birds around you is something else. You need to bring your own food (or I guess you could buy some from the main lodge, don't know) but having a barbeque and a few beers on our own that evening just added the cherry. Rod and Magna were very accomodating, chatty and friendly hosts and we had a delicious breakfast the next morning before heading off. Highly recommend you try this place - particularly the bush cabin! When we're next in Addo, we'll certainly be back.

My only regret is it has taken me three months to write this review. We (a group of five) spent our last two nights of a three week Namibia & South African vacation here. I must confess, when we found it and first drove up the drive - taking into account it is situated on a working citrus farm - we weren't so sure about our choice. Well nothing could have pleased us more and in fact, we didn't want to leave. Magda & Rob are the hosts with the most! This beautiful energetic couple worked tirelessly to ensure our every whim was met.

They themselves put in long days, from preparing breakfasts to the most amazing home-cooked but restaurant quality meals for dinner, and a drinks service a 5-star hotel couldn't match! We even felt a bit guilty as they ran around after us while we sat lapping it all up. The chalets are lovely, large and decorated in that unique African style, with lovely bathrooms and even an outdoor shower if you so desire! They also have very unique self-catering chalets with outdoor loos and showers - very interesting and rather novel for those who like that kind of thing. The Dung Beetle is truly set in magnificent, peaceful surroundings.

We spent two nights in Addo Elephant Reserve, but it is just as easy to stay at the Dung Beetle, as it is very close to Addo, and drive to and from the park. We drove the 'back road' to Kirkwood twice, once to see the pretty little citrus town as well as partaking of the most reasonably priced but enormous lunch at The Hilltop Restaurant there, and again to visit the Daniell Cheetah breeding project. Get the directions using the back roads - quicker and far more interesting! (Yes, safe, too).

Don't hesitate to consider staying at the Dung Beetle - I mean you have to just because of the name!! And don't just stay for one night. You will be disappointed then!

The last three nights of our holiday we spent at this friendly location with nice views. Magna gave us a warm welcome. We stayed in a big chalet. Everything was clean. Breakfast and diner was oke.
One day we went to a cheetah breeding and one day we went with Rod to the Addo Elephant N.P. Rod has much experience with animals and also gives much information. He also gave us a presentation of the dung beetle. Very interesting.
Magna and Rod are proffesinal working people without losing th needs of their customers out of sigt.

We stayed for 2 nights at Addo Dung Beetle Guest Farm from February 1, 2011 and were the only guests at that time. Magna and Rod really sploiled us with breakfast, pre-dinner drinks and a wonderful braai. Magna also made a delicious boboti and we really enjoyed the pleasant dinner near the fire place together with the both of them and some nice wine. Rod took us on a trip through the citrus farm and to Addo Elephant Park. When we were in the middle of a big herd of elephants and one of them came straight at us in the car, we were quite happy that Rod knew what to do. He is also very knowledgeable about all the other animals and the flora, which was highly interesting.
We hope they will take care of the two 'dassies', which happened to be on 'board' of our car driving from Tsitsikamma as stowaways. They will be an enrichment of the fauna in Addo, we believe. Whenever we come to this part of the world again, we shall certainly come back to this place.
