“Great surf”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

The walk down to the beach is spectacular. Great surf. Walk further down the beach by the rocks to have a beach to yourself.

“What a view !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2012

This is less popular than it's better known cousin Amado and I didn't see any surfers at all but for ordinary beach lovers like me it was heaven. From the main road the car would take you to the hilll top right next to the long board-walk and steps all the way down. Then you'll cross the warm knee- deep water of the river with little fish darting to reach the actual beach. The view from the hill top with the Atlantic surf rolling in just glorious. The sand was fine and stretched endlessly. We went on a June afternoon and there were about 20 people in the whole beach. There is a beach bar with limited options. The waves are big and swimming not advisable unless you are a strong swimmer. The water was cold in June. Be prepared to encounter some Nudists if you are prudish but there is always plenty of space for everyone.
If you want peace and solitude then this is the place to be. The desolate beauty of the less developed West Coast along the natural park is breathtaking.

Amazing view. No crowd
On the downside, if you have kids, it is a bit of a walk between the parking lot and beach, but then, maybe that helps the beach not getting crowded

“Walk and walk and walk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2012

This is the wilder side of Portugal, in a National Park and with several building restrictions, this place is peaceful. After a bit of a clamber down or across to the beach - either way you're going to get a bit wet - you're faced with several miles of beach. It gets more deserted the further you walk, and for a bit of skinny dipping in peace this place is perfect. Oh and the surf isn't bad either.

We stay in a small studio hut just round the corner near O Sitio do Rio restaurant so can walk here everyday. There only one "bar" on the beach, used in its loosest meaning, so pack what you need including shade.
