“Fabulous resort right on the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

We just returned from a wonderful week at Edgewater Resort in Rarotonga. The resort is located right on the beach front and has fantastic views of the sunset, reef and lagoon with good snorkeling out among the fish. Laze the day away with a book on one of the many sun loungers, swim in the pool with the view of the sea right there or enjoy a meal or drink at the restaurant. We were kept entertained by the many activities put on by the friendly activities staff where we learnt how to weave a hat, make a pareu and how to make our own Ika Mata (raw fish). The kids loved the pool and kids club was a great end to our holiday. We were entertained with live music in the restaurant most nights and watched the cultural show which was entertaining. The villa we stayed in was very clean and spacious with a good air conditioning unit to keep it cool. We found the location really handy to going to the market in town or walking to the nearby shop. Would absolutely stay here again. Thanks again for making our holiday so enjoyable.

What more could one want with a lagoon view room. These are very comfortable units and nice and quite.
We had a ground floor unit which was excellent as all was needed to get to the water was to climb over the front divider wall and onto the sand.
Sitting in the deck chairs one could just look out to the lagoon.
In all very good value ,clean rooms, very friendly staff and a good break.
Edgewater Resort is with in walking distance of several good eating places, also has its own resturant and bar right beside the swimming pool. A very nice setting.
Breakfast each morning more than enough to choose from to satisfy the hunger pains, and fresh each day.
Staff more than happy to organize any tours that you would like booked.
The Island bus service calls into the Resort on its rounds of the Island.
More than happy to stay there again.

Room Tip: Ground floor in the lagoon units easier to get to the water, if you are a water baby.

Better than I expected, thought it's not well set up for business travelers. The wi-fi is quite limited; there is a hotspot in the restaurant/bar area (not always ideal for working) and it reaches to some rooms in the vicinity. I could get it in my room but there was no suitable chair/desk arrangement. The room itself was clean and reasonably well-appointed, though the air conditioning unit was very loud and the mattress bizarrely lumpy. The restaurant fare is decidedly average - I suppose the blandness caters to families and the general tourist. Snorkelling gear is provided free, and there is an excellent games room (table tennis, pool, chess etc).

Room Tip: If you want wi-fi in your room, you need to be close to the restaurant (though you then get the nois...

As an unpretentious family the accommodation was good value for money.

The garden superior room was clean, spacious and we did not require extra bells and whistles. The towels and bedding were changed regularly (the daily beach towels were also very convenient).

The activity hut had snorkels, flippers, beach shoes. Adult (and older child) activities included weaving, making sarongs, ukulele lessons, drum lessons, coconut activities.

The kids club was excellent with same activities plus making calendars, crab races, trampoline, movies in the 7-9pm session. There were also plenty of resources if children wanted to self-direct their own activities.

The snorkelling on-site in the lagoon was excellent with fish feeding to encourage the fish to get up close. We spoke to another family who had stayed at Muri beach and they said Edgewater snorkelling was far superior

The food was generally good quality and reasonably priced. The only thing to mar it slightly was on nights when there was a buffet or a large wedding it was a bit cold and overdone.

The children's menu was a bit limited and my 6 yr old ate from the adult menu at around $20 meal rather than $9. At the end of the week when we settled up we had a $100 room credit instead of our son eating free as the bill breakdown was not explicit and for us the $100 discount was better value. However if you had more than one child the children eating free would be more cost effective. I don't know if lunches counted in this but we took supplies and did not need to buy lunch.

Drinks at the bar were expensive but that was only to be expected.

Staff were friendly and service was good.

We only ventured out on the bus around the island on market day and this was fun. Our boy was more than happy to spend every hour in the pool which was clean with a lovely slide and lots of varied pool toys.

Our 6 yr old boy attended the kids club on about 5 occasions for approximately 1.5 - 2 hrs and that gave us a well deserved break from the swimming pool! He enjoyed the club and in the future we would definitely choose a hotel that has a club (for us it would be a priority).

We didn't look around other rooms in the Edgewater or any other hotel on the island so don't know how it compares but we had an excellent experience.

The Virgin air flight times worked out very well despite being depart Auckland 7pm arrive Raro 12.30am and on the return trip left Raro 1.45am arrive Auckland 4.30am. I would not hesitate to fly the same hours again.

Room Tip: We booked a garden superior room

No!! Our first trip to the cook islands. We paid to be Upgraded to a beachfront room but it was Average at best, outdated decor and staff were pretty laid back. Dining at other resorts was cheaper and so were the drinks and so was their service (Rarotongan, Little Polynesian). The mattresses in the rooms are bad, need serious updating/upgrading. On our last day at the resort, we had paid for a late checkout but the room did not even get serviced, no fresh towels no nothing, is this standard practice. There were plenty of small ants just about everywhere. Would certainly not be going back anytime soon.

Room Tip: Don't book here, choose another resort

Just back from holiday on the weekend... Was very sad to leave. Would definitely recommend The Edgewater...we have a beachfront deluxe room... Was fantastic, thought we would splash out as it was my 30th...already planning next trip back. However cocktails were on the expensive side... I had better quality for lesser money at another resort...new staff at the rental place let us down a couple of times... Never the less we didn't let this dampen our trip. Love the location and scenery of the Edgewater... Will be booking in with then again when we return... Recommend the Night Life Tour, "Bob" and Pete were laugh... Cheers boys... Got engaged whilst in Raro so who knows might be back for the wedding... :)

Well where do I start from…..very warm greeting when we arrived at 2am even got an escort to our rooms on those golf carts. Continental Breakfast was beautiful each morning a lot of ranges to choose from, my favourite was the mitiaro omelette which I ordered every morning. The rooms was worth the money I paid nice lagoon view watch the sunset each evening lovely view. Nice to see they had daily activities that tourist/families can participate in. The only activity I participated in was the one at the bar lol. I didn't eat dinner there I was always out with the locals meeting new people having dinner somewhere else so I can not judge on that, but I believe it would have tasted beautiful. Love that the rental for scooters & cars are located there. I really enjoyed my first time in Rarotonga & staying at Edgewater. If your looking for a place too relax & relieve the mind this is the place to be.

Thank you Edgewater for your hospitality.

I have only one advice for you guys get some disco lights in that party bus lol!!!

See you guys in September 2013 hopefully my annual gets approved.
