My wife and I have just returned (October 2012) from two weeks at the Edgewater resort and spa in Rarotonga, Cook Islands, all I can say is to quote Douglas Macarthur "We will be back".
We loved it. The staff were extremely friendly, polite and patient ( they were trying to teach me the local language).
The beachview deluxe room was well appointed and very comfortable, as with previous reviews, I do agree that the place could do with a lick of paint, however that did not detract from the cleanliness of the room.
The meals were fresh and delicious. There is an abundance of fresh seafood so if like me you are a seafood lover you will be in heaven (try the Ika mata it will knock your socks off).
Buffet Breakfast is included and consists of cereal, toast, fesh fruit, juices, tea and coffee and muffins- we found it hearty and filling.
The snorkeling (ten meters from our room) was amazing, the sea is warm like a hot bath and you just don't want to get out. There is a small swimming pool at the resort (which we never used ) for those that just want laze around the pool.
The resort itself is well maintained and every morning two groundsman raked the sand on the beach (while I watched from the comfort of my balcony) overlooking the beach.
The sunsets from our room were amazing and we were fortunate enough to see a whale splashing arroud just outside the reef.
The best meals that we have ever eaten were at the Spaghetti House (one of the two restaurants at the resort). The girls from the Spaghetti House were absolutely gorgeous both in looks and personality, Essie and the girls made us feel so special and welcome. They were so genuine and friendly that we quickly became friends and we will miss them most of all.We have only been back home (for two days and we already miss them). If the management is reading this I would like you to acknowledge the effort that the girls make and realise that they are a big part of the reason why we are already planning to return (hopefully early next year).
You must try the affagatto (at the Spaghetti House) it was sensational, mind you everything on the menu is magnificient, I should know I had worked my way through it.Hi Esse and the girls we miss you and we will see you all again soon.
Overall, the Cook Islands are beautiful, the people are beautiful, the weather is amazing and the food is delicious.
The snorkeling and the beaches are out of this world.
Whilst you are there you must go to the markets (held every saturday morning) and try a cool nu (I hope I have spelt that correctly) fresh coconut with a straw in it - refreshing. Also whilst at the market try the waffles and ice cream absolutely delicious. Seek out Chontal (at the markets) she makes the most amazing table runners - she is around the back towards town, and she loves a chat - Hi Chontal.
Aitutaki is a must as well you will be delighted by the beautiful beaches and the snorkeling is among the best in the world.
A special mention should also be made to the Captain Tama lagoon cruise crew, who put on one of the most entertaining and funny shows that we have seen. Take the tour it is well worth it, the staff are hilarious and were aptly named Captain Cook and Jimmy Barnes. The Pareau (sarong) tying show that they put on will make you wet your pants with laughter.
We have told all of our friends about the Cook islands and they are keen to come with us on our next trip. Highly recommend if there is a heaven on earth then this is clearly it.
Absolutely loved it.
