We were very excited to see that a Tapas place had opened at the Crown Beach resort. Overall the concept is great and the small dishes work well with the casual Island environment.
We ate there twice and the service both times was very good. However, we both thought that the menu needed a bit of work. The variety of dishes was pretty limited for a tapas restaurant and probably half of the options are deep fried - not something you would expect of a tapas restaurant. We had the chicken tenderloins on the first night and they were amazing, but when we ordered the same dish a couple nights later and tasted more like Chinese sweet and sour chicken than some sort of Spanish tapas - very disappointing.
The dessert menu was also disappointing - choice of chocolate, carrot or banana cake - nothing remotely tapas-esque about the dessert offering.
We think this place has got great potential, but the menu needs a bit of inspiration - even just by reviewing the menus online of some tapas places in Auckland or Sydney. So good to see a resort trying to do something different.
They also need to make more of the beautiful lounge area - the outside garden area was a bit more downmarket and we didn't even realize there was a lounge until we were leaving on our second visit!
