Every one of the 13 times we have been to Raro we have been to the Shipwreck Bar. The previous owner was a charismatic fellow from Hawaii and his "sea captain" appearance and colorful personality was perfect for the place. The setting, cocktails and staff were wonderful even if the food menu a bit average.
We went back this time and it "met" the new owners, who some reviewers here have lauded. Sorry i cant agree. The place was empty, void of the colorful locals who always seemed to frequent the bar and add to the atmosphere. The new owners were not welcoming at all, in fact the woman totally ignored me as i stood at the bar about 2 feet from her. Even one of the lovely staff observing from a distance rolled her eyes at the snub, knowing i was a "regular".
We were not tempted to stay and eat there, even though it was BBQ night which is traditionally a lot of fun. The bar food menu had not been updated, something it desperately needs.
This place is an institution on the Rock, so i hope the new owners learn a bit more about the basics of "hospitality" - as it would be very very sad to see it sink.
