I remember the first day arriving to Isla Ometepe - it was magical at first sight. Men and my traveling friend at that time Kirsten and I - had a couple of nights in other places than Zopilote before taking the small travel to this beautiful place. And luckily we experienced some other parts of the Island before arriving here. Because we were stuck. Stucked in a very beautiful and home-free place.
At Zopilote you have all you need and a little bit more... I spend some nights in a dormitory in a beautiful builded house. The details and the land of Zopilote is very beautiful and they do really put an honor into their work and into their eco-farming. You have the opportunity to learn a lot there.
I had most of my nights in a hammock house - where we slept up til 6-7 people in hammocks - and it was amazing. I loved it.
El zopilote has a mirador-tower - with an spectacular view. I slept many nights up there underneath moon and stars - give yourself at least one night up there and experience the magic.
You can work at Zopilote as a guest living there. It is 4 hours a day, and you really get to experience how they create and "a small part" of all the jobs and responsibilities there lies in having a farm like that.
Once a week at Zopilote. It is pizza night. Locals and other travelers or people around come to this night and it is very special. Very amazing pizza and so cosy sitting outside at tables and benches underneath a big beautiful tree... It is dark as the darkest night. Stars of a million above. Warm, music. Hulahoops - firespinning if you are there those nights.
When we arrived we were welcomed so friendly, and you can really live there a long time. Very cheap. Very life-luxured. Very loved. And very beautiful.
Climb the madeira vulcan, go for a swim in lago de nicaragua, ride horses around the Island and enjoy the Island life. Meet other warm travelers that chooses Zopilote. Spend time having a pot-lock with 20 new travel-friends at the Zopilote cozy kitchen. Get to know all the little tracks at Zopilote ground. And live a part of your life in an eco-enviroment created by very caring people.
Zopilote makes their own peanut butter, jam, yogurt, bread, chocolate and more... Organico :-) And you can be a part of making it.
The Italian people: I met some on my way, and they do have a special attitude. Fell in love for a while with one too... But the owners at Zopilote are Italian, self-independent and have a lot to do and do meet a lot of people. Don't be afraid of Bruno or Christiano... Ask them, go to them - love their land.
El Zopilote - travel there if you are in Nigaragua. And, go to Nigaragua for sure, if you are in central america.
