“Wonderful Setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Located just a ten minute walk from town, this hospedaje is set off the road, amidst a lovely green area, with a huge veranda which serves as a social point for the guests. Very good breakfasts, large clean rooms, excellent wi-fi which can stream movies. An excellent value as well.

We stayed here for 4 nights in the private room with shared bathroom. Room was good, large with a fan. Breakfast was included and was fruit bowl with toast and egg and you could upgrade with ham as well. It is located just a few minutes from Moyagalpa and has a huge garden with hammocks and is also windy and good for relaxing. The owners make dinner every night that you can join if you like and the beers and coca cola are in the fridge you can take it and write it down your bill. So, a good place to stay on ometepe!

We were referred to this wonderful accommodation while staying on Big Corn Island. After a full day of travel, via taxi to a 12 seater plane, to a bus, to another bus, to a taxi, to a boat, we were welcomed at Soma and instantly liked the large, clean rooms. The common meal area is airy, pleasant, and carries a good vibe. All of the grounds are lovely and well cared for. Zkinny was a great host and employs the best staff. His referral to our Concepcion guides, Louis and Javier was well-founded. Our time on Ometepe was thoroughly enjoyable and I would make Soma my home base for a stay on this island again in a second. Thank you!

We stayed in a cabin here and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Our cabin was clean and well maintained. We were a close walk to town. The gardens are beautiful at Soma, and we would not have been able to enjoy gardens if we stayed right in town. We liked the honor system for water and beer, so we could get our own beverages whenever we needed one and note the purchase on our tab.

Hospedaje Soma is probably the best place to stay in central Moyogalpa. It's less than a 15 minute walk from the ferry, so you don't have to worry about transportation. It's clean, the rooms are very spacious and simple, the staff is very laid-back and friendly, and it's a little bit away from the main road, so it's quieter than nearby options. Zkini can help you plan activities, and the local guide that works with him, Javier, offers all kinds of excellent tours and activities. They are both very knowledgeable and were patient while answering all my questions! They have a few bikes to rent, and they are the best quality you can find on the island. Zkini and his staff offer family-style dinner every night. You can reserve your spot by the afternoon, then enjoy delicious food that is healthier and more interesting than most of the nearby food options (German sausage with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes, vegetarian curry, it changes) with new friends. The night I joined for dinner, there were 10 friendly people, and we had a great time together. The rooms are a bit more expensive than nearby options, unless you can get the 4-bedroom dorm for $8 a bed! Moyogalpa is not my favorite place on Isla Ometepe, but if you decide to stay in town for a few nights, I recommend Hospedaje Soma.

Room Tip: The rooms and cabins are very spacious and comfortable, although they are a bit more expensive. If y...

This place was amazing! Beyond our expectations! We stayed here three nights in a private room (very clean, comfortable bed and ceiling fan) and shared a bathroom with a couple next door. Shower was decent, the water wasn't too cold and was refreshing after a day around the island! Zkini was a great host and we had a family dinner ( a couple dollars per person) with all the guests the second night we stayed and his cooking was delicious! We should have eaten with him every night but wanted to try out some of the local food at other restaurants. He keeps a fridge stocked with ice cold beer and a bar that guests can help the, selves too and write down what they take...Awesome! The hostel is beautiful with an open lawn area, hammocks and plants everywhere! The place is secure with a night guard and Zkini's cool dog. Breakfast was included for our private room and was delicious with fresh fruit, eggs, toast and coffee. They offer juice and extras for a few dollars more, very reasonably priced! There is a tour guide who works there that can help set up volcano hikes and offer information about the island to go along with some books about Nicaragua. Definitely THE place to stay on the island, although its tucked down the street (nice and quiet area where you can here the howler monkeys!) best way to travel the island is by bike/scooter/moto bike so although its away from the attractions, you're going to need a bike which isan amazing way to see everything, highly recommended! What a magical place!

Everything about Zkini's place is great, from the very, very clean and well decorated rooms to the home cooked food he prepares most, if not every night. We chose this due to the previous reviews and they did not let us down! The location is quiet and still only 10 mins walk to the center of town, the wireless Internet was smoking which was great as my wife had to work a couple of days, and Javier the recommended guide was the icing on the cake for us.
Thanks Zkini, and we hope to see you in Granada in the next couple weeks...

Room Tip: We had one of the private bath rooms and it was great
