“Super soft bed and great bathroom”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

I stayed on a Thursday evening in July £85.00 B&B for single occupancy. The hotel is easy to find with parking right outside.
The bed and pillows were soft and beautiful white cotton sheets. An excellent night's sleep.
Good size clean bathroom with a raindrops shower. I recommend room 2.

Room Tip: Room 2 was at the front but the road is quiet in the evening/night.

Friendly welcome , unique and spotless rooms. Lovely view over the river with swans running up and down. well equipped room with the usual plus iron and board. free good quality wifi.
my room rate included £30 towards my meal which allowed me to dine like a king. Washed down with a pint of Adnams. Breakfast cooked to order - a lesson the big chains could learn from.

We stayed one night recently and had a great stay. We chose it because it was recommended by Alister Sawday as a great place to stay with dogs. The room was absolutely fine (room6), great view now problem, even with two dogs (1 big, 1 small). But, there were no dog treats or sausages for the dogs for breakfast, so disappointed they were not as dog friendly as we hoped. However, the food was fantastic, could not fault it, brilliant chef! So go for the food!

Room Tip: Had a peek at room 1 when the cleaners were in looked big, with a sofa and a great view of the estua...

Excellent two night stay with a large group of friends. The Thorn is tastefully decorated with generous sized bedrooms and bathrooms. From the outside the building does not look like it would contain the number of rooms that it does. Whilst our room did not benefit from a view over the estuary it was large and very comfortable. We had a look in some of the other rooms and they all looked a similarly high standard. The food was excellent, the choice was wide and the dishes well presented and served in good time considering we were a large group. The staff were all friendly and helpful giving the Thorn a sense of relaxed quality. This is a charming part of the country which needs more exploring, so hope to return to the Thorn again soon.

We stayed here for one night and had a fabulous time. The room was of a generous size (2 adults, 1 child and 2 dogs were accommodated easily), the view was great and it was lovely and warm. Fab bathroom as well and everything was sparkling clean.

The service was great and we had some excellent food here - both at dinner and at breakfast the next morning. They have a wonderful kitchen/cookery shop as well which is dangerous to go into as they have some lovely and very useful things....as well as an excellent wine shop (try the Gavi).

The only odd thing was that although as a dog friendly place to stay they provided a sausage for each dog at breakfast, we were asked not to give it to the dog in the restaurant. Similarly, we were allowed the dogs with us while we ate but were told we might have to move if people objected (maybe these are H&S or legal regulations?). It all worked out fine though (and I suspect people don't complain often) but it did seem a bit strange. NB - we had a young puppy whom we didn't want to leave in the room on its own!

However, this did not affect the stay at all - it was a lovely place and we would definitely visit again. The food and the room really were first class and there are wonderful walks to be had nearby as you leave the hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed in the room that looked out over the estuary and was, therefore, on the road side, but we...

Had a superb evening at the Thorn on Friday 7th March. Warm welcome, very comfortable room, lovely views (we were in room 1). Great beer, excellent food for both dinner & breakfast. Faultless! Looking forward to visiting again soon and sampling yet more that the Thorn has to offer!

Wow - what a fantastic weekend. Back for a third time but this time filling the hotel with 22 people - easy now there are 11 rooms. The hotel itself is fantastic - wonderfully decorated, excellent attention to detail and very classy. The food was fantastic - you expect it would be as it is owned by a chef but it really does surpass expectations. We were a large group and Sherri, Danielle and her staff handled everything brilliantly - we had our own dining room and all food was superb and on time, as were the breakfasts which is no mean feat when dealing with large numbers. Will be coming back again - AND dog-friendly which makes it just about PERFECT!
