“comfortable place and good people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

A lovely hotel made of several big and comfortable bungalows. The bungalows are always very hot, but it also compensates the fact that there's not hot water (which is, anyway, the average condition for Senegal's hotels). There's also a quite big swimming pool and some places where to relax, inside the hotel and among the bungalows. The swiss couple that runs this hotel (Barbara and Bruno) is very kind and always available for the guests' needs. They speak very good french (of course), german and italian (maybe also english, I don't know). Definitively, it's a very comfortable and cozy place. Just few little problems that are, anyway, tolerable: there are a lot of mosquitos, and he little street that leeds to the hotel is full of people who always want to sell their stuff, and they can get really silly (senegalese style, after all): after a little, that became boring.

This must be one of my favourite locations where I'd stayed during my Senegal holiday. The hotel is located some distance down a sand road away from the main street of N'dangane. This means you need to walk a few hundred meters on a road consisting of loose sand to arrive. At night this road is very dark, especially if the power fails. Come to this, the campement has no generator, so bring a torch.

The huge positive side of Auberge Bouffe is the hospitality of Barbara and Bruno. Especially Barbara is a very friendly and helpful person. After reading Eltoy's review I feel I need to state that Bruno is too, just don't expect a natural born inkeeper.

I would seriously advise reading the information that is on the noticeboards since Barbara and Bruno assume you do. That way you will know, for example, that you need to make reservations for dinner. The reason is very good: Barbara will make you a personal meal made from fresh products bought that same day on the market and you get to taste Bruno's creative ice-creams. If you don't want to hang out for dinner Barbara and Bruno will happily point you to their favourite restaurants in town at any time of day.

Auberge Bouffe was a pleasant place to stay, especially during the warmest hours of the day the garden is a fantastic place to hang out. However, in the evening N'dangane gets plagued by mosquitoes that are impartial to clothing or DEET, staying in the garden at this time of day will have you itching the next morning.

The mosquito net , unlike in many other hotels, has been mended. Unforunately this is compromised because it drapes over a frame rather than being suspended inside it so does not really close around the bed/mattress, still allowing mosquitoes to enter through small gaps.
The quality of the food is good, the breakfast is the standard you come to expect in this price range.

After watching the campsite "L'Auberge Bouffe'' we thought we were going to spend a pleasant stay in N'dangane.
In fact it will not happen. If Barbara is a nice person we can't say the same of her husband Bruno who has completely misunderstood the work or duties of an innkeeper!!
Unpleasant as possible when requesting information or a service, it remains one of the main reasons for our early departure to a better place the tip of Sangomar ..........
Furthermore the rooms are a relative cleanliness (dust and cockroaches are waiting for you).
Finally Ndangane remain as too many places in Africa a place quite dirty. A positive thing, however, a boat trip in the mangrove that will leave fond memories.
So camp to be avoided except when you can not do otherwise, but then one night at most!

Room Tip: they are all at the same level...............

We stayed 2 nights at the Auberge Bouffe in N´dangene. The are 6 rooms in separe bungalows with their patio, they are simple but absolutely spotless (and with hot water!) The restaurant area and the garden (with its pool) are so lovely decorated that you just want to spend there some time to relax and enjoy. The Swiss owners, Barbara and Bruno, are very nice, funny and engaged in the local community. Really good vibes at the Auberge Bouffe!
