“Good food and service”

Just popped in on the off chance for dinner as staying in the area. It was curry night so we decided to give it a try. Lovely friendly staff, nice atmosphere and good value for money. We all had a different curry and some extra side dishes and they were all very good. A most enjoyable meal at a great price.

My sister in law was visiting from Canada and wanted to spend a couple of days on the East coast of Yorkshire. I booked the Downe Arms for one night. There were 4 generations of us, ranging from 74 to 5months old and they managed to cater for all of us. As we needed a cot I phoned them direct and they were happy to match the discounted online price. The rooms were very comfortable and full of character, every one different. The staff were very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble.
The price of drinks was very reasonable as was the meal we booked (it was steak night).

The only downside was that (not suprisingly) there was no lift which could be a problem for some. Also, the local church bells chime on the hour throughout the night.

We had a meal here on Saturday night & we were very disappointed. We were staying at the campsite and thought the pub looked very nice and was very handy. We booked a table for 12. The staff were pleasant but seemed to be run off their feet. Our meals came out and were very well presented but that was really it. Three of us ordered the scampi and chips (which was more like a starter than a main course) and we had practically eaten it before the condiments came out. The food was warm, not hot. We would not frequent this establishment again.

Thank you to you all at the Downe Arms Hotel for a wonderful day and evening for our daughters and son in laws wedding on the 18th August 2012. The meals were very nice and puddings to die for. The staff were excellent, the young girl collecting the glasses singing along as she was doing her job, lovely to hear. The rooms were very comfortable, clean and cosy. Breakfast too was very nice indeed. So well done to you all, would recommend to our friends.

We recently took advantage of the 2 night romantic break package which was brilliant value for money. The Downe Arms itself is lovely, all areas nicely decorated. We had an excellent three course meal on our first night and Tuckers bar was also very good. Our llovely superior room was on the front of the hotel, only problem was the road was very busy so you couldn't have any windows open at night. That and the noisy saniflo toilet are the only drawbacks. Would defo stay again but request a room towards the rear

Room Tip: Rooms round the back would be quieter

We held our full wedding here on 28th July 2012. Jane, Paul & all the staff were absolutely fantastic from the moment we booked 20months in advance. In the 20 months of planning the wedding we had several meetings with Jane, who went the extra mile to help us & accommodate us with everything we required for our special day. When the big day finally arrived the honeymoon suite was made available early so my bride to be could get ready their with the bridesmaids. The room upstairs where we got married was fantastic as was the room down stairs where we had the wedding breakfast...
And that gets me onto the carvery wedding breakfast... with it been quite a large wedding nearly 100 people to serve the food was fantastic i couldn't fault a thing. We have actually had several of our guests comment to us how nice the food was.... And onto the night do... the food again on the night (hot roast sandwiches and roast potatoes) was spot on...

We were lucky enough to have a nice sunny day for the wedding and the main room with it large doors opened out onto the really nice garden/patio area (with plenty of seating) where our guest were able sit and have a drink in the sunshine and deep into the evening.

Another comment from some of our guest was that it was nice to attend a wedding with the rip off prices of wine and beer. The prices here were around normal pub price which made a really nice change.

I would recommend anybody thinking of getting married to at least go and have a look at this place. Jane, Paul & all the Staff really stepped up to mark and made our day a very memorable one.

Thanks
Paul & Gemma

My wife and i used this hotel as a stop over ,we were very surprised to find a hidden gem with great decor and carpets throughout, its run on a "its not a problem sir, with all the staff and owners making sure our stay was short yet excellent, and i dont quite see where some other reviewer found the word "disgusted" it seems unfounded as the food was great and they have a range of lovely decorated rooms,i would stay here again as its within a short distance of the moors, coast and Dalby forest and in easy distance of most attractions also the sunday carvery is a must ,real yorkshire puddings mmmmmm

Room Tip: ask it always might work ! and better rooms cost more money so dont expect shampers on lemonade mon...
