We live in the South of Cyprus and are frequent visitors to the north. We booked this as a quick getaway and I was expecting a lot from the reviews but shouldn't have really given the price. We did have a lovely time and are not usually ones to pick holes but I do think there is room for improvement. To start, when I booked the hotel online, the website's directions didn't work and the map didn't print on the confirmation. So I e-mailed the hotel directly and didn't get a response, which I usually take as a sign of bad service before I have arrived, but I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. Thankfuly, we found the hotel no problem. On arrival there wasn't anybody to check us in, I had to go and find them and when somebody was found they didn't have our booking. They found us a room in the end but it was small, had no balcony, scratchy sheets, used shampoo and the water was cold. There wasn't any info given in the room regarding meal times, bar opening hours, mini bar prices, local area or using the phone and no English TV at all.I can't remember which of these things we were supposed to have or not as the case may be, they just would have made our stay more comfortable. We went out to explore a little and thankfully when we returned the manager was there and he was very apologetic and as charming as other reviews have said, and he answered all our questions! we were sold on the food as I'd read so much online about his wife's cooking and the legendary soup and meatballs. We were so relaxed we couldn't face the drive into Kyrenia only to be robbed by the over inflated prices at the Harbourside restaurants and we were so glad we did! Very reasonable, tradidional, homecooked and some things fresh from the gardens. The hotel gardens are beautiful and were very relaxing but I would also have liked to use the pool more but it was very crowded with young children. I know I can't change that, just an observation! the rose in the room was a nice touch though. And we made do with the brakfast even though I was expecting something more substancial and had read 'homecooked' somewhere but it was mostly continental style, if you wanted anything else I suppose you could have asked but we weren't given a menu or prices. We might go back given the price but I do hope the place tries to retain it's charm without trying too hard, (strategicly placed Maison Francaise mags on rattan furniture do not a chic boutique make!) To summarise, I'm not sure if the Hideaway Club has lowered it's standards since we last went there,I can't understand why this one was so far above it in the top hotels in Kyrenia. we didn't book it this time as the price had gone up so much there but on reflection, we had a better time there than at the Lapida but I wouldn't rule out the Lapida again if it was all we could get and I'd definately have dinner there again.
They do tend to ignore e-mails but the manager speaks great english, maybe try and phone them before...
