“Very great stay at locanda Poggioleone”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

We had one of the best stays in Italy! We felt home from the beginning of our stay. Such a nice family and staff and especially the cook Fernanda who made us 5 star dinners every day and breakfast with great tastes. Umbria is one of the most beautiful parts of Italy and in combination with this locanda, it makes it a stay to remember and is locked in our minds. We wish the family and staff al good wishes for private and business and we hope to come back someday!
With best regards,
Jacqueline and Bob

We just spent one night here and were a little sorry it wasn't for longer. The hotel is new but built in an old rustic style. Once you are in and past the modern front it really is terrific. The grounds surrounding the pool are well kept up with great views of the hills and the lake. The sitting areas in the restaurant area are cozy and comfortable. Breakfast could be improved but that short coming would not put me off returning. Free wi-fi throughout the hotel.

Antique furniture but ultramodern fittings in the bathroom. Absolute quiet except for the village church tolling the hours. Fernanda's superb cooking. The infinity swimming pool. The superb views over the countryside and Lake Trasimeno in the distance. What else to say? Oh yes, the very affordable room rates. Best reserve half pension - it's a deal as long as it lasts.

The website for this hotel is very accurate and what you see there is what you get. The standard of the accommodation is very good with excellent service from the staff. However, be prepared to try out your Italian as they speak very little English. We ate at the hotel most nights. The meals proved to be varied and good value. There was also a good choice of local wines. After dinner coffees and bottled water. were included in the price. The pool area is a real attraction and has beautiful views of Lake Trasimeno. This more than makes up for the fact that the hotel is about 10 mins from Castiglione sul Lago, the nearest lakeside resort. During our stay we were not troubled by any noise from other guests but we did hear cockerels, dogs and the church clock when we tried to sleep with the window open.

  • Liked — Views of the Lake, courteous staff.
  • Disliked — Lack of soft bread or croissants at breakfast.

Unlike the other poster on this website, we found the hotel all that we could ask for--absolute quiet between rooms, occupied on the nights we were there--magnificent views of lake Trasimeno, delightful hosts, wonderful local cooking for hotel guests only. The obviously quite new hotel is built with the finest materials in the old style in great taste. Terrific swimming pool with covered games area. Above all, very reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

The hotel was a little difficult to find at first because it is located at a little strip mall in Pozzuolo. The hotel looked nice and the views were amazing. The room was comfortable. However, at first we were the only people on our floor and it was nice and quiet. Then at midnight, other guests arrived and we heard every single movement. We could hear the woman in the room next to us use the restroom, flush, draw a bath, let the water out and she finally went to be around 2:00am. You could hear every move someone else on the floor made. There is no insulation between the walls (and her restroom was not even next to our walls because we had seen the room earlier in the day). While the food was excellent, the place looked nice and the views were great, if there is anyone else staying at this hotel I would definitely not recommend it because you will hear everything they do.
